I’ve been fighting the urge to get into modular synths for months! Watching a ton of videos on UA-cam just makes the whole thing more confusing! Gotta say this video really has cleared some of the confusion. 👍🏽🙏🏽
Don't fight it. Just embrace the dark side of synthesis. Honestly, I don't make much money, but I put what I can back all the time and have a full small inteligel palette now, and have an empty Moog 104hp case waiting for modules. The palette is focused on generative stuff. So I have a synth that plays it's self now. I'm hoping it can go shopping for me soon, and at some point, go work a damn job for me. The point I was making is you can spend little bits at a time and it doesn't take too long before you have a sweet synth. And you are obsessed with the thing. So many UA-cam tutorials, so many hours on the toilet reading online manuals
Don’t fight it… just do it. Tim’s videos have been a HUGE asset to me and gave me the confidence to venture forth in this thing called modular. I went in on the Behringer 112,130,140 and 150, with a blue lantern Hermippe VCF module, now I do believe I need the Behringer 182 Module to get the desired affect I am use to.
Nice video concept. It's definitely a great paradigm to start with. The 3 module setup you use is a perfect example, as is the classic "D set" that Roland suggested back in the day (112, 121, 130, 140, 150). You can then dive off into the more complex stuff from there. Physically patching signal paths and control signals was such an important learning tool for me when I first tried the 100m. It explains things so much better than words can. Nice cases too btw. Looks very neat.
Patching was the better, more rapid why i could understand everything and learn what modules embraced your style/project, and what didn’t. Really-thanks heaps Tim!
Tim, this is a perfect tutorial for the Behringer System 100: clear, smooth and calm and perfectly executed, both visually and content-wise - just what I needed before taking the plunge! I have now ordered a set of S100 components to start building my own System 100 setup. Thanks mate!
I finally bit the bullet and started my modular journey… your videos have been incredibly helpful! These Behringer units are the direction I’m going right now, for a synth module at least. A drum/ percussion unit will be after. Thank you so much for these wonderfully helpful vids.

I just ordered that sequencer module. It didn't occur to me to use it for gates. I bet it would make a dandy drum sequencer for kick and snare. You could then feed the gate output into a clock divider/multiplier to trigger your hats. I am super excited to start playing with this model. I saw a video where someone was doing audio rate stuff with the sequencer. It will be fun to experiment with the sequencer as a VCO of sorts. Looks like you get a ton of value for money in that module. I already have the system 100 module with sample & hold, rig mod, and LFO. I definitely plan on getting more system 100 modules given their price and my income level. Thanks a ton for making this video.

Thanks for posting this! The world of Eurorack is pretty daunting, and this video really is a great primer for starting in modular. I ended up building the same modular shown here (Behringer 110, 140, 182, and a Doepfer low cost case), and it cost me just below $400 US. I lucked out and found the case for $90 on Reverb, and ordered the modules through Thomaans. It really is great value for money, and just great fun all around. Thanks again!

People hate Behringer because of their awful business practices. It doesn’t take much digging to find people that have spoken out against the company over many years of shady activity. I like his videos too, but I would never buy a Behringer product until they have at least a few years of not stealing peoples work under their belt. Hopefully they do change, I would love to see that. Hope that answers your question 😊
Very nice introduction , sound of these modules are very creamy and spacy -endless sequencing is perfect way to enjoy them. I supplemented mine with VCF-505 for extra flavour

Such a nice demo of the 110 and 140. Those where exactly the two and only Roland System 100m modules I had myself back in the 80s, together with the case and master keyboard. They were, like you said, the absolute minimum for a synth with these modules and was all I could afford because of the prices back then ;-)
Hey Tim, I want to thank you very much for your fantastic work. I'm a Bass player for nearly 35 years and during this weired times I found my love for Synthesizers. I've sold a lot of instruments and bought my first Moog Synths (Matriarch, Grandmother, Mother 32, Dfam) I decidet to buy no instruments with presets or the possibillity to save patches. I want to understand and learn how these beautifull instruments work and react. The possibillity to patch on this semimodular synths is another reason I bought them. The Subharmonicon and the Behringer 2600 are on there way after watching your very interesting Videos about those instruments. I've learned and understand so many things because youre stile of explaining things is on a very high level (even for a beginner like me). This Video is also very mindopening.

What I like about this little sequencer is that you can influence the speed of the sequence with CV. I bought two of these and one controls the speed of the other.
These videos are great Tim! I think that if I get into eurorack this will be how I start. I have a brother in law with a marvelous wood shop and I have the wherewithal to build the power supplies so that would be my way around the insane cost of eurorack cabinets. Behringer modules would be my way around the insane cost of so many other modules on the market too. At least to start anyway.
Wow actually just picked up a Doepher LC1 case, behringer 150 and attenuators to further modulate a Moog grandmother. This video speaks to me! Looking for the 110 next.

Cool, a nice and small but complete synthesizer in a box. Please keep on making videos like this for beginner in modular synthesis. Using a Doepfer A-156 Quantizer would make it much easier to set the tuning of the sequencer-steps. You have some TC Electronic gear in your studio. The polytune guitar tuner will work well for this purpose. Hope that Behringer releases a quantizer for the 100 series. A combination of dual sequential switches and dual quantizer would be nice. Thank´s for your video and inspiration.
Fantastic overview. Main issue with the Behringer 100 System modules is the difficulty in finding the 110, 112 and 182 in stock anywhere. First World OCD Crisis for those of us who would like the complete system! Although using one of the resonant filters as a sine wave is a good start.
I love playing with moog eurorack, but these modules look more logically arranged for a beginner and will help me learn faster. 11:36 great Doepfer case. Love the logical module design too.
Bought one of the modules just to check the quality, cheap enough to try it out. Have the 173, tons of multiples. Very good quality. Now I need to grab that sequencer if I can find it.
Probably the most helpful video I’ve seen regarding modular synthesisers. Keeping down to three modules was an inspired choice and the way you explained the passage of sound using the patch cables really unlocked a lot of mystery. Any chance you could follow this up with showing how you can get different sounds from just these three modules or even which modules to buy next to take the sound in different directions? Overall well done Tim.
