PS1 XSTATION INSTALL, PLAY ALL PS1 GAMES FROM SD CARD
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- Today we're going to be installing the Xstation mod in a PS1. It's an optical drive emulator for the playstation 1. it removes the original CD drive and replaces it with an SD card slot, so you can load all your games onto an SD card, instead of using your PS1 discs. it doesn't work on every playstation one, I'm using the PU-18 motherboard revision.

@@RETROGAMINGARTS hello. Good video. Do you know the ps3 jailbreak? This is for information about gta online. I am in dex cfw rebug cobra. Thank you.
Nice. This is a lifesaver for ps1s that are becoming harder to get in good condition.
It really is. Disc drives dying left and right too
@@RETROGAMINGARTS very true.
I've got one in good condition for sale lol
Or one in good condition for a good price. Like, I saw an ad here on YT of Ebay for a Resident Evil 1 Director's Cut disk new, still sealed with cellophane, for TWO THOUSANDS EUROS! REALLY?? 🤨
Thankfully mine is still ok. I have a gen 1 Original PS1.
Ten year-old me would flip the shit out by having the power to play every single game at one click haha

@@RETROGAMINGARTS Would this be possible on ps2?
@@EyefyourGf On the PS2, you only need a memory card with freemcboot, and a hard drive adapter for your expansion slot :) I've recently installed mine, it's awesome. There are many tutorials online on how to do it.
You can also use a modbo modchip and put an internal harddrive (on the fat version)
@@EyefyourGf As said above, the PS2 doesn't need that because there is the FMCB for PS2 memory cards. So you have a lot of options to play games using internal HDD (the best option, but only for FAT version), USB HDD or Ethernet.
awesome, now no need to flip the console upside-down when game unable to run
Omg, until you mentioned that I'd forgotten about it. Only way to make my games work.
Is it work on ps2 bro?
This guy is missing ingredients for soldering and is actually damaging the chips the board and the metal. I just wanted to let everyone know so if you try this and start a fire or damage your board, it's because this guy is doing it wrong. I'm not saying what he's doing will not work, I'm saying the process he is using is incorrect.
@@robcabob1og So what you're saying is that yea it'll work in the end but he's actually causing damage to the board? What ingredients is he missing exactly? Sorry for all the questions, you mentioning this caught my attention since I'm just starting to get into this hobby of modding/soldering.

Hence making this mod pretty much pointless when PS1 is pretty easy to emulate, but I guess some people do this for interest or boredom reasons 🤷🤷
You could have alternatively used the PSIO SD flash cart adapter mod to play games, and it would have preserved your CD drive for when you would want to play physical media aswell.
Stay tuned to my channel to see a install of that, I did a video about it a while back, but gunna do another

Great! Good, im glad, this mod is so good, been playing it past few days ita awesome
Muy chulo pero la gracia de jugar en una playstation autentica es jugar con CD, meter el CD, escuchar el ruido del CD etc. En otras palabras, viajar al pasado. Si le quitas eso para usar un tarjeta SD se convierte en un emulador más.
It is awesome what you did but the point of to play on a genuine Playstation is to play with a CD, to insert the CD, to listen the CD sound, etc. In other words, go back to the past. If you play with a SD card is like to play on an emuletor.
I wish it was that easy for the Saturn.
It is that easy for the Saturn, just 3 times more expensive lol
@@RETROGAMINGARTS 3x more expensive is never easy 😆😆😆😆🤑

It's very east when you know what you are doing. I followed this guide and other and it the xstation wont boot. Probably because I did not solder correctly.
You are a master ......excellent tks friend's
It seems cool to run the games fast from a flash driver, not everyone can fix the CD drive to run smooth and an SD card seems to be a good thing, BUT the consoles become something cold, lifeless without the remarkable sound of the optical drive reading and the rotor spinning. It falls on the realm of an emulator experience, which you can do in almost any device without needing any invasive mod on an old console.
why rid off CD rom, if someone want both to work , SD + CD ROM is it possible?
Then maybe the PSIO mod is the way to go.
PSIO retains use of the disk drive but has compatibility issues with some games. X-Station has better compatibility.
Source; I own both.
Amazing work 👍🏻

So I have some questions regarding this device.
1. What's the largest size of SD Card this device supports?
2. How does it handle multi-disc games? Would it automatically find the next disc and load it in for you or would you have to manually do something?
3. Does this let you play games from outside your region or would that require a separate mod?
4. How well do the games, especially their FMVs, actually run, are they choppy?

I have the same setup with my ps1, the gray color sd card mount. Just think if we painted the microsd and sd adapter gray. It would be completely invisible unless you really looked closely at it. Can't wait for the 1TB cards to drop down in price, hello NTSC-U, PAL and NTSC-J.
Has anyone ever used a massive ps1 memory card? I have a 96 page 1440 save games card. Only figured out how to work it last year and I've had that card for about two decades. It can only change pages in the ps1 memory card manager with the following:
Hold L1, R1 and Start together and a red dot should show on the card. If the dot appears release L1 and R1 while still holding Start, then press L1 or R1 to move the pages left or right (backwards or forward) iirc it can be held down to advance much faster down the pages. Release the buttons to select the page and it will start a countdown timer to prepare navigation of the next data page.
Once that is completed the new page should be displayed on the led window.
Cheers!
Now you got me looking for grey paint... and hold up. WHAT ABOUT THIS MEMORY CARD??? can you link me google image of it or tell me its exact name so I can buy one LOL
@@RETROGAMINGARTS sure thing: www.amazon.com/PSX-Playstation-Memory-Card-PS1-PS2/dp/B00000K4YJ ebay occasionally has those too i believe there is also a 720 save version.
Be advised some games don't like saving to this card.
I'm in the process of creating an alphabetical list of game saves for all the ntsc games. I'm currently on page 22 of 96.
Anything that fails gets marked at the top of the list and will be retried with a standard 15 block card eventually.
Gonna eventually purchase two more of those 1440 cards for my brother and sister. Then I'll get two more xstations and three hdmi kits, as well as completely recap the power supply and motherboards. It'll be the ps1 that might outlive us and end up in a museum. ;-)

Great Work!
I can't wait for the playstation 2 version.
There's ps2 HDD mods for it. It's like this, but with a hardrive
You need a memory card with an exit and a hard drive for the fat PS2, cost me about £16 for everything. No soldering or taking the system apart.
@@RETROGAMINGARTS but a similar SD modification in the disc drive of the slim PS2 would be a life & space saver.
works with a nintendo nes ?
This is perfect. No mechanical problems on read CD + the fact that actually is not emulating any game
Still cheaper to buy a whole drive unit and easier then this to replace. I had to replace one in 15 years and looks like the new one will work another at least 15 years. The only benefit I see in this and worth the money is loading times of the games because the SD I think it's far faster then the regular drive. Granted if you have the right quality made SD otherwise it's worse then dealing with a broken unit.
@@weirdsailorman4070 It probably won't load faster than from CD, because there's a limitation in the console itself. Even if you run games from ISOs in an emulator it still loads it as slow as it was on a real machine. It doesn't really matter if I have SSD or HDD. Loading time is still as slow as from CD on a real console. The only emulator I use that has drive speed boost is an Amiga emulator FS-UAE that can speed up virtual floppy drive to 800% or even faster called 'Turbo mode'. The problem is that some games freak out and crash the emulated Amiga. 💡
And I think it's more reasonable solution over CD drive, because it's convinient having all your games in the console than having to deal with CD swapping and original games that are reaching absurd prices because of those coomlectors that use the original games as room decoration. 🤐
@@weirdsailorman4070 even tho the SD is faster than the laser the PS1 still have like 6mb of Ram and a 32mhz CPU... the laser can read much faster than the CPU can process that information. so putting an SD dosent make it faster. that said... the idea is really good. having all your favorite games on 1 SD card its really cool. because lets face it... burning CDs is a pain in the ass....

Your audio sounds clear man. Was your editing process "smoother?" Cause I know sometimes that can be tedious. Also that's sick on the ps1. I still use my psp for ps1 games. But some games like mutant academy 2 don't work on a modded psp for some reason, so having the original hardware might work better
Does it? Good im glad, the changes didn't so much help speed up the editing process. They helped with the setup process, I always had to change settings and plug in the mic for every video. Now I can just leave it on the way its setup and it will always sound good, and yea. Psp works great for ps1 games. I love it, I didn't know that about mutant academy
@@RETROGAMINGARTS well I'm glad you back to being able to make stuff. And yeah it was a game I had when I was younger and enjoyed playing the crap out of it. It was a disappointment when it didn't work when I modded my psp
Although I haven't touched my PSP in a long time so I don't know if this is still helpful, but...
The PSP's PS1 emulation software used to change from Firmware to Firmware, breaking or fixing compatibility with certain user made eboots.
There used to be a plugin called PopsLoader which allowed you to extract the PS1 emulator from different Firmware installation files and then choose different emulators when booting a PS1 game on PSP.
You might get your game to work by trying a different Firmware's PS1 emulator.

Nice job Paul. Awesome to see how much your channel has grown!! 👏 👏
Thanks Kris, thanks for all the help over the years, I deeply appreciate it.
Little bit squeamish watching this: you should heat the solder, not the pad and you use the tip, not the rim and you never EVER wipe against the board -- you use less solder than you think you need and you always let the surface-tension do the work for you! I'm gonna assume the camera was giving you trouble/in the way while you were working - that's not a condition I've ever had to work under, so I don't envy you. Excellent use of flux tho. More is better and it totally compensates any risk this technique has on the board. Good stuff. Good video and great tutorial though. Subscribed.
This made it seem reasonable enough for someone with somewhat intermediate soldering skills. Thanks for the video!
I wouldn't try it , the odds to damage your board is 98.9% . Just buy second hand chinese android tablet ,installl Fpse , and here you go , you can play psx games from your tablet sd card
Shouldn't it in theory be possible to just plug an modboard to the CD drive's connectors, instead of modifying the whole hardware?
Considering all 3 sd card reader options for the ps1 (mode. Xstation. Psio) need some sort of modification to the board. I don't think it's as simple as let's say the dreamcast, where it's just plug and play. The engineers behind these products know the ins and outs of how the system functions better than I do. But if no modification was needed I think 1 of the 3 teams wouldof figured it out by now. The psio, witch uses the parallel port on the back needs a SMALL modification, just 8 wires, I did a video about that a while back, check that one out to see the difference
Thank you for watching this by the way. And thank you for checking out my channel. I deeply appreciate it.
i now have the ps1 with the xstation, and for some of you that dont know this when you use cheat device rom's some cheat device rom's may not like some games when you go to use the cheats while other cheat device rom's will like that game, its a good idea to mess around with the cheat device rom's to see which one works for your game (PLEASE NOTE JUST LIKE YOUR GAME YOU MUST LEGALLY OWN THE CHEAT DEVICE YOU ARE MESSING AROUND WITH) i bought a few of them on ebay it wont matter what condition they are in as long as you own it
Very cool video. Need to do this to my two PU18s. They work fine now. But those lasers won't last forever. It seems this upgrade also acts as a modchip, right? Oh btw it is INCREDIBLY ironic to see a Samsung memory card going into a PS1. This console dates back to the era when Samsung effectively declared war on Sony and vowed to drive them out of the consumer electronics business, which they largely did except for the PlayStation and a handful of other things. That Samsung SD card is like planting an enemy flag right in Sony's eye. I love it. No hate people. They're just competitive companies and we consumers benefit when they slug it out to make the best stuff. Even now, Samsung uses Sony cameras in their smartphones, because they are the best in the world. Both companies lift each other higher.
Does this work with me slim version of PlayStation, the Psone?
Nope..someone got the psio to work on the PSone, but with SERIOUS and very heavy modification.

Literally what is the point in this? If your going to completely remove the ability to boot discs, why not use an emulator? And $100 to break your console?
oooOOOOOOH
Been very much interesting in getting myself a psx and getting into modding for it, though I'm mostly familiar with softmodding consoles and dont even trust myself with soldering. Do they sell already modded psx consoles with this mod? and would it also be possible to do this mod for, say, a psone combo pack (the one that came with its own lcd screen)?
People are able to buy and/or craft rom and ram chips these days. I certainly hope that one day it will become somewhat feasible to craft old CPU and graphics chips. People seem to have read/reversed everything that goes into them, it's just not feasible to make a chip like that. But one day, if it is, people could essentially recreate real hardware. Sure, Sony would likely come after it, but like most other forms of bringing old hardware back to life, people should still do it. Especially since the companies themselves don't care about it.
I need this mod for PSone, the slim version.
Don't have it yet, someone may be working on it, its theoretically possible, just ALOT ALOT ALOT more work
Is there some similar mod exist, but for PS2? FreeMC Boot stuff with that ISO loaders from that silly USB 1.1 isn't counting.
I can't do this stuff, I'd break things for sure. Would you upgrade my PlayStations? Can you fix my PlayStation 2? What if I just donate them?
