If you find yourself in the situation where your Google TV Chromecast becomes stuck in a boot loop (The Google G logo screen followed by the animated multi-colour rectangular frame screen and then an automatic reboot back to the Google G logo screen and so on and so forth) the method to factory data reset the device that is found on the web may not function for you (for example, holding the button down never changes the white light to yellow). This video will show you how I managed to factory reset my Google Chromecast with Google TV HD GA03131-CA after I locked myself out of the device through disabling required system apps and services (oops : )
Mind you, this process was not instantaneous: I had to repeat the process a few times before I was able to arrive at the Android Recovery screen. This process requires 2 hands (or two people: one to work the button on the device and the other to work the power source). Hold the button on the device until it clicks, and continue to hold it down. While you hold down said button, cut the power feed to the Chromecast (disconnect either the USB-C connector, the USB-A connector, or unplug the wall charger). While STILL holding down the button, reconnect the power source. The blue-white light should change to orange - continue to hold down the button until the light changes back to white. Once the light changes from orange to white, let go of the button. This process will most likely bring you to a screen that reads "no command" and a green Android robot will be pictured lying on his back with his chest open. Now, on the "no command" screen, AGAIN hold down the small button. The white light should again change to amber. Continue to hold the button until the light changes back to white and release the button. If this brings you to the Android Recovery screen, RELEASE THE BUTTON IMMEDIATELY! However, if it does not, repeat the holding of the button until the white light changes to amber and then back to white, and then release the button (repeat as many times as necessary).
Once at the Android Recovery screen, ensure that the button is NOT being held. Quick clicks of the button will allow you to scroll the selector to the WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET option. Once WIPE DATA/FACTORY RESET has been selected, press and hold the small button to accept to factory reset the device. As soon as the screen changes, RELEASE THE BUTTON IMMEDIATELY! On the next "Wipe all user data?" screen, quick-click the button to move the highlight down to the FACTORY DATA RESET option and then again hold down the button in order to accept to factory reset your device. As soon as the screen changes, RELEASE THE BUTTON IMMEDIATELY! White text will populate the bottom of the screen. Once it reads "Data wipe complete" at the bottom, you can then long-press the button to select REBOOT SYSTEM NOW (release the button once the Chromecast reboots). Upon reboot, you should progress from the Google G logo screen to the animated multi-color square-frame screen, and then with time (be patient and wait), to the initial setup screen.
