Possibly the best rock song ever by the best and most underrated rock band of all time! The soundtrack of my youth, I saved all of my weekend job money to buy all of their albums (kids today, yes we had to take weekend jobs rather than relying on handouts from our parents)... A band with some of the most imaginative and creative song titles of all time - who could forget 'Crash Course in Brain Surgery', 'Nude Disintegrating Parachutist Woman', 'Hot as a Docker's Armpit', 'In The Grip of a Tyrefitter's Hand', 'You're the Biggest Thing since Powdered Milk', and possibly the cleverest 'If I Were Brittania I'd Waive the Rules'... Genius! Why don't we hear Budgie on the radio? Fair play to Johnnie Walker that he played 'Crash Course in Brain Surgery' on his Friday Night Rock Show a couple of years ago I I nearly crashed my car when I heard it! I'm sick of mainstream radio like Radio 2 when they have their 'rock' section constantly playing Led Zeppelin; IMHO they were just playing second-fiddle to the mighty Budgie... 'Nuff said, RIP Burke - you'll be the superstar you deserve to be in Heaven!!!

They were, and this song was always one of my favorites by them. When Tony Bourge comes in with his Axe blazin, the hair on my neck stands up! And the fadeout/faze-in at the end of the song completes it's FUCKING EPIC!! RIP Burke. Thanks for the music. ✌️🤟🤟
"Budgie" has been well known in Poland since 70's - thanks to one of the most popular radio journalists who "discovered" them and played their records in his broadcasts. This is one of my favorite music bands. "Napoleon" was issued in 1975, when I was 18. Greetings from Warsaw :)

@Nessun Dorma My Way Um.... Survivor, Bon Jovi, Europe? Come on man, those are pop-rock bands. No comparison. Any comparison to Budgie that doesn't include Rush is incomplete. Also, you cant put the Beatles and Guns and Roses in the same group. GNR came later than all of these bands you mentioned.

I had the privilege of seeing them live in 1978 in London. I got hit by a car before the concert (I am Yank and looked the wrong way) but made the show anyway. I wish I still had the tape I purchased. I can still see it sprawling across the highway as the trunk containing it falls from the back of my truck. Only memories.
Mark Pytlewski They didn’t want mega stardom. They just wanted to tour and play their music. Seeing them live, it was obvious that they just loved what they were doing. Their integrity is enormous, and their egos are non existent.
Seen budgie in cardiff castle mid 70s. The quo were top of the bill. Hawkwind and curved air were on the bill as well. But when budgie play'd black velvet stallion the crowd were memorised!! They certainly stole the show. Great very underated band.
I remember seeing them play Black Velvet Stallion at the Victoria Hall in Hanley a million years ago, hanging off the front of the stage with the dry ice swirling around, one of the peak experiences of my teenage years!
And if his voice is the very reason this band didn’t make it then all off humanity should be blown to smithereens. It’s no worse than Plant or Geedy was belting out . The latter had much higher register stuff than Shelley. Yet Rush make it big Budgie in the curio dustbin for friggin life. If there’s ever a top 10 list for worlds greatest rock and roll injustices this band not hitting at least Rush levels of success is high on that list.
This band was broke out of San Antonio, at the once great "MIGHTY 99.5 F.M./ 630 A.M" KISS/KMAC. Got a lot of air play here!!!!!🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊✌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I heard this song first time in 1975 at about age 15, I've bought the tape in an elephant market without cover (At the time. Led Zeppelin's Rock 'n' Roll were not yet released). Since then I never heard again because the tape had decayed. I've spent almost 40 years in searching to know the artist, to let me find the new tape/CD in a musicshop. Now finally I found it here, thanks God. Now I'm 56 y.o. And my listening Enjoyment never faded any.
Ja byłem w 2003 w Stodole w Warszawie i później w Progresji w 2008 albo 2009. Uwielbiam chodzić na koncerty klasyków. Polot, wirtuozeria i niesamowity kontakt z publiką.
Tata.
Whatever you say, I never forget that evening in May 1975. I experienced Budgie on stage. 16 years old I was, paid for my first hard rock gig it never left my mind since. They staid with us for almost 2 hours played at a sound level that only was heard when Motorhead became famous. Play this one, Napoleon part one and two as loud as possible and remember one of the best live heavy rock bands of the day. Can’t be played loud enuff!
When great bands didn’t get the recognition they so deserved , just goes to show how lucky we all were to grow up in the 70s and 80s some amazing rock bands .
I remember buying a Budgie album when i was stationed in Germany without even hearing them just for the the album cover, and WOW!! what a discovery!!!. I took my wife to see them live while we were on honymoon in Plymouth (uk) in 82 and when we came out of the venue our balance wasall over the place as they were that loud. I will never understand why they didnt make it bigger as they were unique and had a huge fan base... RIP Shelly
Holy eff... I'm born in '93 but with a father who's raised my ears from birth with the likes of all the greats ( I need not list the obvious) but for some reason I cannot recall budgie...Rediscovering "old" music in 2017 all over again. My first concert was Motley Crue 2004
Budgie and Led Zeppelin were my constant companions during my university years in the 1970s. Still have their LPs and listeing to them every day. RIP Burke Shelley and Jon Bonham.
Cmon how is this so unbelievably good and why has noone introduced me to this band ever? It feels like I'm listening to every single band I love - at the same time.
Budgie as a group certainly did have quite the sense of humour, what with all the bird-brained individuals on the album covers and the strange song names.
Budgie use to rock the Alamo City (San Antonio Texas) back in they day!! They had a huge influence in rock music here in south Texas. Such an amazing and underrated band. I'm so glad Metallica acknowledged that with their awesome covers of Budgie.

Bandolier was my introduction to Budgie. I have been a die-hard fan ever since. Welsh Rock has no equal, and these guys do it RIGHT!!!.
If James Bond films had metal tracks, this would have been one of em.
right after he had sex with 4 woman and killed 12 people! right on!
Hell yes... 😮😶😎
I was just on a spree of listening to Budgie tracks and there were 5 or 6 of them that I got that exact feeling from!
I thank my dad introducing me to this band as a kid 🙏🏼
This band was broke out of San Antonio, at the once great "MIGHTY 99.5 F.M./ 630 A.M" KISS/KMAC. Got a lot of air play here!!!!!🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊✌🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Budgie at their best...don't think they surpassed this epic..pure rock..
Maybe the most under rated hard rock band. Proto metal that still holds up well.
Without Budgie where would heavy metal be today?
My ex husband introduced me this band. I was immediately in love. I still have their LP. They were so so good.
One of the first albums I could afford to buy as a boy.
Best Unknown Rockers of ALL time!
Budgie should have been up there with the best of the best bands. But are in my book have been for over 30 years. 🇬🇧
Ja byłem w 2003 w Stodole w Warszawie i później w Progresji w 2008 albo 2009. Uwielbiam chodzić na koncerty klasyków. Polot, wirtuozeria i niesamowity kontakt z publiką.
Tez tam bylem. Ale Parents spierdolili wtedy
Jestem z rocznika 92, Budgie pokazał mi mój ś.p. Tata.
Wooww, brilliant music, after 45 years sound so fresh
This is simply superb. I don't know how I missed this band back in the day, but it's time to catch up.
never too late.
Plenty of catching up to do great albums out there listen
Love the art work on t the budgie albums
RIP Burke, you will live on in your 🎶 music.
One of the Best song of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Budgie your MUSIC is very much part of my LIFE 🎵🔝🖤✌🏿💜💜💜
When great bands didn’t get the recognition they so deserved , just goes to show how lucky we all were to grow up in the 70s and 80s some amazing rock bands .
Dont let the beginning fool you...this song CRANKS! Budgie has always been a mainstay.
I my honest opinion...one of ..if not the best metal song ever made...leaves you exhausted...absolutely stunning
One of the greatest metal bands of all time.
Into them in 1973… the greatest era and obviously still listening 🎉🎉😊
Budgie and Led Zeppelin were my constant companions during my university years in the 1970s. Still have their LPs and listeing to them every day. RIP Burke Shelley and Jon Bonham.
SUPER ROCK 🎵♥️
Dzięki 🎸

Tak. Cześć 👍
Killed my 8-Track decades ago... God bless UA-cam, and Budgie still kicks all sorts of ass..Good memories.
Budgies best song in my opinion

I'll always be grateful of my father for giving me this cd when I was just 6, no doubts they are one of the best 🤘🏻
RIP Burke Shelley. Thank you for making this place more tolerable.
They have been the bridge between prog and heavy metal...As often happens, people forget genius
Cmon how is this so unbelievably good and why has noone introduced me to this band ever? It feels like I'm listening to every single band I love - at the same time.
Noone! I wish I'd have known him.
I never forget to do that 'Mmm' ending. A fine song and album
This is the first song i ever heard of budgie.this will do.excellent.😊😊
Brilliant 'Planet of the Avians' album cover. Just my most favourite band since the 1970s!
Budgie as a group certainly did have quite the sense of humour, what with all the bird-brained individuals on the album covers and the strange song names.
dziwi mnie tylko 108 tysięcy wyświetleń. To jest WIELKIE. To jet rock'n'roll w czystej formie.
Haha. Serio!
Budgie use to rock the Alamo City (San Antonio Texas) back in they day!! They had a huge influence in rock music here in south Texas. Such an amazing and underrated band. I'm so glad Metallica acknowledged that with their awesome covers of Budgie.
Yes! And we can thank Joe Anthony, The Godfather, for introducing them to us.

Do not forget Lou Roney
KMAC KISS
☮️
My heart beats to the rythm of the song every time I hear it ... since 1975 !
Always been my fave of all and every song ever made , lucky to see them lots of times , absolutely the most underrated band in rock ever , ❤️
The Best Band That Nobody Ever Heard Of!
Seriously, the best track this band ever did. And they did a lot of great songs!
What a track what a band
😊
Burke Shelley R.I.P.
Budge along with the groundhogs. Just great music at the time still love the music to day. Old guy.
Don't forget MAN another great Welsh band from that era. Budgie had some really great song titles like " hot as a dockers armpit' and "You're the biggest thing since powdered milk' priceless.
from another old guy,cheers.
Budgie and the Groundhogs were probably the 2 most exceptional and underrated "power trio" bands of the era...
Yes!! Hands down my favorite Budgie song and once I hear it I have to put it on repeat! Thank you :)
An absolutly brilliant rock song. One of my all time favourites by a welsh band
R.I.P. Burke Shelley.
