Can you tell me, or do you have a video that compares the Surge and Command sets? I'd like to see what the differences are and what I am getting for the price difference.
Here you go - ua-cam.com/video/60K5M-FB3GA/v-deo.html. This guy has been in the e-drum scene for a long time. Basically, the Surge is great buy and the Commander is overpriced in his opinion. I think I have to agree, because though the command module looks newer and does support limited sample loading, both kits are really designed to be used with VST's. When used with VST's, it makes the Surge the obvious choice. The only other difference is that crash and ride cymbals mount directly to the kit corners on the Commander, where the Surge uses clamps. I had the old DM10 set that had the cymbal mounts built into the stand like the Commander, and they started getting wobbly after heavy use for a couple months. I almost consider that "upgrade" to be a downgrade really. Both great kits though. I'm personally torn between getting the Surge now, or saving up a bit longer to get the DM10 MK2 Pro kit. That's the kit where you'll start to see some big changes. The DM10 module is great and sounds pretty good, and you get another tom and cymbal, and all are bigger. The ride is 3 zone too. Tough decisions, lol.
One other thing that no one mentions is the tensions on the heads. Has anyone ever tried a drum tension tuner on mesh heads? It would seem it would be healthier for the triggers if you had consistent tension on the mesh heads. I am still using the Tama Watch on my acoustic kits.
Question. My used kit I just bought is like brand new minus 2 issues. My crash and ride do not choke. Everything else is perfect. Would a factory rest make any difference? I have another 10" cymbal coming in tomorrow so I will see if the choke works on it. I just happened to get an extra 8" tom with it also. I am not sure if there is enough room on the rack to fit it in. (4) toms. I could just use an extra stand but I am hoping I will not have to. So yeah my extra 2 inputs on the module will accept another tom and cymbal. I understand that. This non choking cymbal thing has me wondering though.
hi, and thanks for the video. would you suggest this kit for a total beginner? how much space does it need? would you buy this or a millenium mps750x? does it make lot of noise? thanks
Hey, papele75. Thanks so much for reaching out. Absolutely. It’s great for a beginner. It’s also very quiet due to the mesh. It also doesn’t need a lot of space. I have one setup in a a small bed room. Unfortunately I’m not familiar with a Millenium mps750x. Thanks again. I just need a stabile simple functioning practice kit. This is it. I do not need 400 built in drum kits which this does not have thankfully compared to kits costing thousands etc. We are just trying to learn a new song at home without driving the wife crazy!
Hey, nico3641. Thanks for your interest. It really depends how you set it up. The way Nick has it setup in the video, it really should take up much room. It does fit comfortable on a 5x7 rug. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
Can I run a Tama Iron Cobra pedal on this kit so I do not have to adjust going from a inferior pedal to the real thing when I need to play live? That can be devastating staying on a said pedal getting used to it then suddenly you are using your normal kick pedal. Not the same feel and you have to figuire it out very fast! Waaay no fun!
That's okay, nobody uses the sounds from the modules anymore. To practice maybe, but that's about all really. It's all about VST's now, and they sound awesome with these cheap kits. Even the free MT Power drumkit 2 sounds equally as good as a $3,000 offering from Roland.
Hello, Brett! The Alesis Surge module does not have any means of adding additional sounds to the module itself, but as you stated, you can use it to control software instruments within your DAW via MIDI. Thanks for the interest! Cody Kraus, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1766, cody_kraus@sweetwater.com
I am going to be getting this kit in about 3 months. I am aware that there is a extra slot for a additional tom and as well as another cymbal. I was wondering what toms and cymbals were compatible with it and if they fit on the rack or I had to get stands. I can't find any UA-cam videos with this information.
When I save the sensitivity or threshold for a custom/user kit settings it changes it for every kit, is there a way to save those settings to just one kit number setting?
In researching this set I can't find an expansion kit for the Alesis Surge, only the Alesis Nitro. Is there an expansion kit for the Surge, or is the Nitro crash and tom compatible with the Surge brain?
When i plug my headphones in and try to play along with music from spotify the audio quality is beyound poor. I have to turn it all the way up to hear the drums and the music from Spotify sounds like a 1940's radio at best in mono not stereo. Its so bad i dint use it. What could be the problem?
I would like to buy an electronic drum kit but I am a quadraplegic. Is it possible to move the kick drum to bring it up top or change the sounds to make it so that i dont need to use my legs?
Hey, beatsbywheelidon. Thanks so much for your interest. The only way I can see this happening is to use a table or a table stand to put the kick drum pad on. You can also get a different pad and put it on a snare stand. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
Im 54 and never picked up a set of drum sticks ever and just ordered this set. I live in a condo, what can i put under the foot drum to muffle or kill any kind of thumping sound? It has a leraning program?
Hello, hope all is well with your new kit. I hope you have set it up on some thick carpet. For best results I’d recommend something very thick like carpet padding, you may even want to layer it with some thick plywood then a rug on top to make it more stable and have more chance of dissipating the vibrations
This is a PSA to anyone who's looking to add on to this kit. Alesis offers the nitro expansion that you can find at most music stores. I picked up the Surge as well as the nitro expansion kit thinking there would be no issue. In a way yes, there is no issue, extra Tom and cymbal pad work just fine of course, and despite looking different, the tom functions just as well. There's only 1 problem that was a complete oversight. I didn't research the rack diameter for either set, and come to find out the nitro rack is considerably smaller than the surge, so the clamps do not fit at all. But here's the thing, I actually had an old Turbo Mesh sitting around, and that rack is the same as the Surge. So I robbed two off and problem solved. I found it rather crazy that the lower end mesh kit had a better rack than the nitro (which is plastic, I believe). The only reason I can think is that Alesis has to use a cheaper rack to make up for lost costs using the Module that it comes with. So just be aware that if you want to add on, make sure you take into account the diameter of the clamps beforehand.
Hey, VintageGearMan. Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately that spec isn’t published. It will show FUL on the module when the memory is full. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
Hey, Jörg's. Yes, you can. However, you need to make sure to use a double pedal that is fairly narrow when it comes to the distance between the two beaters. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
Thank you so much for the video and the information, it is really useful. I have a doubt about the kit, do you happen to know if instead of adding a fourth tom, can I add another cymbal?
Hey, Armando. Thanks so much for reaching out. You can add one tom and one cymbal. Unfortunately you can’t add two toms or two cymbals. They have to be one each. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
Hello i just want to ask what's the difference between alesis nitro mesh kit to alesis surge mesh kit?? as i watched this video, for me the module of alesis nitro mesh kit and Alesis surge mesh kit are the same! When it comes to their sounds they are really the same Why??
Hey, Braham. Thanks for your interest. That is correct. The modules are the same. The difference is in the trigger pads, and the upgraded hardware and pedals. I hope this helps. Jason Thiele, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com
does it have breaking glass, hand claps and siren sound ???? im looking to add on to my Kit i already have and need different sounds then the standard sound. Siren i want to use to Reo Speedwagon, and hand claps just because, and the breaking glass for intro to our own music ... so kinda looking for that off the wall not normal sounds that we all heard ...
I don't think so on this one, there's no USB input or anything to load them. But I know you can plug in your phone and jam along, or just load up the song in your DAW and jam to it. I know the higher price modules have input for loading samples and possible songs, but not this one.
Hey, Niranjan. Thanks for reaching out. Yes you can. You do need to make sure it is positioned correctly in the center, though. I hope this helps. Best Regards, Jason Thiele, Senior Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1391, jason_thiele@sweetwater.com

Hi. How much floor space does it take once assembled? I can't find this info anywhere. I'm trying to see if it will fit in a small room
Hey, nico3641. Thanks for your interest. It really depends how you set it up. The way Nick has it setup in the video, it really should take up much room. It does fit comfortable on a 5x7 rug.
I hope this helps.

Here to find out if the cymbals have a bell strike in the center portion
Some of those music sample instruments from those tunes sound like they're from 1989😂 Great demonstration by Mr Nick D, of course👍
That's okay, nobody uses the sounds from the modules anymore. To practice maybe, but that's about all really. It's all about VST's now, and they sound awesome with these cheap kits. Even the free MT Power drumkit 2 sounds equally as good as a $3,000 offering from Roland.
I wish the kick base drum was louder.
Can you upload new sounds from a usb or only thru midi daw in recording?
Hello, Brett! The Alesis Surge module does not have any means of adding additional sounds to the module itself, but as you stated, you can use it to control software instruments within your DAW via MIDI.
Thanks for the interest!

good Demo
I am going to be getting this kit in about 3 months. I am aware that there is a extra slot for a additional tom and as well as another cymbal. I was wondering what toms and cymbals were compatible with it and if they fit on the rack or I had to get stands. I can't find any UA-cam videos with this information.
When I save the sensitivity or threshold for a custom/user kit settings it changes it for every kit, is there a way to save those settings to just one kit number setting?
I like this guy.
My ears get Smiles. hehehe i like this.
I just bought this set, first drum kit for me as a learner. QUESTION: @15:15 what do you mean by "change the midi note of each individual sound"?
Bought a donner kit, but was really dissapointed in the module, so i picked up a surge module for 69$.
Please where can I buy one of this?
I'm very interested in this kit. However, I was wondering if there was a way to do a snare click sound with it. Any help would be appreciated.
If only my Alesis sounded like this , had it for ten days an all the triggers only work on part of the pads
Maybe this could sound good with SD3
I would like to buy an electronic drum kit but I am a quadraplegic. Is it possible to move the kick drum to bring it up top or change the sounds to make it so that i dont need to use my legs?
Hey, beatsbywheelidon. Thanks so much for your interest. The only way I can see this happening is to use a table or a table stand to put the kick drum pad on. You can also get a different pad and put it on a snare stand.
I hope this helps.

@@sweetwater thank you
Im 54 and never picked up a set of drum sticks ever and just ordered this set.
Mine shipped today. When should I expect it?
How do I stop my bass drum tower from moving?
How much recording time do you get out of this module before it stops recording?
Hey, VintageGearMan. Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately that spec isn’t published. It will show FUL on the module when the memory is full.
I hope this helps.

Is it possible to add or use a double bass pedal in this kick tower?
Hey, Jörg's. Yes, you can. However, you need to make sure to use a double pedal that is fairly narrow when it comes to the distance between the two beaters.
I hope this helps.

Is there an upgraded hi hat with stand available for this?
does it have breaking glass, hand claps and siren sound ???? im looking to add on to my Kit i already have and need different sounds then the standard sound. Siren i want to use to Reo Speedwagon, and hand claps just because, and the breaking glass for intro to our own music ... so kinda looking for that off the wall not normal sounds that we all heard ...
Was that a random cowbell sound in 00:45 or was that intentional? Mis-trigger?
That was the rim shot of the tom
Can we add songs to play long? Or just the ones that are already in?
I don't think so on this one, there's no USB input or anything to load them. But I know you can plug in your phone and jam along, or just load up the song in your DAW and jam to it. I know the higher price modules have input for loading samples and possible songs, but not this one.
How to setup 3 region ride?
Can I use double bass pedal on this kit ? Is it suitable for speed cobra
Hey, Niranjan. Thanks for reaching out. Yes you can. You do need to make sure it is positioned correctly in the center, though.
I hope this helps.
Best Regards,

Could the kick pedal be swapped out for a double pedal? Is there enough room on the pad to accommodate the two beaters?
Hello, Iestyn! The kick trigger on the Surge kit is large enough to support two beaters, but ultra fast rolls may be difficult to achieve without causing missed or double triggers.
Thanks for the interest!

How do I make the kick sound clicky like for metal
can you adjust the volume on each trigger separately?
Yes! Plenty of sounds alright, but none sound like my acoustic kit. after spending $750 on them.
