I went out and got the old ones the other day after watching the video. Couldn't find the new style anyways. Now I'm curious how much more comfy the grip is on the new ones because the grip seems really comfy on the old ones...more comfy then my knipex. I also noticed that the new ones used to be more expensive when they launched for a few weeks I wanna say 30 bucks, then they recently lowered them to 19.

Yet another shamelessly stolen tool design from knipex. The original (82 01 200) only cost around 18€. Why bother ...
Maybe in Europe but in the US they’re $35-40
Also, if the patent is out on them then they aren’t doing anything different than any other tool brand. How many different Brands make water pump pliers originally designed by Channel Lock? How many companies make “Vice Grips”? How many companies make similar Socket wrenches with similar designs, screwdrivers, etc etc.. By your logic we should only ever buy something by the original inventor and manufacturer and if that manufacturer goes out of business then what?
This isn’t a bad thing, this is good for the consumer as competition keeps price in check and breeds innovation.
The Icon version is a lot cheaper than the knipex in the US.
Ok, 40USD is a lot of money for a simple plier. I confess I'm a bit of a fanboy as I grew up not too far away from the KNIPEX factory. All pliers are still forged in Germany at the same place where the company was founded in 1882. That is something you don't get too often these days. And at least here in Germany their stuff is high end but still quite affordable. I have KNIPEX pliers in my toolbox which I got from my grandpa. Don't look as new but still work as new.@@mikrobious
