It's sort of the point Finegold hammers home in so many videos. We patzers at this level might play a great opening, a great middlegame, maybe even a strong endgame, but then we blunder a rook on move 32 (or mate on move 14) and it all really doesn't matter.
11:12 "if King takes E4, black has forced mate after this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then this and then checkmates" Ah yes of course I saw all that ahead of time
Too real. Getting crushed in a recommended line. If that's true, that whole game was a meme, with Eric taking like 5 minutes to think only for opponent to blunder M2.
I love when opponents just all play the same line against me due to some meme. You get to really see who actually pays attention and who just hopes the first tricky move is sufficient.
Loved this one. These are getting more intense and challenging, but the margin of error even with a 1600+ player is still much higher. Enjoying how you handle the various openings too!
At 11:17 can someone explain what "annenis" means? My spell checker tries to correct it to "Anemia" and I can't find annenis in the Merriam-Webster. It must be one of Eric's strange Scrabble™ words.
I watch a lot of speedrun content, and going in you know a master player has great calculation and in-depth knowledge of openings. But it's always end game technique that I find the most impressive. Game 3 is a good example, the other player can hang in the opening and middle game but as soon as the queens come off the extra pawn is an overwhelming advantage and Eric plays in a really specific way that makes converting look so easy.
Thanks for these videos. I’ve watched them all and some more than once. My chess is getting better because I concentrate on development now and look for forks and discovered attacks. Most excellent instruction.
The engine lines you showed in the first two games were absolutely crazy. If anyone thinks humans have a chance against engines, this kind of line is a good demonstration of why that absolutely isn't the case.
39:45 opponent had 4min to think and he blundered. You nearly lost on time if he had not blundered this because theres no increment. The 1st game was a piece of art- you played amazing. Thanks
at move 20 in game 3, you had qd2 treatening mate on h6. I don't actually see how black stops it either. I think it was a move on move 18 as well, instead of protecting the pawn, you could offer the pawn which black couldn't take or you mate.
The position around 25:20, I saw the idea of obstructing the bishop and then threathening to get rid of it with the rook, but it was all the other moves in between those two ideas I couldn't find lol. Honestly doesn't seem that hard to find for a much better player than me if you have those ideas in mind.
30:22 how about just castling king side becaus then rook woul defend the pawn and also defending the bishop and also we dont need to defend our knight anymore.. am i right?
Yes, I couldn't understand why the option of castling kingside wasn't mentioned. The queenside castling involved losing the b-pawn immediately, with almost no protection for the king remaining.
ERIC, WE WANT TO SEE THIS SPECIFIC SPEED RUN CONTINUED! PLEASE DON'T PACK IT IN BEFORE An ending conclusion, i'm sure you won't but had to mention it as your entire audience is on the edge of their seats! Thank you pal, a magnificent offering this has been!!
I play this knight jump jobava a lot (courtesy of Banzea!) and probably knight to A6 is the best response, at least for those of us who don't have the brain power for deep calculation where you might lose your queen!
Second game: rooks go on half open files. Move the rook early on to the half open files like the heuristics dictate. Then nearing the end as the opponent's knight sat in peril the other rook could easily have moved to h6 and there was little left.
well played lucan5! I think the better choice would have been to use your time for good moves, instead of continue timepressuring him. at least you brought some heartrate to our master.. :D
Around 1800 the games will get harder and harder and it's very very likely that he will lose against an opponent around 2100. One positional blunder can decide the game in this rating range.
If Eric castles kingside then opponent could use the semi open g file to attack his king. Castling queenside also allows Eric to conduct a king side pawn storm to help attack the opponent's king. So it's both a defensive and offensive idea. However it proved to be double edged because the opponent played a very strong attack on Eric's king.
@@simon555-55 Intuitively the open g-file just seemed extremely benign to me compared to castling out in the open with xc3 coming up next. I didn't think that any pawn storm would have any relevance at all given that the g-file was already open and he was already threatening Bxh7?
33:18 I might be stupid - but I think Qd2 ain't about attacking the pawn at all. Think the more pressing matter is that it is a mate-in-one threat that needs to be handled.
About Qd2... it looks playable, but you hear Eric mumble (that black would defend with) "Kg7 hmmm"..... Kg7 takes the g file away from the rook, so it's a nice move to force, but it's hard to see how it actually leads to anything... I think Eric was feeling the pressure from blacks attack and his primary concern was getting his pieces coordinated and active and on the right squares and Qd2 possibly felt like distracting his Q from where it belonged. He considers threatening the h6 pawn with Qc1 a few moves later only to realize it hangs mate. In that position as well I think Qd2 was playable but the reasoning would be the same. Kg7 and what have you accomplished?
Eric calculating for most of his time just for the opponent to blunder mate in 2 immediately is so on point
It's sort of the point Finegold hammers home in so many videos. We patzers at this level might play a great opening, a great middlegame, maybe even a strong endgame, but then we blunder a rook on move 32 (or mate on move 14) and it all really doesn't matter.

I love when you shift from "gotta take my time and explain it really slowly for my viewers" to "I have 30 seconds to win this game"
Releasing these right at bedtime is a uniquely clever idea IM Rosen. I love it. You have an amazing voice.
the earth is round, time is not real
I think you mean time is arbitrary and relative. But relative to where Eric lives it's bedtime when the video comes out.
The ads wake me up

Hats off to the opponent in game 3 - did a brilliant job and played way above their rating level

Pretty sure that jobava london was a specific line a UA-camr recommends, and player followed it as far as he could remember.

Calm in real life while dealing with chaos on the chessboard is absolutely one of the things I associate with Eric.

Hey Eric, the audio quality has gone down a bit last couple videos. Sounds kind of scratchy. Just bringing to your attention!
Does this affect LeBron's legacy?
Jopava London leads to a very chaos setouation if the white knight approaches c7
We can prevent it by playing a6 before white Nb5
or Na6 after

Lucan5 probably threw a brick at his computer in rage after losing that game.

Last game, would castling king side be a mistake?
Can anyone explain what the upside of castling queen side in that last game was? That part was rather confusing and counter intuitive to me.
