Skyfall was released on the 50th Anniversary of the Bond movies (Dr. No was released in 1963) and what I love about it is that it has just the right amount of fanservice, including legacy characters like Q and Moneypenny, slowly bringing in Bond gadgets plus the kitted out Astin Martin from Goldfinger, cute references like Bond saying "For her eyes only" referencing the movie "For Your Eyes Only" and so much more. It was definitely a Bond movie for the long time Bond fans.
The "Exploding pen" interaction with Q was my favourite 😛
They were also going to have Kincaid be played by Sean Connery himself, but he turned it down
The ending was so great. He finally "meets" Moneypenny, he meets M in the classic office. "Time to get back to work".... Such a great way to celebrate the 50th, and being another 50...
Dr No was released 1962... Thus 50 years from 2012
@@tylerjsmithers8385 My bad. I think I got it confused with the similarly named Doctor Who.
The cinematography in this movie is stunning, Roger Deakins deserves so much praise
I was really happy for him when he won the Oscar for his work on Blade Runner 2049. That movie was visually gorgeous.
@@glennwelsh9784 same, it's crazy that he hadn't won an Oscar until Blade Runner 2049
As much Skyfall has amazing cinematography, the next one Spectre took it to another level.
The Dark Knight was actually a massive inspiration for this film, when you look at the plots for both films they're actually very similar in a lot of ways.
Skyfall came out 4 years after TDK.
Also, thank you to the editor for adding in that small ‘my cabbages’ it did not go unnoticed.
There is a really telling line in "Goldeneye", Judi Dench's first 007 movie as M. She tells James "If you think for one moment I don't have the balls to send a man out to die, your instincts are dead wrong. I have no compunction about sending you to your death, but I won't do it on a whim, even with your cavalier attitude towards life."
What I loved about that scene was there was a kind of “is the James Bond character a relic of the 50’s and 60’s?” question around the time Goldeneye was being made. So they used their introduction of Judi Dench as the new M to call it out directly to the face of James Bond.
Kind of makes you wonder if James Bond...as a character, is simply an alias of course that is replaced when a Bond is either killed or retires peacefully somewhere. For Daniel Craig's "James Bond" and Silva, M for sure holds true on her statement that she isn't afraid to put her agents in harms way, it's what they signed up for, but it doesn't mean that she doesn't care about them, same with Pierce Brosnman's Bond where she first started. They may get on her every last nerve, but you can tell she does really care about them as humans still
As a Scot, your accent was actually decent especially in comparison to others. Well done
No time to die is the best bond film for sure
I thought it started to sound a bit Russian near the end, but yeah it sounded pretty close for the most part
Tiny bit of russian-ish kicked in here and there xd
Also as a Scot, that sounded like me trying to do a Russian accent.
@@TwentySomethingFrets So...Sean Connery then? xD
Enjoying watching the Bond series along with you guys for the first time.
Hands down, the best Bond movie ever made! And it won Adele her first Oscar for Best Original Song of the same title.
I dont know if it is THE best, but at least in top3 and thousand times better than the boring cries of sam totally overrated smith
@@seimen4348 Spectre is also boring as hell..
@@Masterfighterx yeah, was a disappointment.
@@Masterfighterx setting up Blofeld to be the big baddie, then killing him off the crappiest way in No time to Die!Q branch not good enough to find a cure for the virus at all?
Spectre wasn't that bad there were things that should've been cut yeah but it's still a fun movie
Everyone was firing on all cylinders on this anniversary Bond movie! This and Casino Royale are true standouts! Sam Mendes for sure was heavily influenced by Christopher Nolan on this one! Roger Deakins's cinematography was on point!
100% agree on Deakins work on this it’s wonderful. Best looking Bond film of all time.
@@markd2555 Not an accident he has 15 OSCAR noms with 2 wins (Blade Runner 2049 & 1917) & 5 BAFTA wins (The Man Who Wasn’t There, No Country for Old Men, True Grit, Blade Runner 2049 & 1917)!
@@AllInTheGame01 oh I’m well aware, I’m a big fan of Deakins. 😁
@The Cracked Lenses Oh I know, he's an all-time great!
I think Sam Mendes also did a phenomenal job on his own follow-up with SPECTRE! What do you think?
You may not have caught it if you haven't watched a lot of the classic Bond films, but Miss Moneypenny was a main recurring character in the series. Always portrayed as M's secretary, there was always a playful flirting between Bond and Moneypenny but both knew they could never actually have the other. Moneypenny often played the part like 'Always the Bridesmaid, never the Bride' against Connery and Moore's Bond.
There cannot be a James Bond movie without a Moneypenny.
@@OriginalPuro Casino Royale… No Moneypenny…. Most definitely James Bond!!!!
The interactions between M, Bond, Q, and Moneypenny… it’s changed a lot over the years but there’s something about this particular cast that makes it work so well. Between Moneypenny’s flirting and Q’s intellectual one-upping, they almost feel like three college flatmates keeping each other on their toes.
And as a send off to Dame Judi Dench’s M, this could not have hit harder. Remember, IRL, a lot of people were against Craig as James Bond before Casino Royale came out. Judi Dench went on record and said “his critics will be proven wrong.” To have M’s last words be “I knew I got something right,” just too perfect.
Never knew that last bit, that’s fantastic.
Moneypenny is the secretary that Bond always flirts with in the older movies. And Mallory's office at the end is a recreation of the classic office that was used before Judi Dench became M, its almost like a soft reboot at the end. Its a great way of connecting the Daniel Craig movies back to the older ones
Universal exports. ( fake cover office)
I was floored that Moneypenny wasn’t a no brainer. And I’m not even a huge Bond fan!
That was the first sponsor promo I actually took the time to watch! Hilarious! Well done!
Across the board, every actor and actress in Skyfall was absolutely brilliant, but one in particular that deserves mention is Javier Bardem. He went from No Country For Old Men to Skyfall, and I'm sure he had films inbetween as well as obviously after. Brilliant actor. He has such a charismatic yet commanding presence in every scene he's in, no matter the film.
I agree. I had to look him up later to make sure he wasn’t actually a creepy unhinged sociopath IRL.
When I forget that actors are acting, I have to admire them.
As for Dame Judy Dench, she wasn't just in these Bond films but she also was in most of the Peirce Brosnan, Bond films. She did a total of like 7 Bond films.
By "most", he means all of the Brosnan Movies.
I thought she started with Tomorrow Never Dies.
@@jonbrumfield8718 Nope, she's in Goldeneye first. She is called "The New M" by Valentin Zukovsky.
I thought she was in more than 7 ...
She’s allowed to say she’s ready to move on.
Sad for us, but her choice. And a great way to end her story.
Nice touch with the thumbnail, RIP Kevin Conroy!
For me, Casino Royale is my favourite Bond film, but Skyfall is my favourite FILM. It's so beautifully shot and the Shanghai sequence is, to me, an almost perfect short film. Almost no dialogue and everything visually communicated. I adore it.
The part of the groundskeeper Kincaid was originally written for Sean Connery. Ultimately, it was decided it would be too distracting to have the original 007 in the film, so they cast the fantastic Albert Finney. Also, Ralph Fiennes first name is actually pronounced “Rafe”. Awesome reaction as always! 😊
Sean wasn't the original bond u child it was Barry Nelson. Embarrassing yourself by doing no research
So glad they didn’t go with Connery, it would have been so gimmicky and 4th wall breaking.
I think Scotland Holden is my favorite Holden so far! What a crazy multiverse
Highest-grossing Bond film of all time.
Released during the 50th Anniversary.
Bond remembering his tragic past, rebuilding his body & soul, recharging his character to be the best there is.
Judi Dench as the only female 'M'.
Playing the role within 17 years and 2 eras (tied with the late Bernard Lee).
Saw this in IMAX and i was blown away.
Bardem as the villain, Introducing Q & Moneypenny finally, getting a new M and the theme by Adele.
All good.
One of my faves of 2012.
Yep the first and only James Bond movie to gross over a billion dollars and also the only James Bond movie to receive the most Academy Award nominations with five, winning two Academy Awards.
The Moneypenny reveal in this film is my favorite part. It sets up her relationship with Bond through the history of the franchise beautifully.
Skyfall commemorated James Bond's 50th anniversary. For those who have watched all the older Bond movies, there were so many callbacks. Judi Dench has been M since Pierce Brosan's time. It was so heartbreaking to see her character die. In the old movies, Moneypenny was M's assistant, there was always some sort of flirting when Bond came back to headquarters. I loved how they went into this backstory. I cant believe Skyfall is 10 years old. It still holds up!
"That's why I always let you walk in front of me at work" hahahaha, I love Holden
Can’t blame you Holden Jen is a Beautiful Lady, coming or going
Round of applause to the subtle addition of "my cabbages!" to the bazaar scene! Love it
Yes 👏 😂
The lyrics to the theme song 'Skyfall' not only serve as an omen for Bond and MI6, but especially for 'M's character! Adele, "This is the end, hold your breath and count to ten. Feel the Earth move again. Hear my heart burst again, for this is the end!" Thus played my favorite Adele song, but also my favorite Bond motion picture! Kudos to Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris, Ray Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Judi Dench!
I enjoy watching y'all's reactions, but I especially enjoy them when it's a movie I love and you guys love it too!
I love the "My Cabbages!" audio insert from Avatar! it's really cool how Holden's different show/movie reactions bleed into one another and enhance the experience! Well done Sir!
the "my cabbages" killed me hahaha
I love how much effort you put into advertisements! 😂 it’s always fun to watch! I shall become a lord myself as well!
The legend himself Roger Deakins did the cinematography for this. For those who don't know who he is, he shot most of the Coen Bros films, and recently won academy awards for Blade Runner 2049 and 1917
Fun fact: Mr Kincaid was written to be played by Sean Connery as a cute nod and wink as the 50th anniversary bond movie but the studio thought it would confuse audience into thinking there was 2 James Bonds.
God bless you and your awesome sponsor ads. You are the only channel I don’t skip the ads on because they’re so damn funny and creative. 😂
This was my first Daniel Craig James Bond movie, and I loved it. It's such a tremendous movie in so many ways. One of my favorite aspects of it is how it starts all big and bombastic and by the end it's just 4 characters in a church. I love it.
Guilty Pleasure Movie has to be Grown Ups, with a large rating of 11% on rotten tomatoes. Makes me think about my friendships and staying in touch with people even when i grow older. Also another series has to be the first three FAST AND FURIOUS'. street racing, crime solving, gun weilding mayhem, made me fall in love with cars
Usually for a handgun, you will hold it with one hand for a single shot and two hands for consecutive shots (usually). That’s why he was using one hand with the flintlock and two at times when he is shooting more than once.
Holden wants an hour of Bond limping to the hospital and another 2 hours in the hospital healing in physical therapy
Skyfall along with Casino Royale are the best out of the Bond movies
The text about letting Jen pass through the doors first while just working together is the most relatable thing a man can say 😂, there are some prons of being a gentleman 😇🤣
Your sponsor segments are the best on yt
Guilty pleasures.
- Focus (Before Will Smith went loopy).
- Need for Speed (Yea, i love it okay. It has Smokey & the Bandit vibes).
- Now You See Me (Only the first one, that second one with the twins can die a horrible death).
Focus SLAPS!
Those are all great movies that I also love would have to agree with you
So glad you enjoyed this!
The scene with M in front of the council, I always thought she took too long speaking on purpose to show how vulnerable they really are when Javier busts in! Just like you said Holden, “Well they’re getting the funding now!” Just my theory 😊
Such a great movie
I never ever skip an add when you perform them like this one!
I love that they reveal one of the most iconic characters/names in the entire franchise, meant as a bit of a mic drop moment and all we get is a "why do these people all have such weird names". So good.
I loved the sneaky “my cabbages!”, well done.
Biggest guilty pleasure movie for me is probably Green Lantern. It came out when I was a kid and just getting into the Geoff Johns, Green Lantern comics, so seeing it in theaters was super dope for me cuz it was the first time my favorite hero was on the big screen.
Nice. Geoff Johns run on Green Lantern was the best. The movie is not a guilty pleasure for me, but as a super GL fan I own it and watch it from time to time. It’s just cool to see that world in live action. Even if Martin Campbell and WB ultimately failed to make a great film.
The movie not winning best cinematograhpy at the oscars was a tragedy. It was this film that finally made me look at films differently. God this is a beautiful film. Some of the shots in this and lighting and sets...Mmmmmmm...
And there was a Bond girl in this movie. It was M. She's technically the Bond girl of this movie. Like you said, she's the female lead this time around.
Skyfall WAS his family home. Its his ancestriy home.
that "my cabbages!" from Avatar the last airbender almost took me out LOL that was so subtle
I love the Daniel Craig Bond era. These movies brought me such joy. That being said, I've been really down on myself for a while, and your commercial for Established Titles made me laugh really hard. That and Holden's comment about "never pulling out". Hilarious both. I very much needed those laughs after the last few days. Thank you so much for bringing a smile to my face. It's very much appreciated.
The Phantom with Billy Zane and Kristy Swanson. Everyone always says it’s one of the worst comic book movies ever made. I’ve always loved it.
"The Ghost Who Walks".... Also, starring newcomer Catherine Zeta-Jones.
I guess my guilty pleasure film would be the 1998 Godzilla. I know that the story has a few moments that can make you cringe and that some of the actors weren’t the best choice for the film but in spite of all that, I love the action sequences, the CGI is impressive for the 90s, and in terms of trying to modernize the idea of Godzilla, I think the filmmakers had a unique idea in writing a new origin story for not just him but also all the other creatures he would go on to fight. Plus in spite of all the bad things that film may have had, it launched a pretty cool animated series!
Roland Emmerich
Bro I haven't even finished the video yet but I really felt the need to comment and tell you your ad was hilarious and really well done, and tbh I alot of the times don't watch them but this one was great u should do more like those
I remember seeing this in theaters and when the classic Aston Martin DB5 was revealed everyone freaked out and applauded. This is one of my favorite movies/bond movies ever because it blends it’s own story with elements from the classic Bond films.
King Pow: Enter The Fist! Is my guilt pleasure movie for sure. Some people hate it, others love it. I always have a fond memory of watching it with a good friend when we were teens. So this movie brings up that good feeling everytime I watch it.
You go that way! I'll go home!
The Island is one of those guilty pleasure movies... I really like it, but not sure the critics are on board.
Not gonna lie, one of the few sponsor ads I haven’t skipped and throughly enjoyed 😂
For anyone that did, 2:34-5:24.
You threw in the subtle “MY CABBAGES” and I love it
Rest in Peace Kevin Conroy.
I thought this movie took a lot of visual cues from the Dark Knight, especially in regards to the way scenes in London were filmed. And of course, let’s not forget “James Bond will return” being a sort of MCU nod.
Also thank you Holden for your sheer commitment and your spot-on Scottish accents.
“Orphans always make the best recruits” *Batman nodding enthusiastically*
The sure did take a lot from "The Dark Knight", but the "James Bond will return" thing is old as the whole Bond franchise. Definitely wasn't a nod to the MCU...
@@JovanSemi Really? I didn’t notice it in Casino Royale or Quantum (and to be honest I haven’t seen past that). Do you think MCU use of that was inspired by Bond or do you think it was parallel thinking?
@@BichaeldeAngelo I think it was mostly in the old movies, before Craig. I'm sure MCU was inspired partly by Bond franchise, but they also had practital from using that kind of stuff.
@@JovanSemi that’s really interesting actually, ty for the info!
Love your T-shirt holden ✨
So glad you're continuing this Bond/Craig series! Can't repeat it enough, please do try his prior Layer Cake (2004) outing.
Fave guilty pleasures: The Core (2003), Da Vinci Code (2006), Oxford Blues (1984), League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (2003).
"Sassenach" is an ethnic slur.
@Holden Hardman Just to clear something up for the both of you the actress who plays Moneypenny (the women who Bond talks to at the end) is not Eve. It’s Naomie Harris the same actress who played Tia Dalma/ Calypso in the 2nd and 3rd Pirates of the Caribbean films… Oh and 2 films that are guilty pleasures for me are Snakes On A Plane and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull…
I remember first seeing this in 2012 and getting so excited at the end,,, seeing the original office…
I also find it crazy how yous have never heard of Moneypenny. She’s one of the most iconic Bond characters
Fun fact: In a similar fashian to how GoldenEye is the namesake of Ian Flemming's estate where he wrote the 007 novels, Skyfall's title is derived from his mother's name, Skyfall Flemming.
I love how this film ends one era and begins an old one.
Did You Guys Notice That Woman Who Plays Eve, Also Comes Out In Pirates Of The Caribbean As The Witch Lady Calypso And Also In Venom Let There Be Carnage As Shriek/Carnage’s Love Interest.
She Cleans Up Well
Love this movie, also thanks for uploading in 2460p
LOVING your 007 reaction series! 🙌🏾
Legit the only channel where i don't skip the ads
My second favourite James Bond movie of all time, only behind Licence to Kill. It is so masterful and so different with the plot revolving around M.
Naomie Harris playing Eve Moneypenny is also Tia Dalma (Calypso) in Pirates of the Carribean Dead Man's Chest.
“Shot you through and through. We’re all good!”
Touché! A clever Tom Cruise Knight and Day quote.
BEST AD I've ever seen on here lmao... i'm definitely getting a land with your link now
absolutely killer sponsor segment!!
I imagine it feels like you haven't gotten to know M and seen the relationship much as those wasn't her third film in the role, it was her 7th. This M was introduced in Goldeneye which was Pierce Brosnans first film as Bond.
11:23 That's actually the real-life MI6 building. Since the 1990s the exterior of the building was allowed to be filmed in films and TV shows where it played a role including the Bond films and BBC's Sherlock in one brief shot.
Detention (2011) criminally underrated movie for what it tried to do. Honestly it was ahead of it’s time but too many people came into it with misconstrued notions due to the marketing or were so distracted by the fantastical elements that they couldn’t see the genius of the storytelling. Also just some amazing shots that I’ve never seen in movies even to this day.
As for Bond comments: yeah, my big thing was the lack of empathy for the Bond girl. That really took me out of it for a while. Outside of that I totally agree that it was a pretty stellar outing in the Craig run
Sean Connery's Bond totally would have made a joke about a house warming party. 😂😂😂😂
Saw it twice in theaters. so good.
Him confessing he used to check her out is hilarious… she was flattered but also hurt
Someone memorized the Scotsman’s insults from Samurai Jack!
When you asked what is our "1%" movie, I immediately knew what mine is. A movie with big stars, good budget, etc which was a bomb at the boxoffice & panned by the critics. I loved it...mostly (I think) because the low-key comedy plus over the top comedy just hit my funny bone.....oh I forgot to name the film... Joe Versus the Volcano (1990). You guys may hate it, but ....
Love your RHCP shirt, Jen! 🤘
Can we get more of Scotland Holden please!! As one of your most loyal Scottish fans who Speaks using the Scots language most of the time I appreciate this. The accent is pretty good. Also as I typed this out I hadn't gotten to the Samurai Jack part lol (thought you used him for inspiration)
Hope Jen had a crack at the accent too.
Also Stauner means erection lol whoever wrote that line in was pretty sneaky.
Skyfall’s great but the ad for Established Titles was a whole movie on its own, a good one, a masterpiece.
That was the best sponsor ad I’ve ever seen on a youtuber’s page! Well done! More skirts for you sir lmao!
_Skyfall_ might be my second favourite Daniel Craig-era Bond film, and it is the only one I've seen in theatres. It was just... amazing. The re-introducing of Moneypenny and Judi Dench's performance as M was a wonderful swansong for her. And I love the continued roasting of Daniel Craig's last name, haha.
The symbolism in this movie is amazing! Here are just a few I caught on a second watching:
When Bond and Patrice are fighting over the sniper rifle, the background lights depict jellyfish. Jellyfish have no brains and only the barest definition of a nervous system. This speaks to Bond's and Patrice's roles as hired guns, meant only to obey orders rather than to think for themselves.
Q's and Bond's reactions to the painting in the museum symbolize the new generation's and the old guard's respective stances on the changing nature of the intelligence agency. Q sees the shift towards cyber tech in intelligence work as "inevitable" with a smile and a shrug, whereas Bond just gets on with it and does his duty: just a bloody big ship.
Not to mention the callbacks to other Bond films: For Her Eyes Only, Oddjob-looking thug in Shanghai, etc.
We love our long-running advertisement mascots here in the UK - e.g Aleksandr Orlov (the not-cheaper car insurance offering meerkat), Gio Compario (Go Compare opera singer) - I hope Established Titles' business skyrockets and Lord Scotland Holden joins said ranks. Be a deserved gig for the effort you put in for the sponsored tag.
P.S. bonus points for the Samurai Jack reference.
a guilty pleasure series is definitely the Scary Movie series! even though they are cheesy and not everyone’s type of humor, I personally love them and enjoy them every time I watch them!
Wow! Not only two instances of “HTH” but also a bonus of “JH”. We are blessed indeed.
Hahahahah that sponsor segment. You actually pull off the look Holden
Short Circuit and Short Circuit 2 are movies that not many people seem to care for but i've loved since I was a kid, especially 2.
Indiana Jones 4 is my guilty pleasure film. This is probably my fav Daniel Craig Bond film. ALSO Jen took so long to answer your question at 18:14 😂. Judy Dench's M was also in the 3 Pierce Brosnan Bond movies. This made her death in this movie even sader.
This is the best ad I’ve ever seen
Skyfall is one of my all time favorite movies. For me, it’s the closest movie in tone and feel to The Dark Knight.
Watch more movies xd
“I never pull out”
Holden, I almost spat my coffee out.
I don't know why, but that "my friiiiend" reference from Sweeney Todd in the money penny shave scene just got me rofl, great reaction guys
i was about to skip the ad then Scottish Holden came out and I watched it multiple times
I love your guys interactions. "Holden Thomas Hartman!"
