@@mrxmry3264
I remember that whole trucker thing from the 70s when everyone had a CB Radio in their cars. I was just a kid back then, but I can still remember most of the cars we had, and every one of them, as far back as I can remember, had a CB. What I don't know though, is whether or not Dad was removing from one when he sold his car and transplanting it into another, or if they were widespread enough that people were just leaving them in and selling it with the car, and banking that their next car would most likely have one. From what I can remember though, it seems like there were never any visual differences, so I think he was pulling the radio from one car and installing it in his next. I should say van though, because most of his vehicles were either trucks or vans, but in keeping with his job, it was usually a van. We spent a LOT of time working together in them. He was a driver for the regional newspaper, and I had my own walking route. We would leave home around 3AM, go to the plant and load his van with bundles of newspapers for the carriers to distribute to their customers. I remember all of his vans had a bulkhead behind the seats, which made it very easy to stack and organize the bundles in the correct order of his route. He also had some vending machines to keep stocked every day and retrieve the money from the coin tray. What we did was send a bundle of newspapers out the window of the van, offset to one side of the driveway or the other, and we'd hit a certain point in his route where it was time for me to get out and deliver my own paper route, complete with the white canvas bag with the bright orange shoulder strap. I would start in one area, and we had it worked out that I would be finishing my route and he would be dropping his bundles out the window from a different part of his route, at roughly the same time, usually within five minutes one way or the other. Once we met up again, there wasn't really much left to his route... a few vending machines, and about a half dozen or so bundle drops left. He was working a day job as a mechanic for Bell Telephone, and driving the papers around all night every night used to kill off a van in about a year or so, so he was always in the loop about which vans Bell was getting ready to retire, so there was always a two to three year old van coming up, and he was always able to get his hands on one. It also didn't hurt that I know he was the mechanic there, so it gave him the opportunity to go through it, change the oil and transmission fluid, tune up, new shocks, grease the front end and the U-joints, full brake job on all four corners, make sure all the lights worked, etc. The only thing he wasn't permitted to do was new tires or any major components like the engine, transmission or rear end. If he wanted new tires, they were on his dime. Everything else, the company was willing to pay for it before he took it over. I remember him installing a CB in the one he got, because I was there when he was pulling the CB from his old van and putting it in the new used one, which we used to listen to at night dropping newspaper bundles. As far as the car Mum drove, I think he was transplanting the radio from one to another. And after all this middle of the night fun shit, I had to be home in time to go to school and he had to be done and ready to go to work at Bell Telephone. Wow, it's been a long time since I thought about all that! Fun times!

I've seen truckers do this before. The right lane is ended up ahead, so these 2 trucks get together to prevent anybody from driving to the front of the line and then merging. As they get closer to the lane closure the truck on the left will let the truck on the right merge in front of him.
The irony is that it is most efficient if people use the entire length of the merging lane to merge rather than everybody forming one great big line.
Yeah... in this case these truckers are idiots.
in this case i think the truck drivers saved their self some time by doing this even though it should have not been done
What are you talking about? the merging is done on the two left lanes not in the right one which is closed due to an accident or something. What if he had just merged onto the highway?
It's actually way less efficient to merge early. From a traffic engineering perspective you want people merging as late as possible, so you are making as much use of the two lanes as possible, only going down to one in the shortest stretch possible. But it is a well know that physiologically drivers will not do this because it feels like "cheating" to not merge early. There are some areas which use "No early merging signs". Doesn't seem to help.
It's an interesting situation where everyone collectively trying not to be selfish actually makes things worse for everyone.
They are both truckers and hungarians at the same time, expecting them to understand traffic fluidity (or basic decency at least) is like expecting a dog to fly you to the moon
Merging at the last second is more efficient, but if you have ever driven a large vehicle, you would understand that cars can move faster and break faster and force there way in front of the large vehicles all day long. Sometimes the safest thing for the large vehicles to do is block the lane. Fyi, most places have laws stating that it is illegal to use a merging lane for passing.
You want them to merge as late as possible as fast as possible? Makes perfect stupid sense to me.
I'd fully disagree. Merging early while there's time, and space would help prevent any bottleneck traffic buildups. It's too help put cars in a single file early enough to prevent congestion.
However, most people don't abide by the rules of the road, and wait till the last second. Or try to do what the guy in the Mercedes was trying to do. Jump in front of the pack, and squeeze in the front of the line. Creating more congestion.
I'd argue that it can also slow down traffic as well by merging late. It creates a bottle neck at the front where everyone is forced to go at turtleneck speeds to allow someone to merge every other car. If drivers actually merged incrementally at the flow of traffic instead of at the end, traffic would, essentially, never slow down. (Guy above me explained the same thing.)
It's not bullying, it's called queuing. As a truck driver, I have stopped loads of cars from pushing / bullying their way in front.

But in life, there are always people who do not respect the law, etc. There´s nothing you can do about this and if you want (or if your ego lets you) to ease the situation, you should not block the road like this (which I think is illegal too) and just let the drivers who are so much in a hurry go. By the way, it´s always very few drivers who use the breakdown lane like this so it makes almost zero difference for you in the end. And sometimes they get fined anyway - by an institution called "police".

You may call it ego, I call it being a civalised society.
@@kevt3318 In a civilised society, people behave tolerantly to each other. If you block the road like this, you increase the risk of road rage which, in this case, is not necessary at all. You should carry on driving correctly and set example to young drivers, for example. By the way, you never know what is happening in the car, the driver might be taking someone to hospital urgently and because of your obsession with sticking to the rules at any rate, they might not get medical care in time.
Truckers show how to make a traffic jam 1 km longer. There is a big fine for such behaviour here in Poland.
Here in the USA too. If i seen a truck doing this I would pull them over and issue them a impeding traffic violation and reckless driving on top of it.
Now when the truck driver asks me how come i did not pull over the car, I would explain if the car would of passed the truck driver using the shoulder then the car would of been pulled over for illegal use of shoulder for passing. But since the truck driver did not allow that to happen, the car did not break any laws. so only the truck driver did.

The real question is why no one ahead is using the right lane and why this trucker is closing it off for everyone behind? This lane doesn't look damaged or anything, it just ends one kilometer further according to the description - that's a reason to drive on it for 1km and then merge into the next lane, not to block it.
Such behaviour proves that multiple lane roads shouldn't exist because people are too dumb to use them.
But come on, is there a completely free lane ahead of the truck? 0:37 In that case its blocking a road making jam longer. such truckers should be eliminated
Obviously a Mercedes or Audi driver wasn't the driver trying to to pass on the hard shoulder cock
No it's not. Just putting everyone on the line. If the trucker doesn't block the right lane , cars and trucks on left would wait very long to pass the bottleneck.
The trucker is being a gentleman in this case....looking out for people on the left.
What kind of illogical bollocks is that. In every civilized country you use BOTH lanes until road narrows. And in most of EU countries this is a law, not practice. These idiots simply blocked the road because they know NOTHING about traffic fluency and can’t understand that by pushing everyone to one lane you effectively double the traffic jam length.
Mister EU man , are you saying that from the point where the truck is blocking the lane ....all the way to the front where it narrows , traffic is worse with 1 lane congested rather than2 lanes congested?
Traffic might get worse behind the truck but why would i care ?
They can go by EU laws behind my truck lol.

The part where you say you don’t care is exactly the problem of the truck driver. He simply doesn’t care about anything else than himself.

Where does the Merc think he's going to get? Two lorries in front, that is it. Still in a que
Looks like an acute case of testosterone poisoning. Not sure how traffic laws in Hungary are treating zip rule violations, but in many other EU countries blocking a line like this is a hefty fee on its own. Mercedes driver had no business to use a highway shoulder to overtake him, but the truck driver had even less right to deliberately endanger him by forcing him to the unpaved part of the shoulder. Again not sure about laws in Hungary, but in other European countries this could mean a fee in thousands of EUR and losing of a driver license for the truck driver, therefore no particularly smart behavior from someone who's livelihood depends on that document.

They have whole paragraph about this exact situation.
"Governments hold campaigns to promote the late merge method because irritation and aggression are common among drivers who are not educated about the benefits of the technique, sometimes including straddling lanes to block late mergers. Often drivers who change lanes too early do not like to see other drivers continue until the end of the drop-away lane, even though this late merging is encouraged by the authorities"
