    Dude you are the man. For real. I've been so hesitant about doing a large dip job. But if it can come out smooth I'm so so ready. You got a new sub too. Keep it up man.

    Just warm those cans in direct sunlight for a few hours and you'll be perfect . Its amazing how warming the can actually makes the paint so much smooother than a cold can where as the paint sometimes appears with small hairs and blobs. Great secret tip

    Thank you so so much man!! I now know why the Plasti Dip on my C350's grille is much finer, that's because i dipped it outside in warm weather and the emblem and trim in the rear in my garage and it was cold...

    I know this an old post but I'm going to plasti dip my spare car. Should you put the can in the hot water in between layers while you wait til the previous layer dry for 15 mins. Or putting it in hot water at the start is enough

    I have a question if your still giving out answers on this video? Just wanted to know if the temperature of the cans has anything to do with the dip being grabby and rubbery instead of smoothish after the initial 3-4 hours of setting, also I’ve painted my car bonnet which had sun damage in the centre and now there is a spot where the sun damage was, should it have shown up through the dip or have I applied it wrong? Thanks 👍🏼

    Great advice! Wish I had viewed this before plastidipping for the first time. I plastidipped a motorcycle wheel 5 coats black and 3 coats glorifier. Overall I am happy but the finish is quite a bit rougher than I wanted. It was hovering around 70F when I was working and temps dipped overnight into the 50s so it took several days for the wheel to not be tacky. Now that I know what to do next time, can I apply this technique over my already plastidipped wheel or do I need to re-do it?

    Have you ever gotten micro bubbles from using the Plastidip spray? I've been working with the cans and at about the 3rd coat, I start seeing micro bubbles that ruin the finish. Maybe I'm running a bit too heavy.

    • @SickDips
      @SickDips  8 років тому +1

      +Papagorgio 916 You can go either way. If you are a beginner, I would say start with a light coat. Otherwise, you can go heavier and get great results.

    Great tips... Just something to ask... If you were to do an emblem in plasti dip and logo's etc, but then wanted to plasti dip the car body, however the logo may be intricate, how do you go about separating/masking and not peeling (the older plasti dip) or vice versa whatever was plasti dipped first?

    • @HooverM75
      @HooverM75 8 років тому

      The easiest way would be let the first layer setup, then use a low tack (less sticky) blue painters tape to mask it off. Then, when you get ready to peel it off, just be very slow and careful with it. Also, make sure your original layers are thicker. If they are too thin, sometimes they will peel off with any type of rubbing, etc.

    • @SickDips
      @SickDips  10 років тому +1

      Go to WalMart or something and get a can of Isopropyl Alcohol and it will strip all of the wax and dirt on your car, so the plastidip has a clean surface to adhere to. If you like the vid, throw it a thumbs up :)

    Great tips, thanks. Have you ever sprayed a whole car using just cans? If so did you get good results? I know its obviously better to use the spray gun kit but the cost is quite a bit higher. I'm wondering if you can get good results from using the cans.

    • @SickDips
      @SickDips  9 років тому +1

      TwoBuck Chuck Yes I have, and of course you sure can. As long as you keep pulling the wet edge of plastidip across your panel, it is for sure attainable. The finish was actually pretty good too i'm not going to lie.

  • @emilianozapata1954
    @emilianozapata1954 9 років тому

    I have a question, what about when your about to dip the whole car and your using the one gallon container, do you also warm that one up before pouring it into the gun or you just make sure you shake it very well. Thanks

    • @SickDips
      @SickDips  9 років тому

      Emiliano Zapata Shake it and agitate it very well. If you can warm it, it can't hurt to do so however it isn't really necessary because when the air travels through the air hose, it gets warmed up and the dip warms before it hits the car.

    Niiiice. The only thing I'd add is that if you have an air compressor, use that to clear out your tips... and if you need to, soak your tips in a disolver, then spray them out with the air compressor with a spray gun attachment. This way your not wasting the CO2 in the can by upside down spraying it out. You let all that out, and you've got product stuck in the can that you'll never get out, as you have no way to ever get propellant back into the can.

  • @rasonline

    Nice tip about holding the can upside down to clear it out. BUT here is another tip - most people buy more than one can, so just lift a nozzle from another can while you leave the blocked one to soak and clear out.

    • @SickDips

      +Chris Yong The can might have been too cold, and you didn't shake it well enough.

  • @Tj1056
    @Tj1056 10 років тому

    I have a problem when laying mine down. like on my motorcycle the front nose fairing has so much curve to it that when I am spraying on one side of it that the over spray is landing on the other part and making it textured. idk what to do about that.

    • @SickDips
      @SickDips  10 років тому

      The first and the last coats are the most important ones. The first coat must be misted on where the last coat must be applied wet to get a good final finish. If you're having trouble with the overspray when you're hitting one side, just make sure that the last coat is wet all around. Remember that plastidip is self levelling, so when its wet, it'll flatten itself out even if you 'overspray' onto it.

    • @SickDips
      @SickDips  9 років тому

      Ryan Hall What do you mean the bottom of the can popped out? Popped out of what?

    • @ryansbbq1554
      @ryansbbq1554 9 років тому

      If you were to put a can of soda in the freezer for too long the bottom of the can pops out so its got a round bottom. Well the same thing happened to the dip can after being in hot water.

    • @SickDips
      @SickDips  9 років тому

      Oh yeah I see what you mean. I'm not sure as how hot that is but clearly, it was too hot. Bring it back to where you bought it and maybe they can give you a refund. I always just use the hot water from the taps. Does the job and I leave it in the bowl or whatever for about 10 minutes before using it.

    I’ve gotten much better using Plasti dip. My stuff now looks great but at first I heated the can a little to much and the bottom of the can started to bulge out. Just don’t get the can too hot. It has plenty of strength though because it pushes out over 1/2 an inch and still worked fine. Curious if anyone had this happen. I haven’t seen any comments about anywhere yet. Maybe I was just over zealous lol.

    Good tips but might I suggest you use paper to demo the difference (instead of plastic). I also find it odd when people use plastic to mask off body panels when spraying a car. THe spray stays wet for longer on the plastic, and it can end up dripping.
