Keep the ending of this film in mind when you watch the next movie. First Bond films that move from last to next with the story line.
To keep some kind of chronology from THIS point - you'd want to see Quantum Of Solace and then go back to Dr. No. and work through to Die Another Day then, do Skyfall. Otherwise, it won't make sense or carry the same weight.
I would suggest that you watch all the bond movies in order. You will see how Bond has developed over the years.
@@DreadnoughtMetal2006 That seems like how it should work, but Craig’s Bond is clearly in a different timeline than the Connery Bond, maybe certain missions have played out the same, but many of the events in the official Ian Fleming adapted stories didn’t happen to Craig even though his run stated out with the first official adaptation of the character. I’d say you could start with Brosnan’s run since Judy Dench’s M only makes sense if she’s been the only M Bond has ever known.
*The Daniel Craig Bond movies is an omnibus series.* It summarises his life in five parts. For the full length life story, watch all of the other Bond movies before _this_ Casino Royale.
This movie should have been nominated for best cinematography at the very least. Stunning camera work
The best thing about this Bond origin film is that the famous Bond theme is not used until the last scene when he shoots White. His character arc is compete and he has become the hard-core 007 we all know. Gives me chills. Great choice.
Even the title song text and raw melody makes so much sense:
If you take a life do you know what you'll give?
Odds are you won't like what it is
When the storm arrives would you be seen with me
By the merciless eyes of deceit?
I've seen angels fall from blinding heights
But you yourself are nothing so divine
Just next in line
Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you, are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
If you come inside things will not be the same
When you return to the night
And if you think you've won you never saw me change
The game that we've all been playing
I've seen this diamond cut through harder men
Than you yourself but if you must pretend
You may meet your end
Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you, are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
Try to hide your hand
Forget how to feel (forget how to feel)
Life is gone with just a spin of the wheel (spin of the wheel)
Arm yourself because no one else here will save you
The odds will betray you
And I will replace you
You can't deny the prize it may never fulfill you
It longs to kill you, are you willing to die?
The coldest blood runs through my veins
You know my name
@TheAdventurer1 And at the moment he'd done shooting him he delivers the iconic line ''Name's Bond James Bond ''
instead of it being delivered at the beginning as was the case in all previous Bond films .
This is such a great action film that re invents James Bond for a modern audience Daniel Craig delivers the role with such charisma
Brilliant i enjoyed this awesome reaction from Coby
long live Bond
CHEERS .
I like the way bond casually tips the dealer $500,000.
Just smooth cool half a mil…. Like On da low tho….
The thing that always gets me though Is, how is he suppose to cash it in? The money is in escrow, so that chip is effectively worthless.
It is actually best practise to give some percentage of you win to the staff.
@@amasim86 damn I never thought about that but you're kinda right. It was winner take all anyway so the chips were only symbolic. Dude would have had to wait until Bond got his money from escrow and then asked him to transfer 500K or something, which would never happen since the money got stolen by Vesper anyway.
@@amasim86, not really. He cashed in from the casino. Casinos have contract with banks (multiple). The same as money didn't use. Was 10 mil buying and another 5 re buying, remember? The total was 115 mil so some aren't using their re buying option.
There you go.
That was actually a mongoose battling the snake at the beginning of the movie. They hunt and kill cobras. They are fierce agile fighters, and they have a mutated cell that blocks the snake's neurotoxins from entering their bloodstream. Apparently in the majority of their fights the mongoose kills the cobra.
As someone who is afraid of snakes the mongoose does the lord’s work!
@@thedeepfriar745
Amen to that, Friar!
The genius of this film is incredible. Even Bond getting tortured in the most humiliating way possible, and yet he's laughing at Le Chiffre lol Bond never loses the upper hand. Absolute perfection!! Bravo! 👏
Vesper’s dialogue in the dinner scene after Bond wins is fascinating.
She says, "You've got a choice, you know. Just because you've done something, it doesn't mean that you have to keep doing it." On the surface, she's talking about Bond being an agent and killing people, but the subtext for her is she's talking about betraying her government and by extension, Bond. She's already in love with him, and she's having to deal with the realities of her situation. It was easy for her to betray her government when it was just a faceless institution, but it's much more difficult for her now that she deeply cares about someone personally victimized by her betrayal. By saying that Bond still has a choice in what he does, she is also saying that she can choose to stop being a traitor. But she can't quite convince herself, which is why she's so adamant that Bond can change; it's not really about whether Bond can change, it's about whether she can.
Bond returns with a quip about people who can't take advice being the ones who always give it. This startles Vesper because, like the scene on the train, he can see through her. He can't see completely through her; he doesn't know what she's struggling with, but he can see that she's driven by something. Vesper is so rattled by Bond's insight that she's put on the defensive and answers his question with a question of her own, sidestepping the issue. Bond brings the issue back to the forefront by revealing how much he's able to see through her, and saying that he'll never know what's driving her. This is a perfect opportunity for Vesper to come clean and tell him everything, but the opportunity is lost.
She gets a text, Bond realizes that Mathis is a traitor, Vesper is kidnapped, then Bond is kidnapped, and then she is forced to make a deal to save Bond's life by giving up the money Bond won in the tournament. After that, it's too late for her. She can't tell him her situation because the people she was working with would kill Bond. So they continue to fall in love, but she knows the relationship is doomed. Her only hope is to die and pay for her sins against Bond. She knows he'll hate her forever, but his hatred is worth it if it keeps him alive. She loves him more than she values her own life.
Love your insight into this.
Casino Royale was the first Bond novel by Ian Fleming published so in a way you are at the start of the series despite all the other Bond films before, which never followed the order of the novels being published nor always follow their storylines , but this film does follow the novel's essential story pretty closely in regards to the main characters, but with a lot of added action scenes to give some kinetic energy.
yes ! (and a different hair color)
And it's fun to go back and watch Dr. No after having seen this one. Even though Sean Connery never did an adaptation of Casino Royale, they subtly reference it suggesting some version of its events happened off-screen.
Live and Let Die is my favorite. :)
@@MLawrence2008 all coming soon !
@@criminalcontent I really hope you watch all the Bond-movies, preferably in order! (Including Never Say Never Again which is falsely sometimes claimed to not be a real Bond-movie even though it is)
If you do I'll watch every single one!
'Okay, Lady MacBeth.' Aren't those catches just so satisfying?
Craig's Bond films are like an "alternate universe" so they could reboot the character.
Have they announced the new Bond yet?
@@stopthephilosophicalzombie9017 Nope. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is rumored to be the guy, but nothing official. I'm sure it will be someone else entirely.
Personally this is one of my favourite Bond movies.
Chris Cornell's: You Know My Name, is my all time favourite Bond theme. R.I.P. bro.
I've seen this film so many times, but watching and seeing the joy on your face made it all so fresh. Thanks, Coby.
RIP to Seattle's own Chris Cornell 😢😢😢
Fun fact, the victim tanker truck driver is the director. :)
The name's Bond... James Bond.
Nobody says that quote better than Sean Connery… RIP
Go to 1st film Dr. No for the 1st version of that.
Wonderful reaction! Please note that it is imperative to watch “Quantum of Solace” immediately following this one, to get the complete picture of what “Casino Royale” is all about.
absolutely- going through all the Craig’s and then going from dr no all the way through

Hi Coby, UK viewer here. I’ve watched a few of your other film reactions but when I saw this come up, I instantly subscribed to your channel. I am a massive Bond fan and have been since my dad took me, at the age of 7, to see my first Bond film, Diamonds are Forever, on its first release in 1971, and I’ve been hooked ever since!
In the 1940s, Ian Fleming once told a friend that one day he would write “a spy novel to end all spy novels.” And he wasn’t wrong. Whilst not the best Bond book (IMO) Casino Royale sets the tone of James Bond and his world and the next 12 novels just adds to that, with fabulous villains, beautiful girls and exotic locations. The films took the books to a higher level, injecting humour, puns, gadgets, size and grandeur (courtesy of production designer Ken Adam’s wonderful set designs) and not forgetting the fantastic contribution made by British film composer John Barry, who took Monty Norman’s low key James Bond theme, added guitars and brass and came up with a thunderous theme that almost everyone (whether they’ve seen a Bond film or not) can instantly hum when asked to.
For all of the production talent working behind the scenes that made Dr. No the big smash it was in 1962, the lightning in a bottle moment that cemented the success of that film and the ones that followed, happened when the producers took a chance on a 31 year old Scottish actor, Sean Connery, to play James Bond. Fleming wasn’t initially impressed by his casting, having already envisioned someone like David Niven in the part, but he changed his mind after seeing Connery’s portrayal of his hero up on the big screen. Connery simply oozed charm, charisma and sexuality in the role, and set the template for the other 5 actors that followed him (all of whom had various levels of success or failure in the role.) As much as everyone goes on about Daniel Craig being the best Bond ever, I totally disagree. No one IMO will ever match Connery’s portrayal of Bond (though I think Timothy Dalton came close.)
The first four Bond films, Dr. No., From Russia with Love, Goldfinger and Thunderball (and the sixth film On Her Majesty’s Secret Service) stick very close to the Fleming novels. Of the rest, some of the films take certain things from that particular book being filmed and use them, whilst others (particularly the Pierce Brosnan films) are pretty much all new stories, with perhaps a passing nod here and there to a character or incident in a Fleming novel. I really think you’re gonna have a blast seeing all of them though. Can’t wait for your reactions and comments.
Everyone's confident and all gangsta about Bond's wellfare until the defibrilator scene kicks in HAHAHA
Helluva ride
Casino Royale reaction with Coby yes 😊
Casino Royale + Coby: oh yes. GREAT.
I don't know if it still is, but at the time, that car flip scene became the world record holder for most number of car flips done in a movie for one stunt.
Excellent reaction Coby. I remember that nearly everyone was against Daniel Craig playing Bond before the release, including me. He turned out to be one of the best :)
One of the best Bond films, with Daniel Craig being one of the best Bond actors of all time. Mads Mikkelsen and Giancarlo Gianninia, are two other fine actors who appeared in the film, also appeared in different versions of "Hannibal".
great reaction. Craig’s Bond is a reboot, and Casino Royale was the first novel, but, for complicated reasons, the filmmakers didn’t have rights to that book when they started the film series back in the early 1960s with the movie Dr. No, starring the original Bond, Sean Connery. the Craig series is essentially a self contained universe and appears not directly connected to the rest of the Bond Film series (Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan)
Remember that Casino Royale was the first Bond novel. Somewhat different from the film, since it was set in the Cold War era, but closer than with most other Bond films. There was a 1967 film version with the original Bond, David Niven, but it bore little resemblance to the novel. The root threads of the Bond universe lie in the preparation of the novel. Ian Fleming's secretary who typed his manuscript became Miss Moneypenny. "M" was modeled on Fldiming's wartime intelligence commander who had much the same rough personality as "M", the classic male MI6 head. Fleming began writing the novel in 1952 on his Jamaica estate. The estate's name - Goldeneye, which was never a novel.
The guy Bond chases at the beginning was the world champion of parkour.
The scene when Bond swerves to miss Vesper tied up on the road was actually shot irl, not a CG car. They had it tricked out so it would flip. It holds the record for the amount of times a car was flipped: Seven.
The way they wrote this Bond character is great. Since he’s still a newbie 00, he’s raw, reckless, and not as smooth as he’d be later in his career.
The best Bond movie out of the lot, and one of.. if not THE best opening theme of the franchise, by the late Chris Cornell. Hope that you do the other 20-something movies too, even when they're bad their still very entertaining. The Man With The Golden Gun for instance, was feeling particulary down last week and that really cheered me up😂
Definitely one of the better Bond themes, but I'm not sure anything will top Goldfinger and Thunderball's opening songs :)
Live and Let Die is my favorite. :)
Live and Let Die is my favorite. :)
I know it gets a lot of hate, but Man With The Golden Gun is my favourite, great locations, great villain, feel good, funny, always a good watch for me.
There was an episode of The West Wing when the President (Martin Sheen) is having a conversation with some of his staff and he starts talking about martinis. He says they should always be stirred, never shaken. If you shake a martini with ice, the ice chips and melts faster which dilutes the drink. "Bond was ordering a weak-ass drink and being snooty about it."
You have to watch all his Bond movies. Together they tell a larger story. Best Bond ever, IMO.
They always start over when they cast a new Bond. Up till Craig, they all just had him be Bond. Craig got an entire arc, from new 00 agent to aging veteran at the end of his career.
What I loved about M in Craig's movies was that no matter how rogue he went and how questionable his acts and choices looked, M always trusted Bond and he never disappointed her trust.
Saw this and Apocalypto in the same night lmao just happened to bring my entire family from mexico who arrived the night before they were BLOWN AWAY!! Amazing Reaction!!
What makes this work is that unlike the majority of Bond films, even the Craig films, the plot beat for beat is basically pulled from the Ian Fleming novel. Obviously, there are the modern set pieces, but the plot 90% from the book, including much of the dialogue. There's only one other 007 film where Bond falls in love with the girl. On Her Majesty's Secret Service. If you like 60s nostalgia and a great love story, that's definitely one to watch. Chronologically, it takes place after the events in Casino Royale. Casino was the first Bond novel. It gets a lot of criticism from 80s and 90s Bond fans who don't like how gritty it is and the fact that Bond isn't constantly making quips (or that Bond doesn't have dark hair - weird), but he doesn't do that in the novels. The quips are definitely a movie thing. I'm a big fan of the books because you get a sense of who he is as a person (alcoholic, drug addict, self-important womanizing orphan). The films generally don't do that. They're just straight up action comedies for the most part. My favourites are the spy thrillers like this one, From Russia With Love, The Living Daylights, and On Her Majesty's Secret Service.
hear hear!!! the closer to the Flemming novel the better!!!
If you remember the Cold War, Vesper Lynd was always going to have divided loyalties… Ian Fleming named her in a really cheeky way:
Vesper Lynd… sounds like West Berlin (a divided nation during the Cold War when the book was written)
The German guy looked at him in the bar because he remembered Bond was the guy he gave his car keys to
Hehe - started out "Well, we know JB must survive, so a real lack of tension..." - To Ahh!", "Oh no!", "OMG!!!" - yup, Bond does that to you... :)
Welcome to the world of Bond. Enjoy your stay. You won't regret it.
Don't restrict yourself to the Craig-movies only. The Rest might be dated, but they are all iconic and entertaining as hell.
goin through all of 'em !
Cool!
This is a complete restart of the Bond series.
The older movies (Connery, Lazenby, Moore, Dalton, Brosnan) comprise one arc of Bond, starting with Dr. No (Connery, 1962) where Bond was already an established agent with 00-status.
With Craig, we're introduced to Bond as a newly-minted 00-agent.
it is my favorite bond movie because it is not like the other ones. he is a playboy in all the other ones but the love to vesper felt real.
The movie didn't handle the "Mathis!" moment the best compared to the original novel.
The reason Bond got suspicious and ran outside was because he realized there was no reason for Mathis to want Vesper to come outside to talk, when he could just come inside and talk to them directly. That, combined with how Bond hadn't seen Mathis since the game ended, made him realize someone else sent the text for Vesper to come outside.
This reboot of James Bond was much needed and, imo, is the best. Influenced by the Bourne Trilogy, they recast the role with Daniel Craig and remade Casino Royal. I highly recommend you watch the rest of the Daniel Craig series.
love it or hate it - quantum drops tonight !
As with the first chase scene, Bond movies usually start with an epic opening scene! The guy who invented the theme song, and played it on his one of a kind guitar, and was a very famous guitarist who taught guys like Jimmy Page, a few years back, sold his guitar, for untilds amount of money, on Pawnstars!
After Sean Connery, Daniel Craig is my favorite James Bond. The family use to go to the drive in to watch 007 in the sixties.
This was fun. Well done. Best moment - “l guess for 120 mill she’ll get another man” sips coffee 😂😂😂. Good job. 👏 👏👏👏
Great reaction Coby, i was waiting for this reaction for so long. Love this one Daniel Craig is the best Bond since the late, great Sean Connery. You are gonna love this James Bond movies they are all tied together, and that chase in the beginning with that guy that do Parkour, well that guy is Sébastien Foucan the founder of freerunning one of styles of Parkour. And a fun-fact, the Aston Martin (Car) flip actually set a world record for flips in a single stunt. A number of world records for stunts were set during this glorious evolution of Bond. I watched a making of documentary for this stunt and they really struggled getting the Aston to flip they kept trying bigger and bigger ramps but the car was just too stable and kept landing on it's wheels, so they had to use an air ram mounted under the car something they really didn't want to do because if you look closely you can see it. Keep up the amazing work, cant wait for the next one. The chair-rope torture scene is from the original James Bond book, Casino Royale by Ian Fleming. If you read the book Casino Royale, he gets even more beat up than he does here. Like Bond loses pretty much every fight, and the times he does win he has to publicly embarrass himself to not die. That's why Bond in the books is always improving himself. keep up the good work.
great ot hear from you marco!
@@criminalcontent I was MIA, i know lol 😂 glad to be back.
@@MarcoMM1 we were just chatting you up other day - us n popcorn roulette were hoping you're doing well
@@criminalcontent oh that's so sweet thanks for the concern I really appreciate it. But now I'm back. And ready to watch some reactions.
These are types of pre-quills in the modern day to the other James Bond movies
Craig's first movie as 007 - new Bond, and they completely reinvented the character.
This could be tough as your first Bond movie - spoiler alert - Best Bond ever, best Bond movie ever.
With Bond going back to the 60s, it's not u worry about if he dies, but how he gets out of it! I suppose I favor Sean Connery, but Daniel is good, so was Pierce, and I wish George had done more than one. He had a real boyhood charm!
The Bond Series with Daniel Craig IS from the beginning introducing characters from the Bond movies. Casino Royal in the 60's was the "first" Bond, but it was silly and not really "Bond". All pre-Craig Bond movies were stand alones so you have to watch each Daniel Craig movie in order because they build to a climax. Enjoy
_Dr. No_ (1962), _Casino Royale_ (1967). Not the first. And the earlier Bond films are not all stand alone, but rather have several recurring characters and organizations with corresponding storylines that span multiple movies.
Great reaction Coby! You are right that this is an origin story. Casino Royale was the first James Bond book, but not the first James Bond movie, so the Daniel Craig reboot took advantage of that. Just a tip; if you watch Quantum of Solace remember that it starts immediately after where this film ends. Think of it as Casino Royale Part 2 and it makes much more sense ;)
This is going to be a fun ride. I hadn't seen Casino Royal since it came out at the movies. I just remember not enjoying it then but I was a teenager and wanted the typical Bond thing but on a rewatch it holds up!
I love Judy Dench's dialogue about Bond shooting up an embassy. 😂
1 hr reactions are amazing. You guys are doing it right 👏
Coby glad you started with this franchise, they build on each other, and it's Bond origin story..all the famous quotes , martini , shaken not stirred, the car's, the suits, are so well done and dropped at the right times. And the characters , same thru old series, but brought in in a new light..I'm rambling but looking forward to watching your journey! ❤
Amazing reactions, so fun to watch ❤
This is my favorite Bond film because of how gritty it is. Up until this point Bond films have been very pretty and tame like a fashion show almost. But this brought the believe ability of being a spy and at same time have some major style points. Wasn't as big of fan of later movies because they felt more like Mission Impossible over top action rather than a Bond film.
I hold this film in such high regard. I saw it 007 times in the cinema and I feel like if you don’t like James Bond by the end of this film then it’s time to move on with your life because you never will! It’s so comprehensively satisfying.
One of the hallmarks of a James Bond film is they often feature the current trends of the time in which they are made. When this film was made, The Bodies presentation Bond finds himself in when he goes to Miami was a popular travelling exhibit. Texas Hold'em poker was all the rage at the time, so they featured that throughout the story. In Ian Fleming's book, they played Baccarat.
"Is he an off the books rogue spy, or does he do what he's told?" With Bond, the answer to that is "Yes, sometimes.
Best Bond song ever.
Absolutely. Few reactors even get it. That last fade as Chris Cornell belts “You know my name!”, camera panning to Craig’s steely blue eyes? Chef’s kiss perfection right there!
This is a remake of the first Bond story, a beginning in modern era. Here James Bond gets his double ohs. That's why you've heard it's a good place to start. Not a continuation of Bond ended with Brosnan, but a rewrite and a reboot.
That Astin Martin car flip scene...ouch. Man that always makes me hurt inside. Poor car. What'd it ever do to anyone?
Cobi, I am late to this match. Sorry! To be fair this is the Only Bond movie I have ever seen. Truly. Not a fan, but will watch anything with your smile and witt!
Eva drowning was brutal. Well, such is life for all. Thank You for the fun reaction and laughs.
Remember this is a reboot of James Bond and what I like about these movies each movie continue the story
From Sean Connery to Pierce Brosnan, the Bond films just go from one actor to another, but with the Daniel Craig era, they "rebooted" Bond by having him just get the "00" status. Judi Dench started as "M" when Brosnan took over the role, with her being the new boss and Bond the seasoned agent. Now with this, she's been around and Daniel's Bond is sort of the "new" guy.
Awesome reaction! I'm really excited to see you start this franchise, and this is an excellent place to start for someone that's just getting into it. The older films have their charm, but Craig's version of Bond is a much more complex character and the series benefits greatly from the more mature take on things. Having said that, I think you'll have a better appreciation for the older films when you get to them since you'll be able to see where the character started and how he and the stories evolved over the years.
On the whole "Not really worried he's going to die" thing.
You're right, The Departed offered all of those "WTF!?!?!??" moments that really take you by surprise. Up to and including major characters dying. HOWEVER...
This is more formulaic, making it about THE RIDE to a destination you already know you're going to get to. Kind of like a rom-com. You're "not really worried" that the various "obstacles" they face are going to actually keep them apart... you're just there for the excitement of the ride.
Casino Royale was the perfect Bond movie. It's probably my favorite of the films Daniel Craig did besides Skyfall, which was also perfect, lol. But he was great in all of them.
Casino Royale will always hold a special place because it's the beginning and origin story. Eva Green was just magic in this film. Her chemistry with Daniel Craig was off the charts. It was the perfect casting choice to get her. She is easily my most favorite Bond girl of every Bond film and I've seen them all. It's hard to believe this movie is already 18 years old as it was released in 2006.
It really doesn't matter what order you watch the Bond movies in they're all superb.I know you'll enjoy them.👍❤🇬🇧
This was genuinely super fun to watch, you were really into the movie and were able to pick up on things which was nice, could tell you had fun! Daniel Craigs James Bonds are fantastic imo
earned yourself a new sub!❤
Thank you so much!!
I would say that was the second person he ever killed... As a MI6 agent. It's hinted at later as him having a background in the SAS. Which makes sense to recruit from former SAS as they do receive spy training from the MI6.
Sooo fun watching along! Almost all Bonds have exotic locales. Enjoy the ride (s) ❤
U know who should be next Bond? The plane bomber guy!!
39:01 Coby says this _right_ before the chair scene. 🤣
In most situations your phone will be in range of multiple cell towers. If thats the case, they can triangulate the phones position fairly accurately, depending mostly on the make up of the area, if there are many hills or buildings and such that could reflect the signal around. But even then it will probably be within less then 100m of the estimated position.
2oz rum 5oz 7up is a rum cooler, garnish with lime. Good summer drink.
There's a very old Hollywood royalty movie u have to watch. Jason robards, Henry Fonda, Joanne Woodward...A Big Hand For the Little Lady!
Casino Royale was a reboot of the franchise. The previous films had become bogged down with over-the-top action excesses that stretched all credibility. They resolved to adapt Casino Royale - the first James Bond book - and take a "back to basics" approach in order to tell a more grounded story by showing Bond's beginning as a Double 0 agent. There is actually another Casino Royale movie, though it is a much more comedic movie and stars David Niven and Peter Sellers. Lots of rights issues and legal red tape had prevented them from making a more serious adaptation of Casino Royale before finally making this movie.
Eva Green was in the sequel to 300. She was also in the sequel to Sin City. She starred with Johnny Depp in the movie Dark Shadows. But I think her first film was the one you just watched. Casino Royale. -OG
Lol the "ferret" is actually a mongoose. They hunt and kill snakes like cobras and are pretty much immune to snake venom and are extremely fast, so don't worry about a thing :). Excellent movie and awesome parkour chase 👌
I like listening to your thought process. It's intriguing.
Three fan favourites were (mostly) missing from this film. The first was the gun barrel sequence, which had always opened the beginning of each of the previous 20 Bond films (leading into the action packed pre-title sequence.) The second was the almost lack of the James Bond theme being used, and the third was the omission of the iconic “Bond, James Bond” line, which is usually peppered throughout each film.
The gun barrel sequence was omitted because at the start of the film Bond isn’t fully “Bond” as he doesn’t yet have his 00 licence to kill status given to him until he has killed two people. Likewise, the James Bond theme is mostly missing throughout the film because again, Bond still isn’t Bond. Yes, he’s a 00 agent now but he’s still slowly developing into the Bond persona we will come to know and love, and he’s missing the Bond refinements (the dinner jacket sequence is a case in point here where Bond feels completely out of his depth and needs Vesper’s eye for detail to guide him.)
It’s not until the last scene in the film, after Vesper’s death has hardened him into the ruthless secret agent who trusts no one, that the second and third favourites come to the fore. We hear the ominous low notes of the Bond theme as Bond climbs the steps to face Mr. White, before uttering the iconic line, “Bond, James Bond” as the full force of the James Bond theme kicks in and we know now for certain that Bond is now the fully formed Bond we expect him to be.
Really good movie and a fantastic reboot to the Bond franchise. Craig was an amazing casting choice, given the tone of what they were attempting after Brosnan's Bond had been run into the ground. The only gripe I had was that despite the movie carefully explaining about bluffing and reading your opponent, all the major hands we see in the film were won by the best hand, so basically by luck. The last hand especially, with Bond having the best hand and Le Chiffre having just the slightly worse hand, which is the worst case scenario for him. Same for the guy he won the car from.
The brilliance in this is its Bond becoming Bond. He makes mistakes as a new 00, learns, gets betrayed, and is cynical by the end. "Job's done, and the bitch is dead." Actually in the novel.
Loved your reaction I'm subscribing!
Welcome aboard!
at the 39 minute mark ... "naw it's not that bloody or gory, just loads of really heavy bruising that's all ..."
huge bond fan, started seeing them on the tv in the early eighties, live and let die is still one of my favs, although bond movies are practically untouchable imo. went through the reboots and new actors playing the character, saw license to kill in the cinema (twice, thanks to the first time the projectionist didn't align the picture properly), then this happened!
i was OBSESSED with going to see this one, saw the trailer plenty of times, even watching it on a "streaming site" in a tiny window on a pc screen with a part missing! ended up seeing it four times in the cinema, bought the 2disk dvd WITH the booklet, and multiple times on tv! as for the title song by the very missed chris cornell, bought the cd single and practically know all the worlds for it! gritty, realistic and hard action! never missed another craig bond movie after that ... the next one however was very perplexing first time i watched it ...
but this was just superb all round
already today the second reaction by this old lady i've seen today😅and won't be the last
This is a remake which is based on the first book in the series. 3:04
Coby you need to see the original and in my opinion, best Bond, Sean Connery. The first Bond film made was 1962 "Dr No". So debonair yet so lethal!
It will be a mystery for the ages how this Bond in particular could resuscitate the franchise with this first movie, ( arguable among the best Bond films ) and be so inconsistent in the quality of storytelling during the length of the run.
sometimes they reset the franchise with each new actor.. good call on the batman comparison - he's a similar serial hero that stays pretty much the same but they change the villain/girl/car/location each movie. nice catch on the level of danger, too. the hardest part of a bond movie imo is keeping it family friendly while adding in just the right amount of menace to make it feel like bond has to actually overcome something. probably don't need to watch every single movie but it might be fun to view one or two with each actor: connery (dr. no, goldfinger) lazenby (on her majesty's secret service) moore (live and let die, the spy who loved me) timothy dalton (the living daylights/license to kill) brosnan (goldeneye) craig (skyfall).
Hi Coby love your reactions. Just a note, this is a reboot of the James Bond character from his origins. So no Bond theme, which is iconic, in the movie until the very end when Bond finally says,”The name is Bond…James Bond”.
Casino Royal and Skyfall are my favorite Bond movies and Daniel Craig is my favorite 007. Hope you enjoy it ❤❤
Another great reaction ❤
1:22 don’t need any backstory for this movie. It’s the first Daniel Craig movie and it was sort of meant to like, reset the series. The book this movie is based on is actually bond’s first mission as a double O agent, canonically, speaking
If you want to see a more classic Bond who is fully formed, I would recommend watching the Peirce Brosnan Bond movies, starting with GoldenEye.
Great reaction… almost like being back in theaters 🎉
Having been a Bind fan for decades and also a storyteller, I had invented in my head the idea they James bind was not a real
Person. I thought whoever stepped into the shoes of being 007 adopted the name James Bond, hence the decades he has existed and the different “ actors”
Who have taken on the role. I like that idea.
