I was blown away by this 3 piece band in 1973 when I was 20 and 41 years later I still enjoy there amazing sound!!! I was left almost deaf for 2 days after seeing them...totally brilliant!!!
I to was blown away when I first saw them play at the Tricorn in Portsmouth back in 1972,so much power from a 3 piece band, still to this day I never tyre of listening to there music.Never turn your back on a friend has to be my fav Album fav track Pareents.
I'm a 100% on your "underrated" statement. As to the "how they never got big," their songs were too long for radio and their faces, well, just not quite made for tv.
i went along to many gigs on tour with ray phillips in the early 90s with tredegar , ray if you see this its your old roadie from the valleys nigel :) plus burke shelly played at my 18th with the superclarkes budgie are the kings :)))
Saw Budgie in 2005 in a bar in Newcastle and they were unreal, I knew I was in for a quality night because I had been listening to them since I was 8 years old 'and still listening by the way' I'm 45 now but Christ what a night! My twin brother walked into the toilets for a piss and there was Burke having a piss too! Lol he says to this day he had a piss along side the great Burke Shelley! brilliant
I used to do the very same thing, now I listen to everything through my hearing-aides. Just please try to enjoy the tunes at decent level. Don't destroy your hearing. It never comes back once its gone!
My favorite rock band for sure! I’m grateful to have seen them in a club in San Francisco when they came out with MELT THE ICE AWAY. Not sure if it was 1977 or 1978. There was no more than 200 people my guess?
Up until I discovered Burgie on UA-cam ( about 3 days ago) I always thought that Rush and ZZ top were the best 3 piece rock bands in the universe. Now I feel ignorant and dumbfounded. Burgie fucking rules man!!!
Zeppelin was a definite influence on the genre at the time. I wouldn't call it copying so much as absorbing. Like it or not, everything a human creates is influenced by something else at some point. Even Ronnie James Dio once said it had been "a Zeppelin World" at that time. But better to have music influenced by that as opposed to, ohh, Poison! Either way, Budgie still rocks!
I was a prog rocker, all things Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, then there was Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, BUT I needed Budgie just as much to provide that hard core, hard rocking balance. They were pioneers and very much underrated. Their contributions still to this day are criminally disregarded by those who think they know about this great age of music, but they don't.
One of the best 3 piece band going. Pity they lost Tony, he was a key factor in the sound of them. Guts never sounded better since Tony played it. Great riff. One to equill Tony Iommi's riffing .
Budgie could rock their own way, I have no clue why they needed to resort to this level of imitation. Even more shameful than ripping off Zeppelin was how they ripped off Rush so many years before Rush was formed.
+pete mugfordLast Funny I always thought Badfinger put Whales on the Musical landscape Map I love Budgie but There is noway They put whales on the musical map BADFINGER did with 6 major hit records Come & get It , No Matter What , Without You, babY Blue , Day after Day & Apple Of My Eye

No posing etc etc...and they were so fucken brilliant. Plenty have ripped them off. There's no comparison. FFS, Burke could also sing like Shirley Bassey, FFS.

One of the most underated bands in the world, how they never got as big as other bands back then is beyond me. 😊🤘

This song is just vile…..I love it!
Being a music lover who here's another song in a song a lot... this just sounds like an awesome slow blues tune. There is only one Budgie!
Jimmy Page wishes he could play as well. Awesome guitar, awesome band. Can't grow tired of listening to these guys. They're what is right with music.
Neither can I. I've been listening to them since the very beginning. A very underrated band, indeed!

This is PROTO-grunge. It is blues-based hard rockness with an alternative* edge to it. It's simply wonderful... Fuck all the debate
I grew up with my best friend Tony he introduced me to bodgie glow in the dark poster s weed 70 won't for get hold in my heart forever
Yes and Parents, one of my favs.

Wow!
"What if we played a bunch of recycled blues riffs but made them more sonically imposing and in your face than anyone else to date?"
Tony Bourge is a monster, riffer.

Budgie could rock their own way, I have no clue why they needed to resort to this level of imitation. Even more shameful than ripping off Zeppelin was how they ripped off Rush so many years before Rush was formed.

Its a shame Shelly sacked drummer Ra\y Phillips - all due respect to this one, but it was the beginning of deviation from a great original HM sound.
A Budgie is a bird that sits on top of a rhinoceros and eats the poop from the rhino's back...
Wow - what came first? Dazed and Confused or this amazing piece from Budgie?
Dazed and Confused came out a few years earlier. Budgie's inspired by it as evident by the name also but the track's quite different.
Dazed and Confused came out in 1969, this is from 1974.
Budgie Fried Dazed n Confuzed
On 5:21 till the rest sounds like Shook Me also by Zeppelin (:
No it doesn't it's a much older blues standard riff before Zep was ever formed. Zep had similar Blues influences in their music. as did Budgie.
Like they said in Breadfan. All that money and I don't need it. Made awesome music for the love of making music.
