You are definitely one of the best DJs out there and probably the best UA-camr for tutorials. Youre able to do it the old school way, truly understand your music and beats. Man you got it all! Clear, informative, and yet humble. I'm trying to learn how to mix house but I also wanted to learn hip hop so thank you for providing such a great outlet for beginners!
Hi guys, I've been extremely busy with different projects, gigs and private life and as a result I was not able to make new video's in the last two weeks. I'm back in the lab right now and the new video's are dropping asap! Thanks for the support and patience. TLM
I could sit and listen to you all day everything you say is so straight forward and informative ..great work Even some of the more simple things can go along way into your set...your building confidence in many people including myself
12:39 That loop transition is HOT HOT HOT HOT. Heard transitions like that before but first time I had it explained. Great way to mix songs with different tempos. Thanks, gonna practice this one....
@@djTLMtv Haven't tried Djing myself yet, but been watching your videos from time to time, really nice content!!! Is there a way to do this transition, analog with vinyl? Like cueing that loop with two records, as you showed in the beginning and then switching to a third faster record on a third turntable? Or would you need 4 hands for that? Or could you nudge the record back only with the left hand and have a scratch-hot-scratch-hot sound as the loop, and then switch to the second record, or is it impossible to get that down precisely enough?
You can use any genre of music. So it doesn't matter at all. I used a couple of homemade beats for this video because of copyright issues, but you can use anything.
TLM, this is so ILL! The tutorials are legit, but my biggest compliment to you is about how you include hip-hop/DJ history in the modules...GENIUS! I'm a high school teacher and I completely respect and appreciate your efforts on UA-cam. Cheers!!!
Absolutely excellent tutorial about the general idea of 'Looping". While there are plenty more uses and functions around looping, djTLMtv covers the most basic but extremely important aspects. Looping is key in presenting your audience with a silky smooth and grain-free performance, its not a means of 'cheating' when one cannot mix within a time frame. Keep in mind that when you mix 2 tracks you are creating something beautifully harmonic (assuming you are mixing 2 tracks that are within the harmonic circle), it essentially becomes 1 track. 2 tracks played harmonically has the potential to yield an immense quality of a mix. It also aids you in creating more 'time' within the tracks, allowing more freedom to tweak in effects. All the top DJs, especially in the dance music genre use it religiously, why shouldn't you? Again, excellent guide here guys, bravo TLMtv.
I found several songs that I did the loop function that transitioned into another song that had the same line or phrase in it and it worked perfectly. But Like TLM said, it's one of those things that you can't really do on the fly. That's something that you have to plan and set cue points for. Great tip bro. I learn so much from every video you make.
Hi guys, Due to health issues I couldn't finish video's I was working on (NS7-2 review) and I can't record new video's either. I lost my voice over the weekend and that makes it a bit difficult to record stuff ;) I should be fine in a couple of days so stay tuned! For the DJ's who would like to be part of the Saturday Super Session: Join the Saturday Super Session and send me your own video!
Yo this is whats up, finally i have my first dj controller,Numark mixtrack pro 3, and I've been watching different peoples vids on tips pointers about djing. But DjTLM is hands down the most official guy putting these types of videos out. And its not just about his tips and tricks, its how he presents the topics so easy to comprehend in detail so you can digest everything. Thanks Big Dog for making this channel its fo sho can take people starting out in this lane the knowledge!!!
Thank you DJ TLM for sharing your experience and knowledge...I have applied some of these techniques to my style and DJING is so much more fun and fulfilling!
Hey man I just started learning how to DJ (or mixing whatever :P) a few days ago, and your tutorials definitely helped me A LOT! those are definitely super helpful for a beginner like me! Thank you for making such great and straight-to-the-point content! Cheers!!!
I know I’m late to the party, but TLM, thank you yet again my brother. I have been dabbing with the loop roll, but haven’t really figured out the best use for it. Well, today problem solved. Yo, just shear luck, that I came across this video today. Mad respect to you sir, if you re every playing in Germany let us know, wouldn’t mind checking it out live.
For DJ’s who might not have looping functions but have a pioneer mixer: the roll effect is essentially a looper too. It samples a section of music. At smaller increments such as 1/4, 1/8 etc it really just sounds like noise, but if you set it to 4/1 it will record a full bar. Then you can switch the channel selector to a different channel (my djm 400 is only 2 channels so I set it to mic to have both channels free) & continue your mix without worrying about the song ending.
Dam!!! Wish I had you as a teacher I could listen to your videos all dam day. Very informative and straight to the point. Im thinking about becoming a dj and your videos give me inspiration. Keep doing what you doing man! Thanks!
I definitely had to subscribe! Keep doing what you do man. This is Gods plan for you! A gift from the almighty. It seems like it comes so natural to be able to teach these lessons. Not many people can do that, so I'm just sending much respect to you man.
I appreciate you Fam...You have skills on the wheels and can communicate your points very clear and to the point. I really like the multiple ways to use the loops and why you would use them...BIG UP and Keep Doing What Your're Doin!!! Respect
Thank you for making these videos🙏🏽 You presented this video in a very simple & approachable way that motivates me to try and apply the techniques with confidence🙌🏽
Good stuff! I am a new DJ and this is so helpful getting started creating mixes. I am glad that my Pioneer DDJ-SX2 controller has tons of loop functions and the two jog wheels to simulate what you are doing on vinyl.
Merci !! Thank you :-) The last use of the loop you show can help bridginf the gap between two songs with totally different BPM simply by shortening the loop you want out, scratch the track you want in on the 1st beat and BANG. I'ts commonly used in drum & bass for example
Thank you so much. I have been mixing edm, hardstyle and trap. But i have allways liked to listen on hip hop and the last months i have been listening to hip hop non stop. So i decided to start mixing some hip hop, but that shit is hard compared to the other genres i'm mixing. This techniques really helps me to to do smoother mixes without just droping in the new track and turn down the volume at the track being played. I really appreciate your videos!
I'm just starting out and I've only had my controller a couple of days but I'm slowly figuring out the loop function. A couple of times I haven't quite got my next track ready and I've used the loop to play some of the music longer to give me more time. From my limited experience so far I would say the auto loop is not 100% perfect but then that could just be my lack of experience but when I do get it right it is a great tool to have.
wow, I have probably heard this transition loop before, just never knew how simple it is to do. Always thought they were pitch changing or something. Can't believe it is that simple (if you do the preparation). 👍 Definitely going to practice and add this to my tool bag.
Great Vid, I've been spinning since the 80's. I'm tryin to move to the latest DJ software from my CD and TT mixing. Your style and techniques are really helping me out bro, Thanks for your hard work!
i am more of a house/techno/disco djay...i am using software until i can get a couple turn tables, i use the loop effect to blend and create new beats, also at the beginning of a track, i have use it for mc'ing or while during someone is performing in between djays sets, too...i like to see the old fashion techniques, i hope to be able to do this right once i have my turn tables...thanks for sharing!
First let me say your thank you, your segments are A1. You do a great job breaking things down. DJ TLM Can you break down Serato Flip and do a tutorial on it?
another thing I do with looping is when I want to compensate for lacking parts in a song. for example, if Im playing Thrift Shop I often loop the drums and bass from another song to make up for the Macklemore's kinda weak beat. Its a bit tricky to do well, but It can help spice up a stale track
8 years later and your videos are still the best on UA-cam for learning
I LIKE THIS GUY.. I BEEN A DJ FOR OVER 30 YEARS. NOW IM JUST GETTING INTO SERATO YOU HAVE HELPED ME ALOT. THANK YOU BROTHER.. YOU THE BEST..

You know EDM means all Electronic music? Trap is part of EDM. Just in case you didn't know but just sayin
yeah i know, hip hop is also EDM. But when most of the people think of edm they think off the mainstream edm like aviccii or Tiesto.
+FriendN edm trap is a sub genre of edm like diplo is and rap trap is a sub genre of hip hop like future?
Thanks for this great tutorial. I'm just starting to learn how to mix and this was really well presented.
Very clean and clear tut. TY!!
Great video full of tipz. Thanks for really spelling out for how to use the Loop fx, this is just what I was looking for DJ TLM
