One shoudl use Hirose connectors because they're the ones Neutrik SPECIFIES to be compatible with their EtherCon series. Not because they're durable or high quality, which they are, but so are many others. :)
There's a list of supported RJ45 connectors on Neutriks list of PDF's on each EtherCon connector :)

This is not correct! You need to use a shielded cable and connect to the metal cover!

This is not absolutely necessary, but of course, you can also use a shielded cable and, in this case, connect the cable shielding to the shielded RJ45 connector. Whether you use a shielded or unshielded cable will depend on your application. If you use a shielded cable, you will of course have to use a shielded RJ45 connector because it is the RJ45 connector that will ensure the continuity of the shield and not the etherCON TOP connector.

You can use TOP series with shielded or unshielded, CAT5e or Cat6/6a. There's only NE8MX6 that HEAVILY IMPLIES you shouldn't use anything BUT shielded Cat6a. But the connector itself is in another league regarding price and complexity.
TOP is common EtherCon carrier where TOP stands for "TRUE OUTDOOR PROTECTION" if mated with a receptacle that has also TOP components installed. :)

If it is not used on stage or near high voltage devices, this UTP cable will be enough. However for etherCON cables on stage, you'll need to use an STP (Shielded Twisted Pair) or SFTP, (Shielded Foil Twisted Pair) not UTP cable. Also if you use FTP (Foil Twisted Pair) cable, don't connect the foil to the metal cover, it's not for shield connection.
