    Your videos are very helpful to me as I have now become a big fan of Bermuda grass -- I put some down on the north side of my house after I aerated the land and spread some topsoil-sand mixture--it's coming up now. I thank you.

    I just started treating my lawn (almost 1/2 acre) which should be Bermuda grass but is at least 90% weeds, mostly crabgrass. It's gone untreated for years. I bought the BioAdvanced concentrate and the hose end sprayer you recommend. I bought the surfactant and the blue dye which was so useful to let me see where I was spraying and when I ran out of product. It's been hot. I sprayed after 8pm when it was below 85 degrees. After 2 days I can see the crabgrass yellowing and browning out. I will need to retreat because it's so heavy. I started in the back yard in case I messed up but the only issue I see is I didn't cover some areas as well. It's going to be below 85 (that's like a cold spell for July in Western TN) for another 5 days so I plan to treat the front yard next. I have the Anderson's Professional PGF 16:4:8, Super Juice and Urban Farm's Liquid Lawn Fertilizer to help support my Bermuda grass as I kill the weeds. I expect it to take a few seasons and some trial and error on my part but you said in multiple videos I watched don't be afraid to be aggressive. So, I'm finally doing it. Previous services I paid good money for either killed my lawn along with the weeds or seemed to feed the weeds. I figure I can't do any worse! We just had another round of torrential rains and straight line winds. Only a little damage to one tree and a few fence boards - so grateful the power didn't go out as we've had bad storms and power outages twice in the last month. Thanks for all the product advice on your website and channel as well as the how to videos. I think I'm using a combination of several videos you shared but seeing you do it different ways and getting results with all of them gave me the courage to try this myself. Thank you!

      I do this for crabgrass and goosegrass all the time. If you don't get all the root though they're great at regeneration. I have spots where j thought I got all the crabgrass just to see it return in a couple weeks. If you have bermuda you can transplant a bermuda sprig into the patch you remove grassy weeds from to try to cover it up

    The Indian trading Post is extremely interesting to me. When I was a child I lived on an Indian reservation in the trading post. My grandfather and my father to a lesser extent we're both heads of the trading post on Cheyenne Agency South Dakota. It was the Lakota Sioux Indian reservation before white man built a dam and flooded the entire agency. Or to put it a better way and flooded the entire reservation and made everything move. At that point my father got a different job and my grandfather retired.

    Hey Doc, love all your content on everything. I love your neighbor’s property and the history that goes with it. Is this in N Ga by chance? She may have called that small building a corn crib, that’s what my granddaddy called his. The Indians that were in that area if in N Ga would have been the Creek and the Cherokee. I live in NW Ga in Bartow Co and I’m right on the Etowah river and I look for artifacts every time I set foot outside my door. My backyard is full of Flint and Churt rock and I’m talking softball size. The neighbors think I’m cracked out because after every rain I’m out in my backyard with my digging stick looking for arrowheads. I’ve found a couple and I believe they were either going to be jewelry or game pieces. Two perfectly oval slick marble size stones that were right next to each other when I found them! Thanks for the great content and stay cool my friend!

    QUESTION: so I put compost about 3in on top of my dirt now I'm a single person has been raining like crazy and mean and crabgrass is gone crazy after I planted. And I have been pulling it up and I have to reseed anyways cuz not all the grass seed grew. Now my next question is is I have another section that I haven't planted yet because I've been dealing with this section. I'm only one person I work over 50 hours a week and my God there's been so much rain. So now there's a ton of crabgrass in that new area where I had spread out loom. People may wonder why didn't you do the grass all at once while I'm only one person I can only spread straw so fast. Plus I get up so early that watering one section at a time I didn't realize would have been so crazy for me to handle so early in the morning. Anyhow I want to kill that grabbed cross in the next section so like in a few weeks I can plant it. But I don't want to kill the new grass eat so I'm just going to have to pull it unless somebody has suggestions

    Baking Soda works great on Crabgrass and doesnt mess with Bermuda or St Augustine. You just need to apply it to damp grass. Just took out a whole bunch in Houston TX with 100F+ weather. I know it sounds too good to be true but it just works.

I have seen a large snapping turtle on the bank before the geese hatched. I am kind of a wilderness kind of guy but if I need to kill a few snappers to give the gooslings a chance I will. @how to with Doc have you talked about “Bermuda Grass Decline”? You mentioned looking at the lawn guides for brown spot issues. Googling my symptoms of gradual brown spot thinning to bare ground seemed to match the condition of Bermuda Grass Decline. Seems to be a fungal issue. You product link to the BioAdvanced spray bottle for fungus shows on the bottle to spray yard at a 2X rate for this. Just wondering how common this is. In The South with high temperatures and high humidity fungus can be a problem.

    Did u have crabgrass in that area before seeding? I have always had a suspicion that crabgrass seeds come with sod/seed. On a couple of occasions I have noticed that crabgrass shows up after a lawn is laid on areas that previously had no existence of it.

  • @Webmyster
    @Webmyster 11 місяців тому +1

    Hi Doc! Been watching your videos for over 2 years now. I need some advice. Hoping you or some of the other gardening enthusiasts here will reply. I moved into a new property couple of years ago and the back yard had no grass. I started with putting some Bermuda seed down. It was already August (guess too late but I took a chance). The seed germinated but grass never came back out of dormancy so guess it just died. Next year I tried to put down clover with some tall fescue seed. Forget the grass, even clover did not do well. Guess these were signs that there is something wrong with the soil. Then I did soil test, treated the soil with a few things and put sod down. Now this was last year around September so was already late in the season. But grass did good. Went into dormancy and came back out. Now this season I was hoping I will keep treating and get a lush lawn. Thing is that my grass grows but is is not getting thick, I can clearly see soil and there are few problem areas where grass totally disappeared. I thought I had grubs or some other insects, I have seen them me around but not that many. So I did not take a chance of treating because I have 4 dogs and I dont want the puppies to have any issues. I have seen enough of your videos about the granular stuff that dissolves but because my lawn is not that thick and I feel they will still easily walk on top of it.
    So a brief description of what I have done this season. I have used PGF complete twice!. I have used compost made with dirt booster and I have also used PGF balance on some new sod I put down this year on one side of the lawn. I have also used Humichar twice. I did do a soil test beginning of the year and everything looked good except that my iron and manganese came too high. 100.92 and 29.3 respectively. I see weeks when Im like ohh grass is doing good and then it is followed by weeks when Im like ohh what is going on with the grass it is thinning everywhere and new bald patches start to show up. Most of these products guess have iron so was wondering if I already have high iron, so is my soil too toxic and that is what is causing this? One thing in general about my soil. It is that red GA dirt and also when I first started I had to pick out a lot debris (rocks left from construction mostly) I often go out there and use tools in specific areas to see if they hit any rocks underneath and I keep doing this but for the most part the whole area has much better dirt now. Also, my yard gets about 6 hours of sun because of some trees around. Another thing I found is that everytime I dig, the roots dont seem to be more than a few inches tall, so not sure if that is normal or should they be longer at this point. Do you or any one else have any advice for me ? I am happy that I atleast have grass in my garden but as much effort I have put in I feel I should have a much better lawn but it is not happening.
    Appreciate all the videos. Thank you!

    • @HowTowithDoc
      @HowTowithDoc  11 місяців тому +1

      Tough one... but my one catch was the 6 hours of sun. Look for a shade tolerant seed. Aerate, and over seed is my best guess. the areas of our old house that got 4-6 hours of sun never did well.

    • @Webmyster
      @Webmyster 11 місяців тому

      @@HowTowithDoc ahh I see. I knew bermuda needs more Sun but when I saw it come out of dormancy and greening up. I thought it was getting enough Sun but guess with the amount of Sun it gets, it will stay the way it is. Ohhh well atleast I have grass which is way better than the dirt I used to have. :-). Thanks for the reply doc.

    • @DW-ur4xt
      @DW-ur4xt 11 місяців тому

      Bermuda grass needs around 10 to 12 hrs of sun if you want a better shade tolerant grass that plays well with bermuda look for Zosia that also sell seeds but you got to water A LOT when you do seed to get it established I use Green County Fert products myself as far as iron and manganese put down humic acid they sell that to that will help unlock the nutrients to help your yard as well
