It’s becoming a problem though. Look at his crash with zarco. Pushing is one thing but a rider of his caliber should know the limit at this point. 6:04 two riders who did similar things are Mick Doohan & Valentino Rossi. They would often hang back & in my assessment, apply pressure to the other rider, make them use up their tire, then make the pass and run away. Their opponent couldn't keep up because they had already wore out their tires from the pressure. Another racer who did similar moves is Ricardo Ronaldo, who would do fake and bluff passes to throw off the other car's line, then make an easy pass. In the case of Marquez, I think he would race just close enough to the other rider that he thought MM was going to attempt a pass, when in reality he was just applying pressure and using his tires just a bit less.
Yes, it's the saves! How many times have you seen him save the bike that had you thinking, 'THAT WAS F#*^NG IMPOSSIBLE!!! I'm convinced he's the greatest race rider of all time
I don't think his saves have given him too many points. What most likely is the case, is that his saves give him a lot of confidence, allowing him to push harder than anyone else.
I was hyped when he mentioned Danny Pedrosa. I met him in Germany in 2009 in a super random way. He had his trailer pulled over at a rest stop that my family stopped at near Nurburgring (not incredibly close, but there were signs saying it was like 75 km away). I was 13 at the time. He was a really nice guy and we talked for like 10 minutes
that's true marquez was near to lose the vision of his left eye once on moto2 and he never stopped driving like a crazy goatt xDDD i think he must be one of the strongest minds in the grid.
@Mally mal that's the difference between someone with so much success in his career and you success always comes asking for sacrifice, if marquez was not willing to sacrifice then he would become you
Marquez is simply the GOAT. He was so far ahead of the competition when he entered Motogp in 2013, bringing new skills into the sport like sliding into the corners and those extreme lean angles. Now i feel the new generation of riders and the factories have caught up mostly by copying and extensively studying Marquez riding style. Still, in my eyes Marquez will go down as the GOAT. A Revolutionary Rider who changed the game.
Nope he inherited Casey’s title bike, he had the best bike and he only had to beat Pedro’s an and did it dirty. He’s lame as fuck in close races he’s like 4-20
Ha ha You never watched Stoner, Rossi, Melandri. McCoy race. Marquez??? Ha ha . Rossi is the GOAT! ua-cam.com/video/CLxSXsRQIUw/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared
Before I finish watching the video, I want to say that his physique probably plays a big part in his bike control. He probably has faster and better muscle reflexes than most riders, therefore he can react and adjust faster. That's just my opinion.
Because he train hard outside racing. He got six pack there. His body is similar to bodibuilder who focused on agility. Slim, but fast powerful muscle.
I think he could be a great gimnástic ...or any kind of sportman ....just see ThE way he jumped ThE box fence in Austin. Or ran tiredlessly that same day. If you compare his body with, let,s say, Rossi,s, you can guess the difference. Besides, Marc seems to have more field to get bette due to his age.
Mugello is pronounced with a soft ‘G’, as one would pronounce the letter ‘J’. It’s ‘Mu-Jello’ , not ‘Mu-G-ello’ with a hard ‘G’ as found in ‘grape’ or ‘good’.
Rossi when he first met Marc, "So you are the brave Marc.." he heard of him, and knew his potential. It will probably be few years still, until Marc found someone to overthrow him. As for now, I'll enjoy seeing him slaughtering records.
@@jumpkex9449 🤨🤦🤦🤦. Fabio is the most talented rider on the grid presently ( after Marc Marquez obviously) . All these Martin, Miguel , enea are one day wonders not championship material. Pecco is somewhat a better competitor to Fabio and Marc
I've always attributed his success to his mental determination. His body might not be able to go as hard as before but it's down to the mentality. You can heal your body but Marc benefits from the fact that he has always had a strong mindset and no crash or injury has been able to hinder his strong mentality
Great video. 👍 I'm no fan of a Marquez but there's no denying it, if someone is going to beat him he's going to have go to a level beyond where nobody even imagined Marquez could be right now.
In my opinion, Marc being so dominant, is a combination of many factors, like talent, determination, courage, etc. But mostly it is hard work he puts into every single one of his training sessions. His strenght, stamina, reflex, coordination are on completly different level comparing to other riders and this allows him to be in full control of his bike. He sets the new standards and does things on his Honda that other riders can only dream about. There other thing is his attitude towards racing. He his always positive and smiling and he looks like one of the few riders on the MotoGP grid who truly loves what he is doing. He is very similar, if not the greater athlete, than Lewis Hamilton.
Hamilton comparison is way off. Lewis has been sitting in the best car of the grid for most of his career (courtesy of the great work of the Brawn/Schumacher duo) .
Just a tip to focus on - it is his control of the front tire and the ability to slide it. You can look up interviews from Cal Crutchlow. You can also see that in races if you look at the helicopter cam ànd his turn entries - his bike just doesn't turn when leaned during corner entries :) this is rather major and bigger than his rear tire even though it is not as attractive and easy to see
I'd say in order to ride the Honda as a base you need mx and motard skills of bike control (sliding, using rear brake, steering with the rear tire etc) to steer the bike. Skillsets that many road racing riders don't possess. Cal for instance has said that essentially he never learned how to use the rear brake, a skill essential for riding Honda. Lorenzo is also famous for never having used rear brake at Yamaha.
I argue this to people but they hate Marquez so much they don't listen and cut me off lol. Before the apex he's already sliding front and rear tyres (so its already turned in pre apex instead of after) He's also dropped the bike sliding and recovered pre apex many times. He learnt on speedway circle tracks where you slide 90% of the course
Slide control has something to do with it, but if dare say very large and competent engineering team would help, specifically with brake data. Look at interviews from Stoner, Capriossi Crutchlow etc that have all commented about the evolution on GP racing. Either way Marquez is a fricken god to us mortals.
@@nabiji not a god, talented and calculating yes but certainly no god. He has nailed down a formula that works learning from the best and adapting his tactics as he goes, those are his strengths. Stoner was so good in part because of his dirt/rear brake experience and Marquez took that approach. Lorenzo and Pedrosa were smooth through turns and he took that route and appropriated it to his style. But its all in his practice and timing of strategy, he is a master of executing on the fly and he thinks far ahead in the game not unlike in a game of Chess. It is incredibly rare to have all such qualities in one rider and hence why he does well there really is no other rider like him.
Excellent analysis and video. Marc Marquez is the most complete competitive rider I've seen in my 50+ years in motorcycling. Like you said- he's aggressive but smooth, has phenomenal feel for the bike, uses a calculated racing strategy, and was never intimidated (even by Rossi). Probably the motoGP G.O.A.T. But like all the greats, someone will eventually dethrone him.
Ojalá alguien logre superarlo en un futuro, el problema es que este deporte apenas tiene unas décadas, y es difícil ver a largo plazo que alguien supere esos logros. Pienso que el mundo se acabará antes de verlo

I haven't watched a single gp race in the past ten years but you know what? I remember seeing about 20 second clip of Marc's riding when he was only two time world champion and thought to myself, this guy is the best ever. Go figure
6:45 This is for me the most important skill of Marc. You can see it so clearly now that he didnt race this year. The other riders are riding so much smoother compared to Marc; especially going into the corner.
1) His ability to rotate the bike at full lean. 2 His ability to induce extreme lean. 3) His ability to take controlled risk to find limits, i.e. he is willing to crash in a controlled manor. 4) The elbow save.
"manner" . the presence of mine to use his knowledge and uderstanding of bike characteristics to pick back up the front of the bike byopening the throttle after the front has folded
This is why I love Marquez, he goes to the extreme to find the limit and he is always entertaining to watch. In all those races where he was not in MotoGP after his accident it was just boring to watch, he is just something else that puts me on the edge of my seat every time I see him riding. I hope he is going to get a good bike soon and win many more championships.
When I view these I try to learn. i do not get hung up on personalities or people. I watch the style of riding, but, the BEST teacher is tailing someone and learning the grooves and finer points of braking, trail braking and acceleration points out of the corners. Everyone is fast in a straightaway, but, the race is won in the curves. I know at my age I cannot attain this level and therefore I ride within my abilities. The KEY is knowing the difference. Younger riders recoiver better than older riders and older riders take more time to heal. That and it seems to hurt a lot more after 40 than it did @ 20.
I think for me Marquez is really Fearless Rider in the track, watch the interview when hes talking about Real rider that is ready for the race, hes talking about being fearless, admit it fear of crashing slows a rider , He even told that he dont need comfortable bike , but he need the fastest one... look at valley he slows down this last season, in an interview he mention about crashing, because of loosing traction, that hes not that comfortable in the bike, like come on. . . we all have natural instinct to be safe in riding, but MotoGP is Racing.... the faster the better., fastest and its bad ass great... marquez even fight the crash itself by keeping the trottle and his balance sometimes and that is hes fearless mind setting that what im trying to mention, sorry for my english
I too believe he's so good because he's fearless. Look at lorenzo, once he got badly injured it scared him and he could not push any more and when he would try and push - he would fear injury and then crash again.
@@Runyamouth once he'll switch the bike we'll see how fearfull he'll become for lorenzo coming to honda was a bad decision he's a smooth rider...and the bike is developed for marc and now totally transformed for him power delivery is not linear at all and marc is naturally aggressive on throttle... @@abdulhameedmohammed2614 i agree with you, lorenzo style doesn't fit with Honda at all, its a tough bike for a smooth rider it made for MM, in 2018 since winning in Mugello GP till Misano he collected points more than MM, he was hard opponent for MM since he found his confident with the bike, unfortuntaley he destroyed his career with Honda, if he kept with Ducati guess he can take the title
First time i heard his name was back in 2010, when i saw clips from the 125cc that year. Then after he moved to Moto2 in 2011, i started look closer after his progress, and in that first year in Moto2, he already fought for the championship, just unfortunate with his injury at the end of the season. Then i say, ok this guy has something special. I was excited when he was announced that he'll be riding for Repsol Honda in 2013. And the rest know the history. And it's unfortunate that he broke his arm early on the season, which excluded him out of the championship. Now we're seeing the younger Marquez starting to prove his worth in MotoGP

I enjoyed the martial arts comparison. I think a lot of these aspects can and do relate to the kickboxing practice ive had. And this video sure will help me be not only a better motorcyclist but a more well rounded fighter :)
The more I watch MotoGP the more I realize it's more of a team sport than an individual sport. And my questions aren't why is so-and-so so good? It's, what chemistry is going on with the entire team?
He is a smart rider and that’s one of his greatest skill. He knows how to have more advantage, focus on things others doesn’t even think of, and use his natural abilities to become even more powerful. His physique is one of them. Every rider train hard. But it’s the type of training not just how much and how hard. He stated before (in either interview or his documentary) he didn’t focused himself to be stronger in training. But focused more on agility and flexibility. Which is why he can get back up and ride the bike again even after a big crash and most times he hurt less than he should’ve been. Smart moves imo cause that is such an advantage compared to his rivals. I rarely heard riders talk about building their flexibility before marc. His trainer said this is exactly why he made crashed looked “easy”. He crashed a lot even way before motogp, and had one of the biggest crash in his career in moto2. And maybe this fact lead him to a different set of training which now become a huge advantage for him. And he’s not scared of it somehow. Even when he was a little kid, there was a footage of him crashing, the older people were running to help him and worried, he didn’t even blink twice and get back on the bike continue to race. And he listens! People close to him, like his dad, said this is one of the reason why he is who he is rn. He listened to everyone else stories, achievements, problems, inputs, even critics and analyze them and use them as a learning point for himself. Once I heard this I became kinda obsessed watching him in press conference. You’ll notice he is one of the only rider who seems interested in what his rivals have to say and always listening. He also listens to the bike. He seemed like he tried to fit in to what the bike wanted (like in 2016) instead of asking for the bike to behave the way he need. While wait & consult the team to help fix the bike to his preference.

I reckon it's because he has the perfect height , weight and strength ratio. His legs are perfect levers for the Honda RCV2113V, his arms are the same, in essence his fulcrums are perfect . His age also helps..he is fearless and totally believes in his abilities.
The easiest reason for me is he and the honda rc213v is made perfectly for each other. The bike gives him the performance that he needs, while he gives the bike the talent the bike needs. It makes both he and the bike unleash the best potential of each other.
I personally see him as a rider that is always learning and want to improve.. plus, he has an insane winning mentality.. he clearly makes other riders in the motoGP look 30-40% less of a threat.. but the way he rides makes me worry that he might not be able to break or set new records due to injuries or worse..
I know this isn't about technique but can you do a review of that battle between Rossi and Marquez at SEPANG 2015? I'd love to see you break that down lol
The ugly truth is, that Rossi unfortunately let Marquez mock him to the point where Rossi kicked the front brake with his knee and Marc crashed. It’s all visible in the data of the bike. Rossi kept his face by starting from the last position. At the end, Marc of course let Jorge win. That’s it. The young boy won by loosing.
Tayfun Türkan Rossi mocked Marquez you know! He tries all his mind games to psyche Marquez out but it didn’t work and if anything it fuelled Marquez..he blew his last chance to ever win another championship
Honestly, there is no point. Rossi and Marquez fans are both too stubborn to respect each others views. As a Rossi fan, I honestly think it is Marc's fault. However, you cannot change the past so move on.
Between 1978 and 1993, six different American road racers traveled abroad to race in the 500 cc grand prix. In that span of fifteen years, these six riders won thirteen 500cc championships. Kenny Roberts, Freddy Spencer, Eddie Lawson, Wayne Rainey and Kevin Schwantz all shared the skill of "flat tracking", where groups of riders race at 140 mph on dirt tracks with jumps, left and right turns. Kenny Roberts Jr. won the 500cc championship in 2000 and Nicky Hayden was the last American flat tracker/500cc Grand Prix champion. (RIP)
For sure. Though people like to complain about him pushing the limits and being so aggressive saying it endangers other riders. But the fact of the matter is that he's more than likely going to win the championship every year until someone else decides to push the limits the same as he does.
@@Killerchicken69 or when he loses the championship by his own hand like he did in 2015. No one managed to beat him when he is at 100%. It would be nice to see a new rival come along at his level.

@Mally mal that's the difference between someone with so much success in his career and you

Rossi is the GOAT!

He's not only a great rider but great athlete too..
and a great person also!
Before I finish watching the video, I want to say that his physique probably plays a big part in his bike control. He probably has faster and better muscle reflexes than most riders, therefore he can react and adjust faster. That's just my opinion.
Very true, he is the only rider able to jump straight to his second bike in pitlane.
Because he train hard outside racing. He got six pack there. His body is similar to bodibuilder who focused on agility. Slim, but fast powerful muscle.
Both arifin And Ian have told the truth
I think he could be a great gimnástic ...or any kind of sportman ....just see ThE way he jumped ThE box fence in Austin. Or ran tiredlessly that same day. If you compare his body with, let,s say, Rossi,s, you can guess the difference.
Besides, Marc seems to have more field to get bette due to his age.

Dylan Thornton who really gives a shit? You know what track he is saying don’t you?
Rossi when he first met Marc, "So you are the brave Marc.." he heard of him, and knew his potential.

I've always attributed his success to his mental determination. His body might not be able to go as hard as before but it's down to the mentality. You can heal your body but Marc benefits from the fact that he has always had a strong mindset and no crash or injury has been able to hinder his strong mentality

@RC213V You say Honda is the dominant bike, then why isnt that you are not able to see other Honda riders on the podium consistently?
Biker Academy agree with the comparison
Hamilton comparison is way off. Lewis has been sitting in the best car of the grid for most of his career (courtesy of the great work of the Brawn/Schumacher duo) .
@@georgemavrides3434 agreed, you can't say that his bike is the best on the grid when his team mate and other drivers with same bike is way behind.
@@georgemavrides3434 I think maybe he say about old hamilton. Not the current.
Before the apex he's already sliding front and rear tyres (so its already turned in pre apex instead of after)
He's also dropped the bike sliding and recovered pre apex many times.

6:45 This is for me the most important skill of Marc. You can see it so clearly now that he didnt race this year. The other riders are riding so much smoother compared to Marc; especially going into the corner.
Nice you mentioned Dani Pedrosa, i belive that having a Team Mate like Dani helps a lot to get better.
He’s always on the edge pushing beyond the limits, that’s what makes him one of the best 🏁
Keep up the great stuff Mike !
Exactly. He understands that lean is what turns the bike and that it's the bike's lean that influences the cornering the most, not the rider's.
2. Is probably because he's short.
Because 93 got Autonomous Bike and #99 didn't to kept IT secret.

I love your ending quote btw. "Theres always something new to learn" 💪
Me too!!!!
Came here after Marques went to Ducati and he is still doing wonders!
You do realize they lap within half a second do you?

The more I watch MotoGP the more I realize it's more of a team sport than an individual sport. And my questions aren't why is so-and-so so good? It's, what chemistry is going on with the entire team?
Yes, behind a great rider is a formidable team just as a triumphant knight with a remarkable horse and the sharpest scabbard.
Good observations. I notice how well he dismounts when he crashes. Rarely injured.

The ugly truth is, that Rossi unfortunately let Marquez mock him to the point where Rossi kicked the front brake with his knee and Marc crashed. It’s all visible in the data of the bike.
