I just wanted to say THANK YOU FOR BEING SO THOROUGH!!! My mom has knitted so many beautiful blankets throughout the years. My mom taught me the basic knitting stiches but I hadn't really knitted in years! Well, my mom recently had a stroke and she has been so depressed that her independence is gone along with that all her words and ability to remember her knitting stitches. I had to refresh my knitting stitches from UA-cam so that I could re-teach her everything! I came across your channel and you've been so HELPFUL in our time of need! My mom has been so excited on her progress on her baby blanket for a close cousin. I started her out on the figure 8 stitch on a long loom. This is our 1st time using a loom and it works great for a stroke patient. ❤❤
Thank you for making a good clear, easy to follow video! Just bought a loom multi pack with the long looms,,, I wanted to make as baby blanket for a grandbaby -#7 expected in December,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,can I make a blanket using the figure 8 stitch? I bought a cheap skein of yarn to practice but tried the another stitch and had a hard time looping the yarn over the top,,,, so I am not practicing the figure 8 with the heavy yarn, but think I will try something a bit lighter.... do you recommend a certain wt and gauge for baby blanket and again , can I make it with the figure 8....thanks Virginia!
Maggie Butler You can if you have a long enough loom to get the width you want for the blanket. (Basically the longest loom you have on hand). I like Bernat Baby blanket yarn--it's thick and soft however it does depend on where you live and how cold your winters are for you.
I have another question, can I go from a single rake/stitch to a figure 8? I'd like to start my baby afghan on a single rage because of thickness, the switch to the figure 8 using a different yarn?
Rose Stolarz Do you mean pegs? Or how many rows I do to get the length I want. If you mean pegs it will depend on how wide you want the scarf to be honestly. Some people prefer wider, some skinner. Same with length. I'm only 5ft 2.5 inches tall. :) Have a great night!
It depend on how you want to do one. You can use this as a rake or just make a normal flat panel to make a blanket. I will see what I can do but making (and filming) on blanket on this loom will take time.
Hi, great tutorial, I'm wondering if when hook together/clean up the beginning end, Is it still stretchy? I want some stretch? As well as the bind off, dont know what it's called, chain bind off? I'm doing squares double knit, for a baby blanket, so I dont want it to be restricted totally from stretching. Can you help? My first square is done, and I always use the same cast off on my scarves never with crochet hook, but I know how to crochet, Anyway, will this make it too ttight and restricted? I need help.
It doesn't have as much stretch when it is bound off this way. The chains help. It is best to do up some swatches do to see what bind off/ cast on will work the project you are doing.
I'm sorry I failed to mention, I'll be sewing the squares together so I need it clean and showing what look like a chain stitch, my other comment I left, I need help....if you will read both. I thank you!
How you do the Figure 8 depends on how your loom is set up. One way is this way, there are other ways. If you view my "Stitches" playlist on my channel you will see how to do it on different looms. Hope this helps.
Ashley Lawson I haven't yet but I think you could move loops over to the pegs next to where you want the hole. Then rewrap all the pegs the next time. I would try a small sample before trying in a big project.
You would have to play around with different stitches until you found the one you liked the most. Sometimes the yarn you use will make a difference. Make sure to bind off the beginning stitches.

That warms my heart! I'm glad I could help her and you! New videos are in the works!
I appreciate the bind off technique! It makes the project have a more polished look.
I'm glad you like it!
GREAT VIDEO!!! I have seen some other figure 8 video's but not as detailed. Thanks for another great video!!!
I'm getting ready to finish my first board loom scarf. Thank you so much for such a clear and informative video!
+Trina Powell Thank you for watching!

I bought a set of those picks at Walmart. One of them is great for purling. There’s a ring on each handle that makes it easy to turn the pick.
Nice!!
Great Video... I have had my AIO for a while.. I'm excited to do this scarf on a Rake... Sabra Kelly
Have fun!

Virginia Galligan Thanks

You can try a small swatch and see if you like the look of doing that. I think you could in a way but I've never done that yet.
Thank you very much, for your response and video.
Hello, can I cast on with the figure 8 stitch and then proceed with the normal knit stitch. Sorry if this question is stupid, but I'm a newby
You should be able to. :) And there is no such thing as a a question being "stupid". :)
Thank you. You really helped a lot.
Glad it helped!
That was exactly what I needed to know. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
How many rows do you normally cast on for a scarf?

I would like to know what kind of loom you used for this
It is the All In One Loom from Authentic Knitting Board. It has spacers so you can change out the closeness of the pieces.
I'm sorry I failed to mention, I'll be sewing the squares together so I need it clean and showing what look like a chain stitch, my other comment I left, I need help....if you will read both. I thank you!
Is the figure 8 stitch ,rake r they the about the same?

Any way to make buttonholes while doing this stitch on the loom?

when I cast on how can i make a tighter stitch . keep it from being so loose.
You would have to play around with different stitches until you found the one you liked the most. Sometimes the yarn you use will make a difference.
Make sure to bind off the beginning stitches.
There is a video that shows how to tighten up cast on..best one I have seen...let me know if you still need it...I’ll have to find it in my stash
Great Video... Need to find me a rake...
Excellent! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you!
Glad I found your video. I took the information from your video and applied it to my KB S Afghan Loom.
