will the alesis nitro expansion pack work with this?
can you adjust the volume on each trigger separately?
So glad I chose this over the Nitro. I love the larger snare and smaller rims which help avoid accidental rim hits. Using a tom rim as my ride so I can have 2 crashes.
Yep. I'm thinking about getting this because I used to have the non mesh nitro before I switched to an acoustic kit, but it's just too loud. You can also add cymbals and toms btw, so you don't have to use toms as extra cymbals.
i've had experience with both and they're pretty much identical lol
but whatever helps you cope with your purchase :)
@@RapidVidsProductions they're identical except for Surge's extra features 😉
thats really cool how do you program the rim to be a ride?
"Using a tom rim as my ride so I can have 2 crashes." ...I think that may have sold me on this kit
Nick! So great to see you again. Loving what you have done with Big Big Train! Thanks for a great demo!
Almost a year ago I purchased the Strike pro se. Best thing I've ever had. I love it
Just got my kit yesterday, and this helped me a lot for my setup. thanks!
This video guide is so useful. I barely understand the manual and much prefer this. Thank you!
your videos are very informative and they make one easy to relate and picture themselves with a kit. Than you so much. God bless you.
My mans energy and passion is unprecedented and unparalleled.
The best UA-cam demonstration explanation of a product I've ever seen.
IMMEDIATELY SUBSCRIBED 👍 & BUYING THIS KIT in 2 weeks
That looks like so much fun ! Thanks Nick . 😃
I have so much fun with the snare on kit 23! You can implement that sound into so many genres!
I just ordered this very exact kit last night, got the tracking info by email in less than 8 hours, and its expected delivery is day after tomorrow, CANT WAIT
Update?
@@gerryattrik4410 well, having basically zero experience with e drums, I really truly like these things Between what's already programmed into the module And the ability to tune these drum pads to produce whatever sound you want It's really amazing to me My last acoustic kit was several years ago and I bought this there's a way to just get back into it a little and I've been having a ball with it I'm very impressed
@@jackwinemiller8358 Hey man, you can also download sounds from online and use VST's to maximize output. a lot of people dont realize this, and its so much better than being limited to factory sounds
The guy is a phenomenal drummer
Great video. Very helpful. Thank you so much!
I bought this set to use at my house and it hasn't let me down! Not bad for the price.
When you say that it hasn't let you down, do you mean that it hasn't broke down? Mine is 4 days old, it showed up with a bad bass kick and a few days later the snare stopped working. I can't believe this is a quality product. It seems like a P.O.S
I am enjoying watching this video several time over. Thanks again!
I just purchased the Alesis Surge and setup was extremely easy, even without instructions. This is definitely an amazing kit for the price. The Alesis module isn't too bad, but some presets can sound very canned at times. This is my first drum kit, but I do plan on using EZ drummer and it's MIDI interface to replace the stock module sounds. I play guitar, bass, keyboard, and I'm also a vocalist. Now I can finally write all my music myself. If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself! 😂
Do yourself a favor. Call the warranty service department and request a new snare right now. It will develop an issue with sensitivity and give inconsistent sound. Rim triggering with the snare crosstalk causes weak sound. They won't ask for old one because this has happened with all Alesis drums sold last year. But it will take months to replace. Tell them you messed with sensitivity settings to no avail. Say only the tom pads sound full when snare input is plugged into them. Register at the site first to make things go faster.
@@brandons6167 Ok, thanks for the heads up mate. It is greatly appreciated. I have directly contacted the Manufacturer by email and laid out my issue just as you explained. I haven't registered my kit yet on any extended warranty though. I'm not sure if that's a must, but I'll be waiting for their response. Once again, thanks for the heads up. We apes gotta stick together. Alone, we are nothing but together we are everything! 😂

Superb review - highly informative. Thanks
I am going to love this kit! Thanks!
Super helpful on the controller! Thank you.
Very good video! You got me sold on them!!
Its definitely the way to go if you can't afford Roland or Yamaha.
@Sergey yea there are some that cost less, but the problem is their availability.
Go for Alesis when you do have the money, also. Strike Pro SE sounds and feels LOADS better than any high-end Roland or Yamaha
@@billmint8122 nonsense. You'll never find one of these in a pro studio
I don’t like Roland’s white pads. Why can’t they put black mesh like this!
@@lety4presidentyou can buy a replacement mesh thats black.
sounds and looks exactly the same as my simmons, Im not complaining, both great kits!
good Demo
It's a great kit to start out on
kit sounds ok Nick sounds amazing remember that
I walked in to the music store pretty set on a Roland electric set...but they dude there convinced me that the Alessis is a great banger for your buck. Also, I don't like the plastic edge that's in between the rim and the actuall drum head that makes noise... So far I'm really happy
OMG, such a versatile set of sounds, and an awesome demo. I aspire to own one of these!
Are you being sarcastic?
No, I'm just never going to be able to afford a professional drum set, and like the live played drum machine vibe..
@@BenODen this isn't really a professional drum set, it's a beginner electric set. The surge goes for around $500 and the nitro is $350
@@galenwolfenden6874 quite so. It's ok, I'm obviously only a beginner, having only drummed on most any available surface.
BenODen, did you ever get one?
Great Awsome video thank you
I have this set and boy I love it. Obviously I wish the sounds were better. But nick is on another level
The sounds, for the price segment of this kit, aren't bad at all ... people want super pros sounds from a basic midrange kit, which you can have a lot of fun with and gig more easily than with a acoustic kit.. well done Alesis!
Use a VST...
@@viva1924 yea thats what im saying lol.. I hook mine up to FL studio and its amazing. plus u can download from the internet diff sounds
@@ohnaw223 wouldn't you have to setup your vst everytime you want to play then? Or do the sounds from VST save on the drum module ?
@@jatinkm I have a Drumming session project file saved on FL Studio. Every time i open that project, it opens up a project with all my backing tracks, and one channel for the drumming VST. The best one right now is Kontakt Studio kits, its super realistic and changes sound with different hit pressures and etc. I just turn on my drum kit and boom, its connected. You're basically turning the kit into a big Midi controller which is 10x better than using the native sounds
Thanks so much for this!! Really helped me understand how to use the brain :)
I have the original Alesis Nitro kit which basically same kit (Minus the mesh pads)
It is absolutely amazing!! 🤩
If your a beginner and you want to learn the drums, this is 100% the kit to get!!

I have this kit and I love it because I combined this with a first generation sample pad. I connect the module and the multipad with midi, upload real samples and send it thought midi to the module, a really killer and cheap combination.
could you explain how to do this please? if you want I will send my email, I'd really appreciate it
I have the surge mesh special edition which is the same just with white mesh heads and it’s a solid kit for the price. I play a little guitar but wanted to get into drumming and this seamed like the less noisy and cheaper option.
Hi! Compared to the nitro mesh, is the rack on the Surge sturdier?
When I save the sensitivity or threshold for a custom/user kit settings it changes it for every kit, is there a way to save those settings to just one kit number setting?
I like this guy.
can you adjust the volume on each trigger separately?
I just bought this set, first drum kit for me as a learner. QUESTION: @15:15 what do you mean by "change the midi note of each individual sound"?
Cool sneakers.
Thank you so much for the video and the information, it is really useful. I have a doubt about the kit, do you happen to know if instead of adding a fourth tom, can I add another cymbal?
Hey, Armando. Thanks so much for reaching out. You can add one tom and one cymbal. Unfortunately you can’t add two toms or two cymbals. They have to be one each.
I hope this helps.

I'm very interested in this kit. However, I was wondering if there was a way to do a snare click sound with it. Any help would be appreciated.
I have one command mesh kit .
Can I add one 3 zone cymbal and extra tomb?
does it have breaking glass, hand claps and siren sound ???? im looking to add on to my Kit i already have and need different sounds then the standard sound. Siren i want to use to Reo Speedwagon, and hand claps just because, and the breaking glass for intro to our own music ... so kinda looking for that off the wall not normal sounds that we all heard ...
I am going to be getting this kit in about 3 months. I am aware that there is a extra slot for a additional tom and as well as another cymbal. I was wondering what toms and cymbals were compatible with it and if they fit on the rack or I had to get stands. I can't find any UA-cam videos with this information.
Is there any difference between the command and surge when it comes to recording covers?
I have spent a good bit of money over the years from this company. I have never had any problems ever.
When i plug my headphones in and try to play along with music from spotify the audio quality is beyound poor. I have to turn it all the way up to hear the drums and the music from Spotify sounds like a 1940's radio at best in mono not stereo. Its so bad i dint use it. What could be the problem?
This is a PSA to anyone who's looking to add on to this kit. Alesis offers the nitro expansion that you can find at most music stores. I picked up the Surge as well as the nitro expansion kit thinking there would be no issue. In a way yes, there is no issue, extra Tom and cymbal pad work just fine of course, and despite looking different, the tom functions just as well. There's only 1 problem that was a complete oversight. I didn't research the rack diameter for either set, and come to find out the nitro rack is considerably smaller than the surge, so the clamps do not fit at all. But here's the thing, I actually had an old Turbo Mesh sitting around, and that rack is the same as the Surge. So I robbed two off and problem solved. I found it rather crazy that the lower end mesh kit had a better rack than the nitro (which is plastic, I believe). The only reason I can think is that Alesis has to use a cheaper rack to make up for lost costs using the Module that it comes with. So just be aware that if you want to add on, make sure you take into account the diameter of the clamps beforehand.
Mine shipped today. When should I expect it?
I been looking into this kit but the lack of a bell on the ride is a showstopper for me. Is there a way around that huge problem?
My ears get Smiles. hehehe i like this.
Superb 😃☺💜💜💜✌✌✌✌✌
Damn. Wish I hadn't gotten the Donner Ded 200.
Is the bass pad big enough for a double pedal?
One other thing that no one mentions is the tensions on the heads. Has anyone ever tried a drum tension tuner on mesh heads? It would seem it would be healthier for the triggers if you had consistent tension on the mesh heads. I am still using the Tama Watch on my acoustic kits.
I just ordered mine. can't wait to play 🥁 should I get nylon tip? or wood tip drumsticks ?
Hey, Jenny. Thanks for reaching out. To me, it doesn’t really matter. I prefer wood tips in general.
Thanks again.

Is there an upgraded hi hat with stand available for this?
I see Nick, I click.
I actually use this kit. There is like 2 usable preset lol. However, I run it through Superior drummer 3, after adjusting the sensitivity, triggering, etc of the kit it feels and sounds amazing. People I've played with online assume I'm playing accoustic(rightly so)
@Carlo Marcelo yes.. the surge kit has dual zone Toms and surge symbols with chokes.
@Carlo Marcelo also a mesh kick and a 10´´snare.
I’m confused on the differences between this and the nitro mesh kit.
@@christianm1989 the nitro mesh kit has only single zone toms and is overall less quality all-round (cymbals, materials, etc.) That's not to say its a bad kit by any means- I haven't personally played one. But-- considering you can find them both for about the same price used, I would go for the Surge
Rockin 😍🙄💗💗💗🤚🤚🤚🤚👍👍👍
Question. My used kit I just bought is like brand new minus 2 issues. My crash and ride do not choke. Everything else is perfect. Would a factory rest make any difference? I have another 10" cymbal coming in tomorrow so I will see if the choke works on it. I just happened to get an extra 8" tom with it also. I am not sure if there is enough room on the rack to fit it in. (4) toms. I could just use an extra stand but I am hoping I will not have to. So yeah my extra 2 inputs on the module will accept another tom and cymbal. I understand that. This non choking cymbal thing has me wondering though.
Can you tell me, or do you have a video that compares the Surge and Command sets? I'd like to see what the differences are and what I am getting for the price difference.
Here you go - ua-cam.com/video/60K5M-FB3GA/v-deo.html. This guy has been in the e-drum scene for a long time. Basically, the Surge is great buy and the Commander is overpriced in his opinion. I think I have to agree, because though the command module looks newer and does support limited sample loading, both kits are really designed to be used with VST's. When used with VST's, it makes the Surge the obvious choice. The only other difference is that crash and ride cymbals mount directly to the kit corners on the Commander, where the Surge uses clamps. I had the old DM10 set that had the cymbal mounts built into the stand like the Commander, and they started getting wobbly after heavy use for a couple months. I almost consider that "upgrade" to be a downgrade really. Both great kits though. I'm personally torn between getting the Surge now, or saving up a bit longer to get the DM10 MK2 Pro kit. That's the kit where you'll start to see some big changes. The DM10 module is great and sounds pretty good, and you get another tom and cymbal, and all are bigger. The ride is 3 zone too. Tough decisions, lol.
Is there a ‘restore to the ‘default’ settings - if the user has messed about with customising all the settings too much and wants to start over? 😇
Hello, Jane! You can restore the drum module to factory settings by holding both the "Enter" and "Stop" buttons while powering on the unit.
Thanks for the interest!

Now if this kit had pre recorded Signature Paiste cymbals would be great!
How do I make the kick sound clicky like for metal
hi, and thanks for the video. would you suggest this kit for a total beginner? how much space does it need? would you buy this or a millenium mps750x? does it make lot of noise? thanks
Hey, papele75. Thanks so much for reaching out. Absolutely. It’s great for a beginner. It’s also very quiet due to the mesh. It also doesn’t need a lot of space. I have one setup in a a small bed room.
Unfortunately I’m not familiar with a Millenium mps750x.
Thanks again.

If only my Alesis sounded like this , had it for ten days an all the triggers only work on part of the pads
Here to find out if the cymbals have a bell strike in the center portion
Could the kick pedal be swapped out for a double pedal? Is there enough room on the pad to accommodate the two beaters?
Hello, Iestyn! The kick trigger on the Surge kit is large enough to support two beaters, but ultra fast rolls may be difficult to achieve without causing missed or double triggers.
Thanks for the interest!
Cody Kraus, Sweetwater Sales Engineer, (800) 222-4700 ext. 1766, cody_kraus@sweetwater.com
Can I run a Tama Iron Cobra pedal on this kit so I do not have to adjust going from a inferior pedal to the real thing when I need to play live? That can be devastating staying on a said pedal getting used to it then suddenly you are using your normal kick pedal. Not the same feel and you have to figuire it out very fast! Waaay no fun!
Although the sounds aren't great, the kit itself is fantastic, especially when you consider that it only costs $500. You could buy this kit and then hook it up to Easy Drummer or something, or buy a different module. I'm planning on buying a Roland TD8 or something because you can get them for a good price, and they sound great
@@Carlosant well it depends on the brand of the module. Brands like Roland work with it, but some brands, such as Yamaha, dont cross with other brands too well.

How do I stop my bass drum tower from moving?
How to setup 3 region ride?
In researching this set I can't find an expansion kit for the Alesis Surge, only the Alesis Nitro. Is there an expansion kit for the Surge, or is the Nitro crash and tom compatible with the Surge brain?
Hi. How much floor space does it take once assembled? I can't find this info anywhere. I'm trying to see if it will fit in a small room
Hey, nico3641. Thanks for your interest. It really depends how you set it up. The way Nick has it setup in the video, it really should take up much room. It does fit comfortable on a 5x7 rug.

I wish the kick base drum was louder.
Im 54 and never picked up a set of drum sticks ever and just ordered this set. I live in a condo, what can i put under the foot drum to muffle or kill any kind of thumping sound? It has a leraning program?
Hello, hope all is well with your new kit.
I hope you have set it up on some thick carpet. For best results I’d recommend something very thick like carpet padding, you may even want to layer it with some thick plywood then a rug on top to make it more stable and have more chance of dissipating the vibrations
The big thing I notice is this is like a Roland rack kit stability wise.
Some of those music sample instruments from those tunes sound like they're from 1989😂 Great demonstration by Mr Nick D, of course👍
That's okay, nobody uses the sounds from the modules anymore. To practice maybe, but that's about all really. It's all about VST's now, and they sound awesome with these cheap kits. Even the free MT Power drumkit 2 sounds equally as good as a $3,000 offering from Roland.
Please where can I buy one of this?
Can I use double bass pedal on this kit ? Is it suitable for speed cobra

I don't understand why some people say it sounds bad, I like it (I'm no expert though).
Can we add songs to play long? Or just the ones that are already in?
I don't think so on this one, there's no USB input or anything to load them. But I know you can plug in your phone and jam along, or just load up the song in your DAW and jam to it. I know the higher price modules have input for loading samples and possible songs, but not this one.
Is it possible to assign each piece of the kit to its own track in a DAW? I basically want to use this like a big pad controller and use my own samples/drum kits.
Hey, Harwin. Thanks so much for your interest. Yes and no. It will not work via analog connections. It does not have the analog outs to accomplish that. You can assign via midi/usb, though.
