- The small island of Lundy, situated in the Bristol Channel, was one of the destinations for BBC West's Day Out series in 1978. Presenter Gwyn Richards sailed across to explore the tiny village and included a stop off at Lundy's post office - the home of the oldest private postal service in the world.
Clip taken from Day Out: Ilfracombe and Lundy, originally broadcast on BBC One (South West), Tuesday 17 October, 1978.

Just as i remembered it. we were there that year. i was nine. One of my fav places in the world. Took my kids back there a few years ago. It hasn't changed that much. they loved it too.
Lets go to Lundy
My mate, Solomon Grundy was born on Lundy.
On a Monday?
Is he related to Bill Grundy - sex pistols 'go on say a rude word......'?
Was he born on Sunday or Monday? You know Solomon like.😊

It’s a charming place, but do yourself a favour: If you’re going on a day trip, fly by helicopter from Hartland Point.
My parents were there in 1960 while on their honeymoon! I've often wondered what it was like to visit - this was a pleasant and well produced piece. Thank you.
I was 12 years old in 1978 . I guess UA-cam is about the closest thing we have to time travel ....so far
and everyone wore flares! I really enjoyed watching that... life was lived at a slower pace back then...
Mental note taken for the forthcoming 'zombie apocalypse' or *similar (TM).
Looked lovely in the 70s - I wonder what it's like now...🤔
Probably got a Starbucks on it!
@@gingerwoods616 Yeah... how sad.
@@gingerwoods616I went several years ago - there's no Starbucks. Still looks very similar
Mass uncontrolled immigration
@jamesmack6374 Oh, that's good to know! I haven't visited Britain since pre-pandemic, so next time I do I might take in Lundy too...
There's a Starbucks, KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Greggs and JD Wetherspoon pub on Lundy now.
I do hope you are joking! 😃
You forgot to mention Barclays Bank, Boots the chemist and Timpson’s Shoe repairs and key cutting.
I also fogot to mention the Premier Inn and Lundy Trump Golf & Country Club. The island is certainly more busy, developed, and gentrified since they built the North Devon to Lundy King Charles III Bridge.
all those shoes ruined by seawater when alighting! the sun and bikini-clad swimmers made me wonder what temperature it was....probably only about 17C or so!
According to one of the bikini clad swimmers it was quite warm that day
