The Chromecast with Google TV isn't just the newest Chromecast, it completely changes what a Chromecast IS. But is it good enough to take on an Android TV box like the Nvidia SHIELD TV?

This... I hate the Ridge wallet so much... It's fascinating how it's actually a condescending product, they cater to and abuse ignorant people. If you want that type of wallet for some reason, you buy the OG version off of Alibaba for a fraction of the price (yes, the Ridge is a clone). The cost of production is almost certainly under ten dollars, you're paying for millions of dollars worth of marketing instead of an actual wallet. I've been using mine daily for a month, and I love it. The remote can switch the tv's hdmi channel, handle the volume, and the voice recognition (on the remote itself) accross all the connected streaming platforms is spotless. I live in Canada and Google TV was the only device that somehow allowed me to sign up AND download HBO Max. I had to use a credit card for purchase of membership but that's it. It has access to almost every app and the interface is simple and clean. Its not the fastest and sometimes is a bit laggy in menu but those minor complaints are heavily outweighed by its functionality. I bought a Nvidia Shield Pro and it could not access HBO Max even with VPN. So I've officially switched to this one and its been pretty reliable. For 50 bucks I've just bought one for every TV in the house.

@@Bizzare77777 I haven't tried, tbh. I will caveat that these are cheaper but the rule of 'you get what you pay for' still rings true. Ads did not cover a quality product. They still cheaped out a bit on the hardware and software. It does bug out a lot and it gets worse over time. I am using a Apple 4K TV in one room and Google TV in another. I would gladly pay more for the Apple TV again. It works. No bugs and the quality and connectivity is very good.

Considering Chromecasts are the only good option for streaming Oculus Quests, I would have really appreciated if you tested the casting performance on the new Google TV Chromecast, to see if it's higher hardware gives better picture quality and response rate. Especially since the third rev Chromecast is over 2 years old now and couldn't handle 4K, that extra hardware likely makes a difference.

Casting my phone's display is actually slightly better but still a lot of lag.
I can't recommend this to anyone unless they just want to stream netflix etc but this has no benefit over a roku or firestick then.
Going to try with an ethernet adapter because I suspect the issue is with upload bandwidth rather than download within the local network. Only problem is I don't know if my phone and chromecast will even see each other as ethernet devices.

I finally got a Stadia Premier Edition with the purchase of Cyberpunk and I have to say, I honestly feel spoiled by Stadia now. Games like The Division 2 run EXTREMELY faster and smoother than it ever did on my XBox, not to mention, the graphics looks incredible! I even played the game side by side with my Xbox to see the differences and they were clearly showing. I was officially convinced to purchase another month of Stadia, including a month of Ubisoft+ to give me more of a variety of games to play. Every game I played on Stadia has ran the way you expect a game to run, but better than it would run on a console. Stadia really shows that streaming is the future for gaming.
Yes, the first year for Stadia has been bad, I also was one of the people that talked down on Stadia, but now that I moved out and got better internet, Stadia works like a charm! I’m hooked and I’m going to be staying with Stadia.

It has worked great at my house with 100mbps Max. Although, at my sister's or mom's house, who have over 200mbps, it’s unstable. I tried both Ethernet and wifi. Some do and it's excellent, I just wish LTT did as well.

I tried stream it from a NAS but it keeps lagging very badly. So I bought the PD charger, PD usb hub and cable, got the cast running only to see that it doesnt recognize the exterbal HDD which is NTFS. So you're stuck with maximum file size of 4 GB which is pointless for 4K. You should bear this in mind when you buy it. Alternatively I bought MiBox wich has build-in USB port with native NTFS support. The GoogleTV blows it out in raw speed though!

Just finished cancelling my cable bill and switched to youtube tv and was setting it up to work with the chromecast when this linus vid popped up in my recommended, perfect timing. Honestly Im not a big fan of streaming services but I finally bit the bullet on youtube tv because it was 10$ less and gave a lot more features than cox did. Not trying to advertise but heres some things I really like about it already.
    1. Unlimited DVR, you can just set up to record every single show you like and you get any episode thats played on live tv. It can also record an infinite amount of channels at once and all of the data is stored on their servers not your hard drive. So basically you can get terabytes of tv recordings
    2. You can fast forward any tv recordings some other services dont let you do this which is messed up to begin with
    3. They have a decent movie selection, its nothing amazing but its got actual good movies and not mostly b list junk, its nice to add to the rotation of hulu and netflix now.
    4. Up to three people can use it at the same time, before I would need a cable box in each room which costs an extra 10$ a month per cable box, it also lets you use personal accounts like netflix does.
    5. You can use it on any device. If your device supports youtube it supports youtube tv obviously. Now I can watch live tv anywhere with wifi (or if I want to eat through my phone data) instead of being stuck at the cable box.
Overall so far I give it a 8/10 I just wish it was still 50 a month not a fan of the price hike but its still cheaper than my cable was for 75. Looking forward to getting it working with chromecast so I can just lazily tell my tv what to play.

I love my Chromecast with Google TV, but they really need to make a Pro version with more storage, more RAM and a faster processor. I bought one several months ago because the 70" LG 4k TV I have in my living room was one of their cheapest 30hrz models of 2016 (I got it on heavy discount in 2017) & the processor in it lags hard when streaming content with post processing turned on ... plus LG's pre-ThinQ interface sucks ... my solution was to offload all of the streaming tasks to this chrome cast, so that the limited brains of the TV only have to work on post processing. Yes I could upgrade to a newer/better model, but I don't need to waste the money & generate more E-waste when this one still works just fine. The chrome cast itself works good, but that suppository grade remote is a joke compared to the magic wand remote that came with my LG CX PC monitor & I wish I could find a 3rd party one that could run my TV, Chrome cast, and sound bar all at the same time.

    • @AlexShaw
      @AlexShaw 2 роки тому +1

@@radiatorninja7149 I think what is happening now though is more important. They are looking to sell the stadia software directly to game developers which means the Devs can sell games directly without having to go through Microsoft/Sony store and pay their fees (not saying that still won't but they are least have another option). This is even more important to poor countries that can't afford £500 games consoles. Buy allowing Devs to sell direct even if it is just to poor countries allows for another revenue stream. If they do sell in the West then the fact that get skip the stores puts money directly in their pocket and takes it from Sony etc. But by also getting Devs to code games to sell direct on a white label platform they will also automatically work on stadia meaning more games. Why have a studio making crap games at a high price when you can sell software to Devs who they make games for free.
