OMG!! Don’t EVER host any other gatherings for these ungrateful people again!! They came 3 HOURS early, complained when nothing was ready and then left right after eating?!? Let them handle it and see how much work goes into this.
I didn’t realize how lucky I was until I read this story because my family, whether they show up early or on time or always more than willing to in and help. My niece even brought her boyfriend who is a chef and he helped

My niece even brought her boyfriend who is a chef and he to finish the meal, which was already started, but his help was greatly appreciated. Everybody did something or asked what it is that I needed them to do and finally when we sat down, everything was ready, and everybody was happy. It was quite a celebration every time we got together. I never had to put up with crabby or annoying or grumpy. People asking me stupid questions like “isn’t ready yet “or where is the appetizers or other dumb questions like that. People were just ready to help and join in and be a family and that’s the way it should be.
I have a sister inlaw like this. She has the most kids but brings the least. Also takes the most home after gathers. She even trys to dump her children & go off partying. She's not a bad person but she does this alot. Even when we all put in for food she gives the least moaning about being low on money. Yet if we have drinks afterwards she has money for alcohol & smokes.
How silly that one person does everything. We have family gatherings and everyone helps, even the kids. We laugh and have a lovely time together, cooking and talking. Isn't that how it suppose to be?
I have a large family. With just my parents and mine and my siblings' families, when everyone comes, there are more than 50 people in the house. Every gathering is potluck.
So, non-perishable decorations go up the same day as the party? Put them up the week before. Night before set the table and get out all your serving dishes. Only cook the day of party. I mean what experienced party planner waits until the day of for everything? But the family are total AH's though.

Everybody should bring a dish
I wouldn’t have let them in prior to 3.30pm!
NTA, such families 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
When you are given a time to arrive, you simply follow it.

You should not do everything but why don't you put up the decorations the day before.
How many times did this happen? And you didn't learn? You're the A for that! They're just 'As' in general!

So you did it to yourself.
