I will make the bold assumptions that Linda took Peggy in *because* she saw she had an intellectual disability, and knew she would be easy to victimize. I think we can also safely assume this is not an isolated event of abuse, and she may have abused other patients.

This case is so sad.Peggy deserved much better. The state she was found in was horrific.I don't understand how Linda(?) was capable of doing this. She's just evil. I'm happy Peggy was given her name back tho.
But thank you for your hard work this year Rachel. Happy holidays and happy New Year!

The fact that Linda made Peggy sleep in the crawl space beneath the house makes me feel that Linda is just a cruel woman who had an opportunity to abuse a young woman who she perceived as weaker and who wouldn't stand up to her or fight back or report her... Linda took full advantage of a woman who needed specialist support and care... The husband probably didn't intervene because he didn't want to deal with the outcome - he divorced her, so he wasn't scared of her... And the kids were understandably afraid of their mother and worried that it they spoke up they'd be next... However, I don't understand why no one asked Linda what happened to Peggy... I love that you use your platform to encourage people to speak up and advocate for victims 💜💜💜💜💜💜

it's so cool to see some of the biggest Jane and John Doe cases that have been called for years finally being solved and to see the real faces behind these people it's sad to hear the stories as well but at least there's an end to the story and a name to be put on the tombstone instead of just Jane Doe

I was being abused by my foster mom everytime my foster father left she would have us kneeling on rice for hours and as soon as she heard my pop car drive up in the drive way she would send us to our room I had bruises all over my body but not my face, she didn't want people to see the Mark's but my friends knew at school. When I turned 18 I cursed my mom out and my pop came at my neck I told him he knows nothing because he was never around he worked 3 jobs so he didn't know he always spoiled us he never put his hands on us and when I told him everything he's didnt wasn't to believe it

Due to the amount of abuse and the variety of the abuse, it is clear to me that Linda was not the only one responsible. Common sense, and precedent from other similar cases, tells me that everyone in that house, including the children, likely participated in the abuse.

So heartbreaking that Peggy was probably so confused as to why someone would keep hurting her & she couldn’t even defend herself. So much pain over such a very long time. I hope she is at peace now & in the arms of her loving mother & brother

That is so 😭 torturing our most innocent.. You have to be sociopathic to do this to someone who's developmentally delayed/ cognitively impaired..This woman was a nurse and didn't take even take proper care of Peggy's wounds she inflicted on her just pure evil..

This is so horrific. It’s sad how many people knew that Peggy was being abused and didn’t help her. Obviously Linda is the one at fault for her actions but this is definitely a good reminder that if you see something, say something. 💔 Props to the person who reported her!

sorry to be the grim reaper here (old woman here w/over 200 yrs of life experience under her belt and now HEAVILY targeted like nobody you'll EVER meet), but, these people are every day average 'good people', no real conscience whatsoever, average and common liars, thieves, murderers, which ABOUND on this earth realm, here. The nurse (nurses are the worst) had an opportunity, and being an average opportunist, she became frustyrated and angry when her expectations werent met - they take everything personally, you see. No love is ever lost amongst such everyday people, and so, husband and wife living together should be expected, taken in stride, understand. ....It took me a LIFETIME to understand this world for what it IS, and so, i understand your perplexity about 'how this could happen and the lack of consciences involved'...i do get it. 💕 ps: it takes knowing Gods word, loving His word, praying in the holy spirit unceasingly, to grow in true understanding - spiritual understanding - and when you might take this road, you will suffer, here. Once the devil and his minions know who YOU are, they go after you - they're all joined at the hip now, too - freemasons, knights, cia, service groups, etc etc..secret societies - especially NOW in these depop/reset times, they are all joined at the hip and aim to ruin those who love truth and facts and GOD. phew, nuff said!💕🙄

I think you give Linda too much credit. I think she wanted a slave basically to work for her, without pay and for someone to kick around and abuse, plain and simple. Then she got tired of her, killed her and dumped her in a ditch somewhere. It's such a sad case. Peggy looked like a lovely girl. Basically, what I'm saying is - you can't expect someone without a conscience to suddenly develop compassion for Peggy, it was never there to begin with. I believe some folks are non-reformable and just plain evil.

This was likely all about money that Peggy was receiving. Do you all notice the nurse was caring for populations that have little to no voice or "value" to society, a person with a developmental disability, as well as prison population. Why should anyone complain, it might mean that more will be expected of them. I agree the husband has some level of culpability. This poor woman should have had a case worker (why didn't the school get involved after the death of her mother? I'm sure they had to be aware of her cognitive disability, as well as her lack of skills in self-care and independence?).

  • @calculatedkitty7067

    I’m speechless 😢
I hope her charges are upgraded to torture simply because the physical injuries from the constant abuse showed signs of healing. The burning beer with acid, road rash, this woman enjoyed this, no one just thinks up different ways to hurt a vulnerable person such as Peggy without malice. I also think her H should be charged with being complicit for letting this happen in his home, the poor woman died of infections that had gone to the sepsis stage!!
Just a question, how do the experts know she suffered a physical cognitive disability postmortem?

  • @jessicayoung6208

Linda couldn't be any more evil. She had zero obligation towards Peggy. It is true that Peggy might have been difficult to live with and work with, I have worked with adults with developmental disabilities and behavioral problems in a group home setting. Those cases were extreme, but still, with the right training even those cases are manageable. All Linda had to do is drop her off at social services, a police station, or just call any public service for advice for how to help this homeless young woman. I don't like the use of the word "punishment" for the severe physical abuse (that ended in murder) when reacting to unwanted behaviors...ever...but especially in an adult with cognitive disabilities. I don't know if it's just me but the word makes me think that it could have been deserved. She basically tortured her and must have enjoyed it, what an evil, sadistic monster of a woman. It's so tragic that Peggy was unable to realize what an abusive situation she was in :'( . Thank you for sharing her story, she was obviously such a beautiful soul that she didn't even recognize the evil in Linda.

This is one of the most horrific cases of trauma to a body I’ve ever heard in a case. Not the most horrific, but it’s up there in the top 5. We were lucky to survive. I lost my twin in 1987. At 27. Years old. We both head learning disabilities. My life is all missed up. Great that they caught the murderer. Put her in a cell treat her the same way. She didn't treat her own child that way. If she did then. She could of been abused her self but she didn't treat her own children that way just her helpers. This is the first case I’ve watched you cover, and safe to say it’s the last. The amount of victim blaming and gaslighting here is insane. I have been working with people with disabilities my entire adult life and here are some things I think you’ve missed in your classes:
    1. Cognitive disabilities don’t automatically cause behavioral issues. If she was a mainstream high school student in the 90s, then she was very high functioning without behavioral concerns.
    2. IT IS NOT OKAY TO HURT A DISABLED PERSON IF THEY ARE OVERSTIMULATED. That’s not “understandable”, that’s evil. You walk away, you call someone. You don’t beat and burn them.
    3. She wasn’t “being cared for”, she was hired and paid with room and board. If there was an issue, fire her and kick her out. Every instance of abuse was a choice. Maybe don’t act like hiring a disabled person is some sort of Godly act?

Hey, in defense of Mr. LaRoche (a long-time family friend of mine, which is why I won’t use his full name) I just want to clarify that Linda was married to Robert Johnson when this happened (that’s who she has kids with).
Linda didn’t even meet Mr. LaRoche (who is the blurred out face in all those recent photos you used) until several years after the murder. By that time, she already had a newly constructed, large log-cabin on a horse farm in IL, ran a successful business, and seemed like a church-going, animal-loving, do-gooder. Mr. LaRoche had been a single father through the 80s & 90s and had one adult daughter, so we were happy for him when he found her. I only met Linda once, in 2006, when I was 23! I thought she was a little tacky & eccentric, but seemed bubbly & warm as a host. It’s a hard memory to reconcile with what we know now.
Some years later, they moved to FL and that’s when her drinking got bad. Mr. LaRoche has been sober for over 30yrs, so we knew that was taking a toll on their marriage. But yes, he WAS COMPLETELY SHOCKED when all of this came out. And even though they were already in the process of getting divorced for other reasons, this has tarnished his family’s name because media reports never refer to her as Linda Johnson, probably because the coincidence of her sharing a last name with Peggy is so confusing.
We are all so relieved that Linda is locked up for life, so Mr. LaRoche & his daughter can begin to heal.

she took in an adult and forced her to sleep under the crawlspace and slapped her around and hit and punished her harshly. She took someone in whom she could do all those things to. That woman purposefully took someone who has cognitive disabilities, she didn't get tired of her behavioural issues, she sought her out because she knew she could control her, knew she could horribly abuse her and nobody would care and Peggy wasn't able to defend herself.

I think the husband and the adult children should be investigated. They likely knew a lot, and did nothing to help. Shame on them.

This is so creepy cause I live in Elgin, Illinois. I know exactly where McHenry, IL is and it isn’t too far from me actually. Maybe a 20-30 mins drive. My dad also lives in North Fort Myers, FL.

Hmm the state police should check to see if Linda’s patients were possibly abused and/or neglected too... However, I think Linda’s family might be more involved than they’re saying :(

I don't know why they thought those women's cases might be connected. Someone that suffers chronic abuse is also going to have bad teeth. They don't get medical attention. It's also not surprising that both women had cognitive issues. They are easy prey for monsters. And there's plenty of monsters behind closed doors in this world

Thank you for covering this case! I’m still disturbed by what this poor young girl went through after losing her whole family and no help from anyone despite her disability. There are so many like her that are abused/killed by their caretakers and yet they never get the attention they deserve. People like Peggy are so vulnerable and easily looked over. I’m glad Linda is where she needs to be but I’m very angry that so many witnesses including her husband did absolutely nothing!

there's another aspect you didn't mention there's a good chance that Peggy was on some kind of government assistance for a disability I have a feeling that the lady was using her to get to that government assistance which is why she took her in the first place she didn't care about her or her health that was evident but I guarantee if we look into it she was on some kind of assistance

I didn’t see anything about that, but it could be. I’m not sure though I feel like if she was on gov. assistance someone would have noticed who she was but I’m not sure

Being a parent of 4 children with disabilities this sickens me. This nurse abused her and the husband watched this which is wrong. She could have done anything instead of hurting and killing her. X

I like how we are so quick to assume the husband is in the wrong and not that he was being abused too.. I’ve seen men advised by their wives and they get pushed down so far they are afraid to even speak wrong.
Nobody would be blaming the wife of the situation was reversed. This kind of attitude is why men that are abused don’t talk. They just get blamed anyway.

OMG. I can’t believe a nurse would treat someone so badly and think that it was ok. I am a nurse in Canada and I worked in Largo Florida from 1993 to May 1996. I can’t believe this case occurred so close by.
