    The PT 5000 is very accurate, but there are reported issues regarding lubrication. I can confirm this because the rota in my Cronos Bronze Turtle spins with the hand winding feature. Regrettably Cronos were less than helpful with this matter, and as such I have bought my last Cronos. I should say, the PT5000 on my Geckota G-02 is as sweet as nut. Finally, any ETA2824 movement or any of it's derivatives should only be given minimal hand winding, they really don't like it.

      I agree, I had an issue with my sellita sw200 where I wasn't delicate enough with the hand winding, and it caused something to break causing the rotor to spin when hand winding. Its a delicate brass piece which can break apparently.

    Dear Dan,
    It is a real pleasure to see how your videos just keep getting better. I also appreciate the range of topics and more technical focus such as this examination of the PT5000.
    I've never had one myself, have opted in the past for the SW200 when offered as an alternative, but given price, all the good things I keep hearing, and now your formidable review, I am really inclined to give the PT5000 a try in a future watch.
    Well done. Looking forward to more of your videos featuring analysis of movements.
    All the best.
    Cheers.

    The movement information was very interesting, so I enjoyed the review despite not being a Flieger fan. I quite like hearing about your straps, particularly as I am wearing one at the moment! Maybe you could do the occasional strap demonstration video. That way, we get to see the straps and which watches you think they suit, and the people who don't like you mentioning them can just avoid those episodes and everyone is happy.

    I have a different watch using the PT5000 movement, and have played with it a bit to see what it can do. As received, the watch had some position variation in the rate, which was cured by properly lubricating the balance pivots. Now it is settable to zero beat error and a rate within +/- 2 sec per day. Its only remaining problem is in "isochronism": it runs a bit slower when would up well vs after it has been unworn for a day. I suspect this reflects a difference between the PT5000 vs the ETS hairsping, but not enough to motivate me to replace this part.

    All 2423 movements should be hand wound slowly, I have actually had more luck with Chinese clones not stripping the teeth on that gear that makes it so when you wind it the rotor goes around like crazy, after a few years when handwinding most will have a little rotor wiggle.
    Generaly alot of Chinese 2824 high beat clones that are decent 9/10 will be fine and 7/10 will be as accurate or more accurate than an ETA, most don't need regulation out of the box but when I get a watch from Japan or China they have usually had a long trip and been past quite a few machines with magnetism also not handled that gentle so a demag when first getting it then after a month or 2 of wearing its usually a good idea to check it, the beat error may need to be adjusted but its usually 0.0 or 0.1 , but if you don't have a timmograph you can adjust the speed so when you wear it it will be +1 seconds a day with the micro adjust screw.
    I'm not a huge fan of caseback displays unless the movement is highly decorated and even then I would want to make sure it's thick sapphire or something that could take a drop, a display back on a diver is just a bad idea all around as that's usually where it fails pressure testing.
    Some Chinese manufacturers are based on the stellita and some on the Eta, I took apart a seagull 2824 and it was more like the stellita but only the balance jewels had been piled properly, a hangzhou 2824 was 25 jewels and much more like an ETA with properly oiled jewels and slightly better quality parts.
    Since HKPT and hangzhou have a type of partnership I would guess being 25 it's more like the Eta and hopefully is oiled well, I think the new shock system on the Pt5000 that apparatly helps center the pinions on the jewel bearing is a good idea and it's a way to tell them apart as most Chinese movements have no markings.
    Be careful if your building a watch as a few company's make these cheap 21600bph movements that are the same size as an eta 2824 and the dial and hands will fit but they are not great usually around 15 to 20 dollars you can tell by the blue around the rotor bearing and how it looks nothing like a 2824 on top.
    The only thing they are good for is if you want to go to a tissot dealer and get a watch with no glass caseback then switch it out with a Chinese one so you can keep the powermatic 😂

  • @Alias_Anybody
    @Alias_Anybody 3 роки тому +1

    I really won't become a fan of that green any time soon. Black, white or bust with that design.
    You mentioned the handwinding, I've heard some ETAs don't like handwinding at all, the gears for that aren't even steel but brass and they tend to fail if you use that feature too often. Yeah, Swiss quality in full action. I don't know if the Chinese would copy that part but if that's a thing I'd certainly prefer the good old NH35.

  • @gitmoholliday5764

    the whole point of a pilot watch is legibility,
    and to be sure the watch is running, they could've improved that
    by painting the hands including the secondhand white.
    that's all..
    next to that maybe just a handwinder would be just fine.
    ( the strap looks amazing, and ageing that leather would make it even better )

    • @watchmewithwatches
      @watchmewithwatches  3 роки тому +2

      I agree, I think fully lumed white hands would look snazzy and would be very legible. If they weren't so expensive, the Laco and Stowa fleigers are great, manual wind or auto, different sizes and authentic case design. I did make my own fleiger from scratch too (check out "frankenklein" video)

      Well, since it's a high beat movement, it should last significantly less than your typical NH35A movement. For instance, the Rolex 3235 cal (28800 bph + 72hrs power reserve) has a service period of around 10 years whereas the new Zenith El Primero Chronograph (36000 bph + 60hrs power reserve) has only 5 years between each service period. You can imagine how bigger the gap would be between the Seiko movt at 21600bph and the PT5000 at 28800 (although both are relatively cheap to replace, 20ish USD for the NH35 and 50-60+ for the PT5000).
