- Welcome, in today's video you saw the renovation of an old cast iron kitchen scale.
Scales have been part of our civilization since the Middle Ages.
After them, the Sumerians, the Babylonians and the Syrians did not want to be cheated when exchanging goods, so they came up with a way to assess the weight of a weighed body.
However, this scale was able to show the weight of the goods so that it was equal to the weight of the weight. This scale was called an isosceles scale.
Aristotle was one of the first to describe the theory of the pendulum and change, approximately 400 years before Christ.
If we were to focus on Egypt, we would find that the Egyptians were a people with a highly developed measuring technique.
We know from archeological findings that they had several types of scales, but also an ingenious system of weights that were made of different materials and also of various shapes.
However, the development of scales did not progress until the 8th century.
From the 15th century, the development of scales began to accelerate.
In 1669, a member of the French Academy of Sciences, Professor Giller Person with Roberval, invented the first balance scale with two bowls, but even this design was not recognized.
Another invention in the production of scales was the hundredth scale, which was invented by the Strasbourg scale manufacturer Quetenz in 1818.
Less than 30 years later, the new balance scale of the Béranger scale manufacturer was rebuilt and is still in use today.

Wonderful restoration. I think the way you removed rust from the small parts is very ingenious, by using an abrasive with the drill. As always, the historical perspective for the scales is useful. Thanks.

I was trying to imagine what color you would paint it.Then, when you started using the Gold Highlight I realized it was going to be Black with Fold Highlights. Beautiful, it looks regal and majestic in those colors and I really like the Soapstone plate you made, I think that adds to the Regality of the piece. Great job, looks fantastic.

Wow wonderful restoration! I can see this scale being used in a old Mercantile store! I wonder where it has been, and how many wives measured out their grains and flours for their homes. Beautiful history!
