I've been following your channel for years. The door at my bar gave up last night. Your video was the top result. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you a simple and cheap solution that doesn't involve nasty plastics and forever chemicals
If it hasn't been mentioned, you are a fantastic explainer and a true teacher. Thank you.
I watched four videos on how to do this and finally a woman shows the best way
Victor Richard lol right? I’ve been watching men do home repair videos, and Leah simplified everything so pleasantly and quick!
very true
I’ve been a carpenter for 30 years and I love watching Leah’s videos. She knows what she’s doing and she’s a wonderful teacher.
I am amazed this video is still in my history! I had to find it just to tell you I have successfully used this several times since I watched the video, and also it’s helped me to look at some problems I would think were impossible at my skill level, and realize I could just think about it a bit to find practical solutions like this. Your video has helped me in several ways, thank you.
I keep wooden golf tees in my toolbox for exactly this project.
Ive come across doors where people keep adding bigger and bigger screws, to the pint that they even have to drill out the hinge to use a bigger screw, or there's like five different size screws holding the hinge.
The gulf tee is tapered and allows to plug any size hole, and best of all, you start from scratch with all the same screws again.
My first bag of gulf tees lasted me years, it had two size tees ( thin and wide ) between those two sizes you hardly ever need to remove material to make the tee fit, just grab thin tee. This last time I reordered tees, I could only find the two sizes separately, but its no big deal, and the bonus was that this time around the tees were made out of hard wood.
This just worked perfectly for a door that was dragging a bit on the floor! Thank you for these instructions!
Thank you so much! You saved me buying a new door. You explain everything so well.
you're welcome, Maya, glad to be of help!
Leah you are the BEST!!!!!!! Thank you so much
Great tip, just did this . Working great. God bless hope you have a great day. God bless America
Thank you!! Me and my daughter did this today. Saves us telling the landlord and triggering their rent raise mentality. Appreciated!!
Thank you we had our first broken hinge in my daughters room. Appreciate the video👍🏾💕💕💕👍🏾
I did this and it worked! Tenants ruined the door and now it’s like it never happened! Amazing hack! SOLID- Thank you soooo much!! 💪🏽
This is a godsend! Thank You!!
Thank you so much, having to learn to fix things myself. This is very helpful and you explain things well. 💪🥰
great videos you make. I enjoy seeing ways others have to fix odds and ends. Not too long ago I had this problem with a masonry wall that the screws were going into. You might want to add the fix I'm about to share to you library. Simply take a piece of 8ish gauge wire the length of the screw +2 inches and bend the wire at a 90 degree angle at the extra 2". Insert the wire into the screw hole and drive in the screw. The wire will wrap around the screw while going in and gain a tight fit. If the hole is too far worn out you can add multiple wire pieces to obtain the snug fit needed to secure the screw.
Hi Leah, I want to tell you that you have the most beautiful, calming, and inspiring voice ever. It reminds me of the voice of Abigail in the Stephen king movie, The Stand. I feel so much gentleness and kindness in your voice... I love you, Leah.
Also, your approach to explaining things are unmatched..... I am just stating the fact.
Thanks. This saved me a ass wooping and punishment

I wanted to thank you for the idea I could not get my garage door to stop from coming loose from the hinge. I did what you said to do and it has not given me any more issues thank you :)
Jesus Chavez That is great, Jesus, I'm glad the tip worked for you! :)
OMG, thanks so much for this video. I'm a single woman with no experience or knowledge of fixing things, but I can do this!
Lea, I know I can do it you've explained it well thank you!
I used golf tees for the holes because 2 of the holes was all the way through the 2 x 2 inch side of door. Also there were cracks in the side of the door. I used original gorilla glue and just dipped the tees in the gorilla glue. Also glued the cracks. Used C-clamp to keep the cracks firm. All worked great and saved having to buy new door either putting in a pre hung door (a real chore for 60 year old house) or regular door and having to chisel out new places for hinges and then painting it. Saved 5-6 hundred dollars.
You could also use wooden golf tees (color doesn't matter, as long they are made out of wood). They have a high wood density which makes it even stronger. Dip the end in the glue (you can put some glue in the hole too but usually a good dip is enough), hammer it in the stripped hole, snap it off and let it dry. Done. You can re-use the same golf tee for several holes. This method also works for hollow doors. ;)
Cheers!
+TheOpelkoenjas Thanks for sharing this with the community!
Wow simple save me 200 bucks thanks sub
I fixed my plywood loose screw and I put toothpick and works

+waxtheknob glad it was helpful!
Thank you Lea!
worked great, thanks - one of the few 'quick-fixes' that has been both quick and a true fix for me
+Alexander Schubert great, Alexander, I'm glad it was helpful!
LEAH: Another excellent video and thanks for sharing. Last week, I had to do a repair like this on a bookcase and used four match sticks since the hole was big but no glue and the job went well. (I like match sticks over tooth picks since the sticks are thicker and bite into the screw's threads better.)
Hi Doug, glad you liked the vid. And yes, I see what you're saying about the match sticks.
Thank You ...Fixed the dishwasher wooden door like a magic. Genius
Much love to you and THANK YOU for the great videos!!!
Brilliant. Thank you.
If its the wall jam plate that has the loose screws do I do the same thing or is that when you use the longer screw?
Thank you for posting this. I fixed my door using your method. I had tried toothpicks before but it didnt work, but the matchsticks did it for me. The bottom hinge was the one where the screws had come out of their holes so I did your method vertically and it still worked :)
Nice!
Legit never thought of this... My bathroom hinge is hanging off from the wall as well as a door handle in another room. My plan was to fill with no more nails and let the screws set in that. Will try this now! Makes logics sense as you're just refilling the hole with wood for the screw to catch on.. thanks!
Great tip. Thanks
thank you, it is a good option
Such a simple and easy solution thank you. Could the same be done for the door frame hinge holes?
wow, have around 1 hour looking for something easy, smart .well done!
Dany Medina Thanks, Danny!

Thank you so much!
Thanks jane
Worked Perfectly Thanks
Thanks Leah, you saved my door!
My thinking to use longer screws didn't do a thing but frustrate me. Your post was perfect! Who needs to spend hours on a door? I hate working with them. Thanks for the tip.
+Rex TexasAggie you're very welcome!
Nice, but... what if the loose hinges are on frame, not on door, and my door is heavy... main door of appartement. Will this fix be strong enough ?
A wooden dowel or bamboo skewers work well for this too.
Can I safely assume this same procedure can be used if the problem is on the hinge recess around the door trim?
Thank you. I used the tooth picks method + crazy glue. The door hinges is alot stronger now than using those plastic wall anchor screws.
thank you, you just made my weekend a whole lot easier. i look forward to watching your other videos. thanks again for sharing this.
glad to help
i followed her recommendations step by step and my door now is fully functional. thank you

Thanks. Worked perfectly.
Thanks!!!!!!! 👍👍👍
Thanks - very helpful - appreciated the practical solution
Nice tips.. I will try it on my lose kitchen door.
Many thanks.
Will super glue works and manual hand screw!
You're welcome, Khaled, and good luck with your kitchen door!
Thank you! Looks simple to execute, but with a hollow door, there's nothing to stop the matchsticks/toothpicks when I insert them. Should I do this any differently if I'm repairing a hollow door?
+Robert Lehrer Hi Robert, I understand what you're saying. I would take as many toothpicks or matchsticks as I could, and pack them into the hole to fit tightly. Maybe rest the door on its side.
I use a dowel rod or split a paint stick in to 1/8" slivers- you are showing the best way to repair loose hinges.
Hi Peter, you bring up a good point...sometimes you can work with whatever you have on hand to make the repair! Thanks for writing! :)
Thanks so much!!!! This video helped me fix my door
good idea thanks
I used the toothpicks method for my fix, thanks Leah! Love your videos, keep them coming. oh, another useful trick I used once was a wooden golf tee, don't use the high end ones, you can buy a bag of 50 for no more than $5.
interesting idea, thanks, Jesse!
Wow...worked like a charm. Thanks!
you're welcome, Jeremy, glad it was helpful!

Wow this worked so good thank you so much
Does this work if I do it on the side where the door goes?
Worked great. Thanks for posting.

Wow! What a great tip!
Very helpful hint, thank you very much.
my pleasure
You are awesome. Love your vids. Please continue to post.
Love it! Thanks!
Yes it was very helpful . Thank you
Worked. Thank you soo much!
could you do this same thing for where the hinge connects to the door frame? The original installer didn't line up the latch properly, so in order to get the door to latch, I constantly had to pull up on the door to get it to latch properly, so naturally over time the screws on the hinge connecting to the door frame became loose and eventually came out.
Could I follow this same principle? Or should I get the landlord to re-align the latch/ door?
Thanks in advance,
Leah has given a full tutorial of how to fix hinges . Watch her other channel. I love her and the pain she takes to explain its marvelous. God blesss her .
I just used this idea on my glider ottoman that two of the bolts fell out of. Worked like a charm!
