    This exactly what I was looking for! Someone who can show it instead of all the diagrams. I mean they are important but for someone like me who got a hand down solar system with 3 panels and learn how to connect makes all the difference. Thank you so much! Short video. Straight to the point. Easy to follow. Took me 3 min to hook my 3 panels up after watching this. Wish more people made videos like this.

    This doesn't help anyone without the why. As in, "Why in series" instead of "In parallel" or "in series/parallel". Can't wait for the "How to plug in a lamp" video.

    I have 3 panels at 18.1 amps each short circut current. I want to wire them in parallel as shown Do I need to have 3 20 amp fuses one from each positive wire from the panel plugged into the three to one adapter or one fuse connected to the output of the adapter going to the solar controller?

    Can we connect 6 solar panel in series to sum up voltage and add two more in parallel to increase current. Then we combine both circuit to increase current and voltage both.?

    What if the third panel leads won't reach, can I add extensions to the third panel and is it ok if the third panel wire is longer than the other 2 panels, or do they all need to be the same length?

    • @billyhere9279
      @billyhere9279  2 роки тому

      Check out Amazon for “solar extension cables” they have many different sizes. It’s ok it the lengths are different it won’t affect the overall system.

    I dont know much solar panels but if I have two 100 watts solar panels and I get someone to connect them for me in parallel for usage on my solar generator, after connecting them in parallel will I get a total of 200 watts coming from the sun to charge my solar generator? My solar generator has maximum amp of 8.5. If the amps double after connecting in parallel will this damage my solar generator??

      At 30amps I’d recommend an 8 AWG. 10 AWG will work but your at its limit at 30amp.

      You should check the max series fuse rating on the panel specs, if your total amps of 30 is greater than that ( which it likely is ) you should fuse each panel. Better safe that sorry.

    What are the pros and cons of each configuration?

    • @verohandymike
      @verohandymike 2 роки тому +5

      Complex answer, series increases the voltage but keeps amps the same, parallel increases the amperage but keeps volts the same, so your whole setup needs to be able to handle the way you connect the panels. Sometimes you want the volt increase because your system needs it. For instance you have a 24 volt system and 12 volt panels, connect 2 in series and you get 12+12 = 24. In this example if you have (8) 12 volt panels, you can connect 2 sets of 4 in parallel then connect these two sets in series using the 2-way connector he shows, that will give you 24 volts to your system. But if your system is 12 volts then you want to keep it in parallel so the voltage remains 12, but the amperage increases, so you can only connect as many panels as your charge controller can handle. So you can't buy a cheap charge controller and connect 20-30 panels to it, instant brick. Pros and cons come down to cost vs current loss or efficiency. A 12 volt system is cheap but will lose current over any kind of distance, so they are not good for a farm, but an RV or even a cabin or shed is fine. Go up to 24, 36 or 48 volts and now you can have 20-30 panels out in a yard and wires underground to a house, etc....

    • @billyhere9279
      @billyhere9279  2 роки тому

      From my understanding you’ll end up with 200 watts with 12v. Watch the video for more details ua-cam.com/video/jejro4zkl8I/v-deo.html

    I love this video. How many way connectors do I need to connect eight solar panel?

    • @verohandymike
      @verohandymike 2 роки тому

      When you have as many as 8 panels then you need to connect them series parallel. You connect 4 each in series, then connect those 2 sets in parallel using the 2 way connector which is the first one he shows in the video.

    • @SuperVstech
      @SuperVstech 2 роки тому

      This depends on the wattage of the panels.
      The more you attach in parallel, the higher the amps go.
      If you combine higher than 30A together, the #10 wire in the solar wires will melt.
      For this many parallel connections, you should get a combiner box that has fused inputs, and provisions for larger diameter conductors to feed the high amps to the charge controller.
      If you combine in series, you will have a very high voltage that will fry many charge controllers.
      You could combine he 8 panels 2 at a time in series, then tie the 4 pairs in parallel to keep the amps within the abilities of the adapters, and keep the voltage within the parameters of most charge controllers.
