    A really great way to free up the metal balls in the bottle is by moving a magnet around the outside as a way to mix the polish without too much shaking

    Little fun fact (fun to me 😅) : heptane is mostly present in top coats, usually not in regular polishes.
    So the beauty secrets would be useful i guess for both top coats and creme formulas but yeah avoid in glitter polishes.

      So, is it OK to use it for all OPI nail polishes, with glitters too?

    • @nikigunn
      @nikigunn 7 місяців тому +1

      @sanjabojovic7440 OPI thinner is safe for most nail polishes. OPI thinner only has butyl acetate and ethyl acetate, which are the ingredients to look for. Off the top of my head, KB Shimmer and Holo Taco's thinners are also these same ingredients, so they would be fine too.
      Heptane is the one that stands out as damaging to glitters (dissolves plastic, which most glitter is, as I recall), and acetone is bad to use as a thinner in general. Don't use thinners with those to be on the safe side.

    • @sanjabojovic7440

    Kelli, thanks for the great tip about Heptane. I used Beauty Secrets thinner in two OPI polishes; Merry Crimson (has slight shimmer), and an old bottle of OPI Red. Both were ruined, they developed black clumps. So maybe avoid Heptane in general. Thanks for listing other thinners like the OPI, do not contain heptane. Suggestion for content: Would love more color comparisons in your swatch videos. Thanks for your great videos.

    You asked for product recommendations, and my #1 go-to is a mini-vortex mixer. My husband paints miniatures with acrylic paints. He bought a LabGenius MI0101001 Mini-Vortex Mixer from Amazon a year of so ago. It's pricy, but after using it for several months, I can't imagine not having it. You only need to hold the bottle of polish to the soft rubber of the machine for thirty seconds to a minute and it mixes the nail polish so thoroughly! I LOVE it.

    Polish Lab Rat had a great hack for cleaning nail polish bottles by folding the lint free wipe 2x and then cutting a small hole in the middle. She then soaked it in acetone, unfolded it so the hole in the middle opens then place the brush through the hole and close the bottle to clean the inside of the brush top and outside the polish bottle at the same time. I then take it off and clean off any remaining polish on the bottle which is so minimal. This made cleaning bottles so much less of a pain.

    I use the same thinner, it works with everything! Even incredibly glooped up quick dry top coats, I love it! another cool trick to free up the mixing balls is to use a magnet (like the ones for magnetic polishes). You can also move the balls around in the bottle with the magnet to unclump some stubborn spots.

I've been using it to thin down some of my Holo Taco glitter nail polishes and while it worked initially, the bottles are all gloopy and unusable right now =( Sucks that it was because of the heptane. I've found dripping the thinner on to the brush and letting it drip down into the bottle to work really well, or carefully on to the neck of the bottle if it's really crusty around there.
    I use the Orly thinner and it hasn't ruined any glitter polishes, as far as I can tell at least. Wanted to check what ingredients are in it but can't find any information about it.

    Hi Kelli! I actually just recently purchased the KB Shimmer thinner, so I’m glad to hear you approve of it. I have a question about thinning top coats. Most top coats don’t come with mixing balls (I assume to prevent air bubbles). If you have a top coat that’s getting thin towards the end of the bottle, do you recommend adding mixing balls when you put in the polish thinner, or is it best to just shake the heck out of it as-is? Thank you so much for your content - it brightens my day every time you have a new video or vlog!

    • @morgantremble
      @morgantremble 2 роки тому +4

      In one of her old videos she says she doesn’t recommend nail polish thinner in top coats - instead she combines a new bottle of the same brand/type of top coat with the old bottle to keep it perpetually “refreshed”! But idk if there is any risk associated with putting balls in top coats, I kinda assume brands don’t use them for a reason, but idk what that reason could be!

      I thin my top coats, and so far haven't had any issues with it. I don't add mixing balls, but instead let it sit with thinner for a bit, then shake the bottle and wait a while, until I see no more air bubbles. Sometimes I'll roll the bottle between my hands instead, and then let it sit for a while afterwards.

    Add the thinner to the polish on a protected surface. I stripped the color off of an old placemat. It could have done some damage to my table 😬

    Thank you for this!! I will definitely have to get that specific kind of thinner, I’ve been able to keep up with most of my collection but I have at least a few more difficult glitters and textured polishes ❤️

    Maniology now also has nail polish thinner. It contains only two ingredients (Butyl Acetate & Ethyl Acetate). No Heptane! 😄🥳🍀
    It's in my shopping cart right now and I'll combine it and some other items with my next Mani x Me Kit. I'm so happy! 😊

    Probably a stupid question: when you clean the inside of the cap, do you dip the Q-Tip in acetone, or do you use it dry? Regarding the fun fact, I think it would be fun to see your ideas for bullet journaling!

    Love this video!! Would this thinner be a good choice for all polishes in general? I have a holo taco polish that is a getting a little thick (I brought it to a nail appointment and I don’t think they closed the bottle right) it’s limited edition and an awesome color, so I was SUPER sad when I opened it and realized it has gotten thick 😭 I’ve been wanting to buy a thinner for when I would need it eventually

    When I have tried to clean the inside of my cap with a q-tip, I always get little fuzzies from the q-tip coming off and getting stuck in the cap. Do you have any advice about avoiding that? Are some brands less likely to shred?
    Thank you for this video! I didn't know that about the 3 ingredient removers, but fortunately for me I chose kbshimmer's thinner anyway. 😆

    • @KelliMarissa
      @KelliMarissa  Рік тому +2

      Certain brands have very stiff ends that don't really unravel/get fuzzy, but another option could be to buy lint free wipes (I know Orly sells packs of them!) and you can wipe that around the inside of the cap with a toothpick or orangewood stick!!

    • @eightmagpies

    In support of your hypothetical book review channel...there are so many ways you could mix it up. If there is a particular genre you know well, you could pick certain features of the genre and use examples from your favorite books to enlighten your viewers. Tier lists can be fun, especially goofy, subjective lists, like the best food descriptions, best "costumes," etc. Shipping characters is always fun, and it's a great conversation generator. Whatever direction you take it, you seem like a very creative, observant lady, and I'd love to see you having fun with a literature channel!

    Hi Kelli, thanks for this video! I have a question about it--i understand that glitters, flakes, and reflective glitters are plastic so I should use the two-ingredient thinner for those. But what are shimmers and multichromes? Are those also plastic components that would be ruined with three-ingredient thinner? I've googled it a bit, and it looks like shimmers are usually made with mica which is not a plastic, and duochrome "interference pigments" can be made from mica, aluminum oxide, silica flakes (which is rubber), and titanium/iron dioxide. So I'm thinking that three-ingredient thinner is probably ok (unless it also melts rubber), but I could use two-ingredient if I want to be extra-safe. Do you know anything about this?
