The '70s were the golden era of progressive-symphonic rock. Genesis, Yes, ELP, PFM,Queen, Pink Floyd, etc. and all the solo projects of his musicians continue to be my musical standard. Peter Gabriel demonstrates why he is rock's No. 1 frontman. Listening to their albums was like going to the cinema or the opera. We were very fortunate to live our adolescence at that time. Collins and Gabriel's harmonies were a constant as were Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury (that's why I also love Dany and Paulina from TW). Thank you guys for keeping this music alive. !
The guitar solos were generally done by Steve Hackett. Mike Rutherford took on that role starting with the album "And Then There Were Three" (1978) with Hackett's departure.
I almost did what you did. I saw this midnight special show and the opening of watcher of the Sky's and as soon as I saw Peter's face and costume I thought to myself not another KISS ripoff cause I hate KISS. Later on I found out what I was missing and became a fan.
I have seen Steve Hacket and band on his tours play the whole selling England by the pound album and The Foxtrot album complete. They were memorable concerts
Great reaction! Thanks Glenn and Adrian! He visto muy poco de Génesis de esa época, y fue años después, con el liderazgo de Phil Collins. Me parece excelente. Peter Gabriel es un artista en toda la extensión de la palabra.
SO bizarre! Genesis was very avant-garde with the face paint and the masks amazing. This restoration is fantastic, even full-screen. To put this in perspective Genesis was creative beyond compare.
1978. My buddy and I were so disappointed Steve had left, we almost didn't go. Kurt got drunk out of his mind and pretty much missed the show. Thankfully I did not. Best concert of my life. Chester was with them then and their drum duet got a very long standing ovation. The two of them blew my mind. The energy was off the chart. Maybe the best live band ever.
I think if I could go back in time to 1973 and see any concert from that era, it would be Genesis with Gabriel. There are a few rare performers who understand that when you are onstage, you are no longer in an ordinary mode or situation, you are within an elevated frame and this is what distinguishes performance energy from just carrying out the task of playing an instrument. There are music 'purists' who always claim that it should be all about the music and just the music. (Phil was probably like that back then) But if that is the case, why bother with a a stage, with lighting, in some vast arena sized venue? Why bother with playing live at all??When one witnesses a REAL performer, like David Bowie, Freddy Mercury, like David Byrne or Peter Gabriel, one understands exactly why that person is up there on a lighted stage and not sitting in a dark corner somewhere brooding over his guitar, feeling ashamed or embarrassed about being an artist. people come to live concerts wanting to sse something extraordinary, so give them something extraordinary. Guys like Bowie and Gabriel believed that, it wasn't about ego or flaunting oneself, but knowing that it is NOT a normal, ordinary situation to be onstage in front of thousands of people...wierd things happen, it brings out wierd unexpected things. Genesis were one of those wonderfully wierd things..

Thank you, Glenn and Adrian for bringing this extraordinary song to your channel during the best era of this great band.
I think the creepiness is essential in this.
One of my favorite bands. I have attended several Steve Hacket concerts.
Creepy! Glad I missed this back then, I might not have stuck around for the music! Loved the guitar solo......Mike's sound is so sweet! Thanks Guys!

Peter really getting into the character when he sings, it kinda reminds of someone i know that does that 😊

Phil looks like that mask now. Just kidding. So glad this is recorded.

The video for watcher of the skies from Midnight Special is not that good it is grainy, this one is nice and clear.
When Peter Gabriel and Steve Hacket left their progresive music era came to and end. Unfortunately.
