  • I’ve been working on getting my vintage SewMor 606 1950s-1960s sewing machine up and running. I found this beauty in a thrift store and it needed some work. This video covers how to thread the machine, adjust stitch length, reverse stitch, and adjust the tension. At the end we talk about the knee pedal and how it differs from a foot pedal.

Just bought a Sewmor 606 at an auction today for $35.00. So excited to use it. Happy to have found your channel. I have a Janome sewing machine that I have been using for several years. It has a knee pedal as an option, but also has a foot pedal.

Sometimes those knee pedals house the foot pedal that can be used on the floor. I just found a Capitol model 777 machine and there is virtually nothing on it. As for the darning feature, it drops the feed dogs which pull your fabric through so you can sew. They are on the face plate, have the teeth. Free motion quilters use the darning setting to do modern quilting on domestic machines as opposed to long-arm machines. I hope you have had some fun sewing.

Thanks for the info! I think the cords are too short to move the pedal down - but I'll keep trying to figure it out. The knee pedal is NOT comfortable at all, and if I ever wear a skirt when sewing I'm afraid it the steel will snag my clothes! You're right, there's nothing on the Capital model - very interesting - share pictures and tag me on IG @saritavpinup if you're on there! The darning makes sense - I didn't know that's what it's called when using the machine. I always thought that darning is what you do to socks to mend them, and I'm not sure what I thought dropped-dogs/free hand quilting was called! Thanks for watching!

Just picked up a Bel Air 990 for $40.00 that is similar to a Sewmor, Federal, Gilbert, Regal, Kaiser, Pink Atlas, Morse and many more brands. I think most of the machine are based on the Singer 301a.

Hi Sarita....i have the 606 sewmor that looks a little older than yours however similar color and with the red accents. I believe yours has little more blue than mine....the only big difference is where it says sewmor by the up and down lever the plate and lettering of the name sewmor is different.......but everything else seems the same. If you want a picture of it I can send it however I don't know how to post the picture in the comments here....i also use a 1940's model 15 singer in mint condition and a Kenmore model 54 from the 60's. Those are the ones I primarily use and I also own a singer 306w, a white rotary sewmaster from the 60's and another kenmore model 17891 from the late seventies and my only machine that does all the types of stitching like Mind, fagoting, stretch, zig zag, forecasting, box, etc...etc... Now you're probably wondering why so many machines....well first off I use them for different purposes and fabrics and the reason why is because I dont like the move settings around too much for the different fabrics and the sewmor will do leather along with my singer model 15...i tinker with re-upholsteing furniture for my woman and my older vehicles and making goofy patches for my jeans that get rips in them.
