If you experience knee or ankle pain walk backwards until they stop hurting. Walking backwards up stairs or dragging something along the ground will build up your knees. Doing "toe lifts" or rather shin lifts with your butt against a wall to strengthen the shins will also do wonders for the knees and ankles, and even lower back. Toe lift means the forefoot lifts off the ground. This comprehensively deels with pain from ankle weights or high activity in general.

I also use them for skill moves etc. They are 2.5 lbs each, and the only thing I have experienced is a tiny bit of pain in my knee joints. Other than that I would definetly recommend using ankle weights for individual practice!!

Well, maybe you don't believe this, but they make me exceptionally faster. I can see and feel the difference in my speed when I take them off, especially much quicker.

I have tried it, my friend :) All of this is simply my opinion. Obviously the best thing to do is try it out for yourself and if you start getting pains or indications of injury, ease off. Some people swear by it, some have been injured from it.
It's really up to you, but like I said, be careful. You aren't trying to develop strength through using them. Unless you are planning on doing leg raises and knee extensions with them like I went over
