It has been years since I watched this video, and I am so glad I came back to refresh my mind on how to use a long loom! Knitting needles make my hands cramp up lately and so here I am for the refresher on this loom. Round looms have been used always but this scarf is prettier than any regular needle that I would have used.

where were you eight years ago when we were told to use needle and extra yarn to bind off? You blew my mind with your creation is much easier and faster with out loosing stitches.Thank you so much for this quick method of binding off making a sweet ending to my beautiful knitting on the loom. HA!HA! pat/texas

randomly decided I need a stress-relieving hobby and bought a loom and yarn on a whim. the included instructions were useless. this tutorial is the most helpful one I've seen, thanks for the detail and repetition!

I got a loom in a box of yard sale yarn. Had no idea how to use it but I clicked on your video and made a cowl which my husband uses as a scarf around the house. Then I made about 15 scarves and 5 hats but this is my favorite stitch to use. You did a wonderful job, clear instructions and you made it look so simple. Now I have so many hats and scarves that I am giving them to the homeless in my area. I even put pretty flowers on the hats because they deserve to have pretty things too. Not too bad for knitting only 3 weeks. I will be able to clothe every person in So. Cal. by next winter. Thank you so much for making it easy and clear.

I have done a scarf as a present in this stitch and it was fantastic. I shall make more and people should not feel as though as they are "cheating" since they are loom knitting (as I was told). Knitting is knitting ...period!!!!

it's not cheating it's just different. I have a hard time using the needles just can't seem to make them work

By that logic, painters are cheating by using brushes and paints.

I am learning how to loom knit with one hand, I have limited use of my right hand/fingers. I have already made 2 scarves for 2 of my nieces & showed them to my sister & now she wants me to make her one. I have tried learning how to crochet & it is a bit of a challenge but I am determined to learn but for now I will work with my looms.

LOVE this tutorial! I do have a question about the cast on stitches. Is there a way to tighten them up so they look as good as the cast off stitches?? Cast on's are loopy while the cast off looks like a nice rope design. Can anyone answer this for me or point me to a solution? I found one video that shows how to tighten them up but it was a different stitch and chunky yarn doesn't bode well with at particular technique.

did you make an infinity scarf? i cannot seem to find a video that tells me how to cast off with a rectangle loom for an infinity scarf. like how to join them together...

    • @anneonimous9306
      @anneonimous9306 7 років тому +1

If you want to join the ends together, you can just sew them together (once you have cast off and finished the scarf).
Alternatively, if you prefer to knit the ends together while the scarf is still on the loom (instead of sewing them together once the scarf is off the loom) you could theoretically do as follows:
Knit the scarf as long as you want.
Then stop at a point when you only have one loop per peg.
Then use your hook to carefully swap all the loops from one side of the loom onto the row of pegs on the opposite side of the loom.
(If you did that correctly, you should now have 2 loops per peg on one side of the loom, but zero loops per peg on the opposite side of the loom).
Now knit over as normal. (i.e. use your hook to knit all the bottom loops over the top loops).
If you did that correctly, you should now have 1 loop per peg on one side of the loom, and still zero loops per peg on the opposite side of the loom.
Now you can take the end of your scarf (the cast on edge / beginning edge) and bring it up and put your row of cast-on loops onto the pegs on the loom that currently each have 1 loop on. Your scarf will now be looped into a circle.
Now you should have 2 loops per peg, so you can knit your bottom loops over the top, and the end of your scarf will now be knitted to the beginning of your scarf.
But after you have done that, you will still have to cast off to avoid the final row of knitting from coming undone, so I don't really recommend this method because it will probably leave you with a row of obvious protruding bumps due to the additional cast off row.
So if you want an infinity scarf, it is probably better just to make the scarf as normal and then sew the ends together.
I say "probably" because I have not actually tried the method described. I was merely visualising it in my head, to try and help you figure out a way to achieve what you want.

Miss you and hope all is going all right for you and your family. I have never made anything on a long loom but this is gorgeous. I just received my long loom today and I'm going to try this. I am currently working on a couple of full sized blankets, one of them using your baby blanket pattern. It is really looking nice. If I figure out how to attach a photo, I would love to send you a photo of a baby blanket I made for a baby shower! I think of you often. Stay safe.

Does anyone know how wide this scarf turns out? I wasn't sure with using 18 pegs. It doesn't appear really wide in the video, but just wanted to ask.
