Ambassador Maman Sambo Sidikou is currently Special Correspondent for Africa of the Global Fund for Community Engagement and Resilience (GCERF) in Geneva. Since 1976, this Nigerian journalist has held key positions, including Ambassador to the United States (2011-2014), Chief of Staff to the Head of State (1999) and Minister of Foreign Affairs (1997-1999).
From 1999, he worked in international development, joining the World Bank, UNICEF and Save The Children UK in Africa, America and Asia.
From 2014 to 2015, he was Special Representative of the African Union for Somalia and Head of the AMISOM Mission, then Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and Head of MONUSCO in the DRC (2015-2018).
He then became Executive Secretary of the G5 Sahel (2018-2021) and High Representative of the African Union for Mali and the Sahel (2021-2023). In 2024, at the request of ECOWAS, he led an exploratory mission to Togo for the legislative elections.
Commander of the Mauritanian Order of Merit, Mr Sidikou has a background in journalism (Dakar, Paris, Montreal) and political science (Madrid), and holds a doctorate in education from Florida State University.
