I am greatly enjoying the increased frequency of speedrun videos lately.
Best series!
Yes ,I agree !!
Agreed!
Agreed!
That was a thriller! I wasn't as calm as Eric was.
He demonstrated his IM experience and endgame mastery in the end.
Impressive against a 1700 with an engine too
@@wsemenske well based off the 1700's terrible opening knowledge Im guessing they didnt have an engine
The amazing thing about the last game is how Eric is able to keep calm under a very stressful situation. Think about it from Eric's point of view. He is an international master, playing a 1700 rated player, and he is on 130+ unbeaten run playing with black down on time and realizing he is cooked. Talk about fear of embarrassment losing to a less rated player, or the fear of ending a winning streak, or the mental block that comes to us when we realize there is not enough time left in the game and we are way behind on the clock. Yet, he was calm throughout the last 90 seconds and able to focus and play all the right moves and win. Great lesson of controlling emotions and keeping your focus and of course a great lesson of never giving up.
Yeah but Eric is ALWAYS calm! Even when he finds a way to sacrifice his queen for the win he barely smiles. Of course he might be cooking underneath, who knows. What I am trying to say: I have never seen Eric Rosen being not calm. That's not just his default state, he probably is incapable of being angry, frustrated or nervous :)
@@Puschit1 This seems lighthearted, but don't forget he's a human being lol. Saying someone can't feel stressful emotions lessens their achievement of doing well while having them
@@Puschit1 hes a human being of course he can feel anger, frustration, nerves
What I learn most from Eric isn't even the chess itself, it's the "how to think" and how to control your emotions and stay objective during the game. The way he explains the thought process is so logical, and so patient (so different to my play!) that I'm learning a great deal on how to "re-program" my thinking during a chess game.
Thank you so much @EricRosen !
@@Puschit1you should watch his streams with heartbeat monitor! He seems calm, but he gets nervous too like everyone else
That tactic in Game 1 is so filthy. Beautiful line.
Man I saw winning the rook (bd5 instead of bd3) and completely overlooked the mate threat.
Absolutely nasty.
@@MyBiPolarBearMax This is something that Eric shows a lot in his matches, always look for mate and the number of tactics you call pull of because of this increases a lot.
first game was just a player that may know opening principles but has 0 idea on why they are the way they are and definitly never looked into any form of opening lines.
@@mauer1I think it's more a case of them not knowing opening principles. One of the basic principles is that you can't let your opponent take the whole center unless you have a way to make it a target a la the Grunfeld or King's Indian. Even if they had never seen something like the Ponziani or the Alapin, a principled player would know they need to put pressure on e4 to prevent d4.
@@dsrguru
i mean they definitly didnt play by principles
but that doesnt necessarly mean they dont know them.
Found that tactic in the first game really fascinating as when I'd be sacking a Knight for a pawn like that its usually with a follow up with taking the pawn with the Bishop. Always great to see new patterns.
This is better than Christmas, 3 speed run videos in 10 days... AMAZING!!
caught it just as it uploaded! so glad you're doing these more often now. always enjoy watching you show no mercy!
5:15 "....when I was around this rating - back when I was 10 or 11 years old" - casual
I really enjoy watching your games especially the way you explain your thoughts and theory behind your moves.
These speed runs are my favourite things to watch on UA-cam at this time.
20:43
It took me a good while after hearing this to remember that it is still possible for Eric to lose. I've been subconsciously thinking he always wins lol
Eric: Everything's under control now.
Eric's Clock: 13.4 seconds
UA-cam: Here's an ad you can't skip.
Also UA-cam: Here's another ad.
ARRRRRRRRGH!
Smart Tube Next for the big screen, never see an ad again.
I see Eric is featured in today's "Chess winning move" column in The Times (UK). It is a position from Rosen-Vlasssov, Titled Tuesday 2024.
Wow, that first game was an opening slaughter.
that last one was a thriller!! go eric!
Eric is taking speedrun to a whole new level
His regained quite some energy, 3 speedruns in a week time, i am loving it.
The only thing better than your chess is your personality, thanks for all the content!
Seriously. I love Eric. Levy's greatest gift to me was introducing me to Eric Rosen.
These are my favorite videos!
"Everythings under control now" 12 seconds left. That was awesome! Most heart pounding game yet. I really thought you were a goner. Then when opponent got low on time they started making mistakes. Down to 5 seconds! Yeah could have went for the bishop takes knight and doubled the pawns sooner. Seemed like would have been a damaging move.
I have an essay for my class due today and I just started, I got a notification saying that theres a new video. im gonna watch it. Am i cooked
Update: I watched the video and am currently working on the essay, I should be able to finish it 🤞🤞
Just do your essay man, Eric's videos aren't going anywhere, save your grades then reward yourself with the video
Don't do your essay, eric rosen needs your help to win chess
It's the best series on UA-cam imo. Your essay can wait 😀
Yes, do ur essay
Ah yes, the essay gambit. Did you take?
Oh No, my sleep.
I literally cannot keep up with the speed of uploads, which is a good thing! keep em coming
I love this series so much you have no idea. Listening to your thinking while you are playing teaches me a lot. I'm always waiting for the next one. I'm even suggesting you do a second run after this one!
The way you are able to still perform under pressure while explaining your thought process is really impressive. Great stuff.
I'm loving these more regular uploads. What a treat!
Really enjoying these. Thank you
Eric, I hope you’re enjoying these speed runs as much as we are! I really hope once you’re finished with this one you keep the train rolling and start over again! It’s just so informative, I can’t get enough!
Thanks for the frequent upload Eric. This is my favorite series on YT atm
Really enjoying the frequent uploads, thank you so much!! This series is greatly helping me improve my chess as I rewatch the videos and learn new things.
After c3 I was thinking of taking on g4 and trading rooks and then bishop takes a2... Probably not that good though since it wasn't considered, I guess because it would give white the open file.
My heart was racing for you in that second game. Thought your run was coming to an end. Well well handled. I learnt a lot from that game! Thank you.
3 episodes in a row! Thank you! 🔥
The videos were helpful for my chess games thanks!😊
i love this series so much
Really enjoying this.
Thank you Eric, always an enjoyable class and learning something....:))
At this rating level the players tend to go from playing like 1200s one game to 2200s the next, as this video demonstrates.
Playing like a 2500 but moving consistently 5 seconds. Weird how the end they couldn't move faster
@@wsemenske there's people who just don't play quicker time controls and just freak out in time trouble
@@wsemenske Paranoid nonsense. As if you'd have any idea how a 2500 plays or even a 1700.
@@wsemenske He got a winning position by playing solid developing moves and with 3 minutes left on the clock he made a bunch of consecutive mistakes by playing attacking moves that turned the game equal again.
I don't think the game is very suspicious
This was the best yet!
I love these speed runs. Learn a lot and sometimes amazed how you see many moves ahead. What I would like even more would be new series of speed runs with specific openings. For example speed run to 1500 only using an opening like "The Italian Opening", of course not all games would permit this, but this way we can see how to handle different variations for a specific opening.
Thanks Eric!
Bro you reached to my rating with this episode… I want to get paired with you…. It will be fun
I guess we're speedrunning new speedrunning videos? either way, i'm all for it.
I need moooore
Love ur vids eric, always cool and fun
3 episodes in 1 week... I'm beginning to feel spoiled. And that second game... Damn!
Watching game 2 unfold was the most stressful then most relieving I felt in a while
Another great video. Thanks for awesome commentary, explaining your decision making in detail for a beg.-intermediate player like me to understand. ❤
4:10 beautiful tactic
I need these everyday
I was randomly watching some 5 year old belgrade gambit vid on this channel yesterday...and it's shockingly similar to this first game.
This is my favorite chess series on UA-cam
Oh no, my king! That was close.
I can relate to your opponent here. Having the better position, having the time advantage, and still not managing to win. 😅
Close call. Thanks Eric!
Amazing video as always. Im gonna watch it later.
How do you know it's amazing when you're gonna watch it later 😁. It is amazing though.
GO Eric! With No mercy ofc
My heart was racing for you there Eric 😂
What a comeback!
first game had such a nice tactic
shocked that a 1700 knight takes e5 in the Spanish
The last game was great!
Engine hated the bishop dropping back at 1730. Went from -0.8 to +1.4. it thought stepping the b pawn up was right.
15:49 that scene is so mesmerizing 😅
Love these videos! I play ponziani as white.. currently 1718 rapid. Unfortunately my opponents never play what black did in game 1 😂
Show No Mercy by Slayer could/should be your new theme song 😃 you seem like a big metal head at heart.
Would be good to add search parameters for future episodes to keep the opponents more consistent over the series - possibly +- 50
Chances that second guy was using engine for some of the game? Some of those moves were really suspect
100%
Probably not the entire game, But some moves were the best. Maybe he is a GM doing a Speedrun too 🤷♂️
seemed pretty normal imo
last game was nuts
great video, can't wait you reach 1900
speedrun is the top dog content
At what rating in the speedrun should you start playing *The Stafford Gambit?*
So, in the first game when Eric said Black would lose the queen or suffer checkmate in the next move, I spotted f5. It doesn't lose the queen right away and gives the king an escape square. But Stockfish calls it +15 for White, much worse than its recommended plays: Qxg2 or Nc3, both of which lose the queen and are +8 to +9. Pretty hopeless position for Black.
Thank you for leaving it at 2 games.. I need a break 😅
how do you visualize the tactics so easily?😭 at 4:20 i would’ve just moved the bishop back, instead there was a way to checkmate…very impressive
We need speedrun episodes every day ❤
pretty soon... eric will hafta put the heart rate monitor on.... :D :D Cheers!!!!
Second day in a row falling asleep to this video :)
I cant wait for you to get to the 1900s
Let's go Ponziani!
It would've been nice if you included what the engine thought you should've been doing in game 2. Not sure if you were just supposed to trade off the bishops instead of dropping the light-squared bishop back?
Wow the first one 😂
Is the rook at e5 "trapped" I mean... Has to move back from the 5th rank and from protecting the bishop ? It could have been moved back pushing the f and c pawns... Right ?
Then opponent takes your bishop. At 26:20
18:38 white can still go f4 and win the exchange
Who else is here for the relaxing, dulcet tones of IM Eric Rosen after a hard day of work?
ultimate remedy against insomnia
Whew!
What a good Danish player :)
I almost accidentally watched the video without hitting the like button first!
This one was a real nail biter!
what rating do you think you'll get your first loss or draw to?
That was a nail biter.
At which elo did you feel a significant difference in the strength of your opponents?
I think it was even too many improving moves that time.
last game: I thought best move to address that d6 knight threat is rook d4, what am I missing?
When I was 10 or 11 my main opening was Scholar's Mate, as black.
Man around 13 minutes both horsies being pinned like that is NASTY. Such good squares but completely taken out by the fact that they're BOTH pinned to the king. Always these toxic kings sandbagging. Edit: OKAY wtf was that game. Crazy how things can change so quickly and so often. That was probably the most impressive game in the speedrun so far, for me at least.
That was an interesting game by nielsfish
At 4:10, black could have played Ke7 and prevented check mate no?
Yeah but then black loses the queen
22:40 what would have happened at Kc3 instead of Ke3?
...Rxf4, Kxb3 Rxf3+ maybe.
Maybe it is time to switch to some new openings? I am curious to see d4 or Sicilian with Eric's explanations.
Pfoeii, I almost unsubscribed along the midgame in game 2. Close call there mate.
Does anyone know what happened to Jonathan Schrantz (Vampire Chicken)? He's been quiet for 6 days. I'm worried.
Is that a chess player or what does he do?
Bruh 6 days? Maybe he just wanted a break
@@TheMosayat he used to edit Rosen videos and play/teach/stream chess.
@@randomizednamme I guess but he was saying he was feeling really sick right before
I'm morbidly curious to see what elo you receive your first real loss of the series.
