I have no idea why anyone would thumbs down this video. I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos. Thank you! I truly appreciate you, and I've learned so much.
@@djTLMtv Hey TLM ive just ordered my first Controller a Numark Party Mix and im just wondering when dealing with songs with intros would it be better to place a hot cue where the beat starts, or just use the jogwheel to hold that position and throw it in?
Reaktor I’m not TLM but I can answer you. It depends on the mix you are trying to pull off. If you find some fantastic mix that requires you to be fast w it than you should make yourself a hot cue. If it doesn’t matter than just find the first beat of the drum after the intro. It’s really up to what you are trying to do. If I’m free styling I’ve noticed that I will just find it and hit the pause button on that first beat.
Wow, what a great video, high quality, for free and it's 9 years old. Sure, there aren't many vinyl DJs left, but this is really good knowledge even for digital DJs.
I had that problem for a long time but when i started praying attention to it, my mix and my dj performance got to another level. Very important what u are doing dude! Congrats for sharing the knowledge in a real way. Top! 👏👏
I know this is years old, but as I have been away from the decks for years, these videos are excellent refreshers for and updates to tech. since the industry has changed from even last year. Thank you sir, nothing but respect!
You have the best videos of any DJ tutorials, you explain everything so clearly and go right back to basics. The basics are so important! Your lessons have got me feeling confident and up and running so fast.
I think a good point to bring up for the track at ~11:00 is that it has a very recognizable sound at the end of its phrases. Many many tracks have it no matter what genre, and if you notice these, you can get more of a 'feel' for the phrase instead of having to constantly count by.
OMG I had to see your video in loop mode, because I started thinking the songs I had on my records to mixing and counting them... lost some key moments. But for sure a great tutorial. Thank you
This video remembered me the first time I had this lesson! It's not a easy video to someone who is learning the first time, but you are definitely a good teacher.
Probably one of the best channels for explaining mixing etc. Im oldskool so still only use my Technics 1210’s with a standard mixer. I’m yet to use cdj’s or for that matter anything digital. I would like to get a more advanced mixer and link it up to a laptop but imo there’s nothing like doing everything manually. I get why digital can help etc and in some ways improve stuff but I just can’t see the fun in hitting a sync button etc, there’s nothing more satisfying when u first learn how to mix and get it matching, it’s literally feels magical and so much fun!! Respect for your tutorials bro 👊🏼
Dude, you have no fucking idea how much you are helping me out..i must say, i didnt know shit about mixing before i watched your videos and i really appreciate your dedication to teach us !
@DJ TLM I know I’m super late, but I had to say I’ve been learning a ton from you. This was, for me at least, the most informative and growth inducing video I’ve watched on UA-cam. I knew how to count beats, bars, ect. I knew the theory of beat matching and while I haven’t mastered it yet, I’ve been practicing for a while. However, this was the first time anyone has ever broken down the intro and how it can help or hurt you. Definitely leave this series and video up as I’m sure it will help others and I will definitely reference it again to improve my skill level! Thank you for the knowledge sincerely!
once again another killer video! i had to learn this technique over time by myself. This has just summed it up for me all over again. I love the way you explain. you cover all the points which leaves barely any questions to ask! Much love and respect brother. From down in Australia
Same here. I had to learn it by myself, but it did come naturally because it made sense to me. Only after I heard other DJ's do it wrong did I realize that that feeling doesn't come naturally to everyone.
djTLMtv a lot of dj's just overlook the most logical way of mixing one track to another with the timing of the track. A lot of dj's dont know or do not care to understand bars and phrases (timing) of tracks which spoils their performance. A large chunk of skill and creativity is lost because of that
Man i dont even know where to begin. All I can say is that all your tutorial videos are easy to follow along through and i appreciate that you are thorough in explaining why the technique or form has to be that way. This video has helped it all come together and i say why timing is key in transitions. Gonna be practicing this till i get it down and mastered. Thanks Again man.
DJTLM, thanks so much for making the time to do these videos. Only an expert could make these techniques sound so simple and clear. You've saved me from throwing my controller out he window on more than one occasion!
I recently wanted to learn to beatmatch and mix and what not...ive seen different videos on the matter and this one is the best one out of all of them that helps u understand easily and clearly.
i think the most important thing to get this right is to listen several times to each new track that you buy before you try to mix it. nowing your tracks is the best base for miximg. a fantastic video as always. kepp up the good work
By far the clearest explanations of what's going on. I'm looking into doing mixes for myself, and I've learnt more from your videos than anything else out there. Thanks!
Another great tutorial TLM! This is also a great place to play with your crossfader curve and or your channel faders. It seems to me that you being predominantly a Hip Hop/ R&B DJ and very scratch oriented DJ you run with a sharp or short crossfader curve. On the other hand I gravitate more toward House, Breakbeat, Dubstep and other EDM. I tend to play around with more layering using a long or slow crossfader curve and layering more than just 2 tracks using my channel faders. I love playing with instrumentals, accapella tracks and drum only tracks. If I can find it I love it when I can also find the instrumental minus drums. It's so fun to layer the accapella from one track over a drum loop from another. This is where it becomes so important for DJs to know the music in their crates (or folders) and always thinking about what you left behind at home on that huge shelf of records you have. (Not as much of a problem with DVS and Terrabyte+ hard drives.) Using what you teach in this video should also get people psyched to go to their local record stores for a Crate Dig. This video is also great motivation to join a record pool or subscribe to a DJ service like Promo Only, Top Hits or Ultimix. Thanx for another Awesome video tutorial.
Thank you so much for taking time out to make these sessions. I use to DJ after the army to pay for college. 12 crates, 4 speakers and my mixer and techniques. But now the army you retired. i am taking back up. I have the numark pro3. You have helped me tremendously. Thank you. DJ MoBetter
For real, I want to thank you already! I'm a starter dj since beginning this year and I haven't found any tutorial/ytchannel that has been so helpful and inspirational as yours! if you ever visit Belgium imma make sure i'll catch your show. Thanks!
I just started mixing not to long ago and I have to tell you, your videos are the best tool I've found so far man! they are so informational and detailed....love the vids keep em coming bro!
i salute you @djtlmtv because you spread the knowledge that makes people happy, amdoing it in person also but free in saudi arabia and still learning. may you have a happy and wonderfull life and spark other people brains.
Thank you very much for taking time out of your schedule to make these videos. They've really have been beneficial to me since I'm new to djing. Keep up the great work salute.
brruuuh ! DjTLM youre the man homie. i just started djing for less then 2 weeks and ive learned alot from your channel . thank you very much and i meant it 100 . Thank you sir
Thanks man really helped I have watch a lot of tutorials and this is by for the best and essayist to follow had no idea about counting the music till now I now have a basic idea about beat matching and timing and can practice a lot better your the man :)
I still haven't mastered it yet, but I'm getting there only been doing it for a few weeks now, got a pioneer controller and serato, I'm trying not to do it via the software, i wanna learn it manually...... Its just like driving a car, when you first do it everything seems so hard and complicated trying to do 4 things at the same time (clutch. Accelerate, indicate, look in the mirrors, steer.. Etc) but once you practice, it becomes second nature and you won't have to think to much about it.... Thanks for the video bro, nuff respect from London!
Hey I really appreciate what you are doing for the people who enjoy this but do not really know where to get started. I know it really helped me when I started out about 8 months ago. I am still really new, and have so much to learn, these videos really give great insight into the core DJ fundamentals. I mix on a Pioneer DDJ SX2 (I know, not vinyl, D: ) Whatever you do, please do not stop making these videos, very helpful. Maybe we could throw in something about proper use of effects in the next video, would be really help me out along with a ton of other people. I know I overuse them sometimes. Didn't come hear to request anything though, just wanted to say great videos, really helpful and keep it up DJ TLM!
Hey Dj TLM, Thanks for this video series, I found this video particularly helpful. I actually had a colleague trying to explain the beat counts to me on saturday at a gig we were doing, but he had some trouble describing it properly, which unfortunately left me confused. This cleared everything up- it's amazing that even though I'm a drummer, for whatever reason, I would never have thought to look for the bars or measures in DJing. Most of what we do is 4 on the floor, so I just figured as long as it lined up it would work. This was super helpful, and will most definitely help me progress in my DJ ability and career. Thanks again!
Thanx DjTLMtv , i think what you are doing to help the community is ABOVE and BEYOND.. We are so lucky to have you. Much of my knowledge is because of your videos. Thank you so much and if there is anything you need think of us. Maybe we can return the favor.
hey man you the best teacher for djs I sware thanks bro you have taught me a lot ! these vids are just what I need, plus subbed and liked. thx again =)
I have no idea why anyone would thumbs down this video. I truly appreciate the time and effort you put into these videos. Thank you! I truly appreciate you, and I've learned so much.
"Luckily" we don't see those anymore. Thanks Google!
what is so impressive is that he is talking to the camera but he still didn't lose his count of the music. That's crazy
Not that crazy, after a while you don't really count that much you just feel the music and know which bar it's at.
Super late response: after a while it becomes second nature and you're not even thinking about it anymore
