SK is a classic all American tool, I'd like to see them make a comeback. Making them in China will only Cheapen the brand and take away their mystique. Selling a cheaper line in the home stores is a huge mistake and will ruin the brand. Like John Deere selling cheap mowers in the home stores.
Guys buy expensive boats, pickups, RV's etc and then they buy their tools at 'Horrible Freight' Horrible Freight is what we've devolved to. Good video.

I like the miniature snap on boxes nice comparison .I have a lot of s&k socket sets and s&k screwdrivers set from the late 80s. Because they were a good deal from the company supplier.i was a elevator technician and they held up great for someone who was pretty hard on them i hope they are still a good deal and quality

I think the catch in the SK is from it having 6 pawls. I think sometimes in just the right spot they're just off just a bit that causes them to not engaged like they should. Also wonder if they're lubed? Ive noticed that in the x-frame wrenches USA versions and I've had some pretty decent torque on them and they're still going just fine. Even smoothed out a bit over time. Just my thoughts on the new SK ratchet. Haven't tested it personally. Great work, good video! Would be curious to see a torque test till failure and then test the warranty since SK under new ownership.

Iirc there is “2” SK lines of tools. Amazon sells the Chinese stuff, while the tools ordered from the website in the professional line are USA made. I bought some stuff recently and it was all stamped USA. A couple of sockets, a pick set, and a ratchet.

  • @mrmoto7682

I bought that same SK set from Lowe’s for $29 but I had to return it because the ratchet was absolute garbage. When switching directions, sometimes it would lock up and you’d have to fiddle with it to free it up. Really nice sockets but that ratchet is no bueno.

The only problem I see with Harbor Freight tools is if you lose a socket or wrench you can`t replace it.
If it breaks they`ll give you a whole new set , IF you have the broken tool....but they don`t have single pieces.

I've got alot of snap on. But hands down koken sockets are just as good at under half the price. As for spanners I have snap on for the last 18 years they still look brand new. But there are other better brands out there now too. Back in the day snap on was all you could buy if you wanted decent tools.

@@ShawnC8030 There are still USA made SK sockets and ratchets being made. They don't come in a nice set like this anymore though, they're sold individually on the website, or as a socket rail. Not sure if you actually get a rail when you buy a set of 3/8" metric 12pt shallows, or if they're all loose. Most SK branded stuff is made in China though, you really have to dig for the USA stuff.

You can't compare sound of a round head and a pear head . Round head always has a more coarse sound. To have a Fair comparison you need to have the LP90 sk ratchet and the usa line of sockets. These sockets are nothing more than the highly polished duratech sockets made by Gold Star which owns SK now.

11/32” is typically in 1/4” sets (unless it’s no skip), same for 1” is going to be in the 1/2”.
SAE has entirely too many sizes and you’ll often find that strictly SAE sets are smaller than metric and can be found on clearance a lot.
To compare ratchet slop you just need to print a degree wheel. Precision lab results are just unnecessary and if anyone says “that’s not accurate” needs their tools confiscated so they can actually be used! (My money is on that those people have a snap on box with strictly snap on tools for clout! They are just mad because they spent all that money and people still think he’s a tool (BaDumTss)

You can definitely buy singles of any Icon set. But it is a bit of a hassle. You find the set online. Scroll down on the page to where you'll see a replacement part pdf. Write down the information. Then, call the listed number for the replacement part. Haven't had to order any replacements, so I'm unsure of how long shipping will take.

If that S-K set was made in China, it is not a professional set, in my opinion. I am a long-time user of S-K tools, but I don't have any of the Great Star products. My understanding was that they would continue to make professional tools in the USA and make consumer products in China. I don't believe anything they say. The S-K I knew and used is dead.
