These restoration channels have inspired me to fix up some old items that have been laying around our property. I may not make them look good but I make them work again
Casey Ringer I agree found this a week ago just relaxing to watch. I have a wood shop in my garage and have restore a few things but this is just wonderful. Love the metal machinery work
Still relatable with quarantine. My county is just about to go down into the step above lockdown, and honestly, we may be locked down again come April.
Awesome as always. Your restorations remind me of my Dad as he also worked in a calm and methodical way. I like your style, only replacing what is necessary. Nice to see Averil again, it’s been a while. Love to France 🇫🇷. Cheers Stuart, Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you (& Avril) for making my day 💙. Calm, no music, no talking, just Good Quality, hard work and craftsmanship. Love how Avril is always there to check up on your work, although I think he might be a bit bias because he is easily bribed with treats😺😸😻. Love from the UK💙 *😂 Just checked out your home page and channel description is "Restoration videos made with Avril 🐱" 😂🤣
I think Avril did a splendid job of supervising this restoration. She inspected the parts after sand blasting, checked everything was there and then gave the final ok on the finished refurbishment - and just at the cost of a few cheesy biscuits ! What a star. You did an ok job on the restoration as well, but the cat definitely stole the show.
Thinking back in time, we used to see so many different kind of scales, barrows and other once common items. Nearly all gone now. It's good that there are people like you who are helping to preserve our history.
Wonderful restoration! The fact that you reuse original parts and wood as much as possible is impressive. Thank you for saving this beautiful piece of history. Greetings from the USA
Another amazing restoration, love the old and new parts using to finalize your project. Isn’t it a bit rude to weigh your boss 😉 Thank you for sharing your amazing project. God bless you and your family.
it's 4.14 a.m. and I have just finished watching this masterpiece of a video, very tired but very happy. beautiful craftmanship and stunning finish as usual. thank you - merci.
Of all the restoration channels, I really respect that you don't film the welding arc. It permanently destroys camera sensors so easily, and either cutting past it or filming the arc-light on the wall is perfectly fine. A wise choice all around!
My grandfather owned and operated a scale repair shop when I was a child. He would have been so happy to see this beauty back in action. Bummed so much was rotted but great job!
Wow, that is awesome the way you restored that grain scale. You had to replace the rotten wood parts with new wood but you managed to clean the wood you were able to use. It looks much better now and it works like a charm as well. Great work restoring a piece of history.
Ya know, normally I'm like awesome. But for some reason I really liked the green aesthetic it had before. Awesome restoration, personally I think I would have kept it as a piece of art.
I liked seeing Avril inspecting everything and this was a really cool restoration and I liked you making the dovetails I remember doing them at school. It looks really nice you really have worked hard on this. You are a really clever craftsman
I really prefer LADB over other "restoration"channels, becouse you usually really try to preserve as much original as can. But in this video you just cooly changed big wooden parts, which could have been still saveable if really wanted. Best part of your videos is when you replace small damaged bits of wood, there were now none of that. After all, great video. And God thanks you didn't "repaired" (ruined) it with epoxy like some other chanels!
Acticis Agreed on epoxy repairs, although it does have its uses, these ancient pieces would be very anachronistic. I understand your concern about salvaging components, but here I entirely agree with his judgement to replace badly deteriorating parts, as the structure and function were badly compromised. Love his attention to original methods and practices.
C'est un vrai plaisir de regarder ce travail de restauration du patrimoine français. Le plaisir est d'autant plus grand, que nous avons, en regardant et soutenant votre chaine, chacun participer, à notre niveau, à cette sauvegarde du temps passé. Merci encore.
Looks like you have a garden. Looks like you'll have to start growing grain if you haven't already. I love Avril. Very cool cat. And seems to approve of everything you do.
What a great channel, one of the best I believe. Besides your wonderous ability to restore fantastic antique finds, Avril is also a star. Please give us more of your restoration projects. All the best and keep well.Richard, Cape Town South Africa.
I'd be very keen to see how well it compares to a modern scale, from the light to the very heavy! I appreciate your work, restoring these living pieces of history, it shows us how old technology and ingenuity produced both function and beauty. Thank you.
Wow! I never expected to see something like this video in whole UA-cam! Perfect balance between original look and utility! Some imperfections You did are perfect! It is a kind of job I love it!
Magnifique travail. Il y a plusieurs années j’ai vendu 2 de ces balances, elles sont assez recherchées !! Bravo, et bravo à Avril pour sa participation.
I really do enjoy watching your restorations, especially that you try to reuse as much of the old wooden parts as possible. Two things I'm thinking about: I might be nice to file down the cast markings and it might make sense to stabilize the old wooden parts with some polymer.
Im so glade to see that some one still does stuff the old school ways. My grand dad alway fixed what was broken. It sad we have become a through away socitey. Thanks for your skills look forward to the next video.
I love these videos! They are unique in that there's no music to suffer through and so many other things that make them almost like meditation. I just wish they lasted longer. The older man's hands remind me of my uncles so much, and that alone is a good thing to me. He was an awesome person and it's good to be reminded of him in this way. The videos are enjoyable and appreciated for their content and for what the represent to me, and others I'm sure. Oh, and I love where you get your cooling sand! I never knew France was so beautiful! The touristy part is all I've ever seen. : )
Good job! This kind of scales are real engineering marvels -- combining steelyard balance (earliest more than 5000 years ago) with floating equal pressure platform and including force multiplying counterweights to increase the measurable range. And all of that in rather robust/low level of complexity. Ability to weigh from 0-300kg in 0.1kg increments is something even some modern scales struggle to achieve. They make extremely good teaching material for introductory physics :P My only real critical point, and i only bring it up because rest is marvelous, is the metal straps and screws of the platform. While the scale is probably more of a display piece today, it still seems like a major sticking point, excuse the pun. The screws should be countersunk flush with the metal strap, right now they protrude over it and create a number of points where things on platform (like sacks of grain) can get stuck and pull platform off the balance or break the bags. If the straps are too thin for that, they should be replaced.
Believe me when I say "TRE MAGNIFIQUE". I had a very, very old hall tree I reworked it was not appreciated. So it sat for ten years . I found another and added parts from the old hall tree and she's doing much better. S believe me when I compliment you !! I know that this is not easy plus the video editing. Thank you. you did a better than great job KUDOS!
