- Conflicts in the Middle East: a strategic turning point
"With the exception of the confrontation between Israel and Iran, the strategic and geopolitical realignments in the Middle East are characterised by an appeasement of tensions between Iran and the Gulf monarchies, and by the resulting primacy of economic and demographic issues, by the spectacular breakthrough of Chinese influence in the region, by the return of Russia and the systematic multi-alignment of regional players, by the assertiveness of Iran, which has almost reached the nuclear threshold, by the affirmation of Turkey and India, and by the growing isolation of Israel, which puts the United States in an uncomfortable position. Paradoxically, Europe remains a secondary player in this recomposition, which nevertheless concerns it.
In this context, the war between Israel and Hamas and Hezbollah, with its risk of regional extension, is disrupting these recompositions and restoring the United States to its role as provider of security, while reinforcing its dissuasive posture towards all those who dream of expelling it from the Middle East. This round table will analyse the latest significant evolutions in the region, at a time when the conflict involving Israel is continuing and the US presidential election is approaching, the outcome of which will have a crucial impact on the recompositions underway".
