If you're ever looking for trying more south Indian food, here are some recommendations: 1) My favourite is Vada. It's like a fried savoury donut (you can find small ones but bagel size is more satisfying) which you typically find alongside idli 2) Another version of idli is the Rava idli. I don't know how to explain Rava, but it's a different batter and it gives more taste and texture to the idli. They also usually add small peanuts and mustard seeds to add more flavour. It's still not too. overpowering and a great vessel for chutney and sambar. They also make Rava dosa 3) South India is known for it's seafood. Things like goan fish head curry, masala prawns, masala crab. I can't remember them that properly right now but I'll update this soon. Maybe the comments could help me 4) Akki Roti or Roti made of rice flower. It's not my favorite but I enjoy the texture of it with South Indian food
@@LisaNguyen as you try more Indian food, and you are considering more 'eating with the hand' techniques, this is a tip I gave an Australian friend that worked really well - the claw & lever. When you pick up food, put your 4 fingers around the food (thumb facing you, and all fingers facing away) and close them, so the ends of your fingers form a V- shape, then use the your thumb to push food into the V (the claw) and scoop it up towards you. Bring the scoop to your mouth, and for semi dry foods like breads & gravies this works well. If it's a gloopy food like rice, you basically retract your thumb back like like a bowstring and then use the nail of your thumb to push the food from the scoop into your mouth (the lever). While you might find it a bit weird at first, it's totally normal in India. And with broths/sambars/rasams in rice, you don't really get the right ratio of rice to liquid unless you eat by hand We did finger-lickin way before KFC 🤣

The north Indian food you tried is actually there in South India (India is one counrty, but we say it as North India and South India FEW times cause North India has a lot of Hindi speaking states, but we'r one country, so I love my country as one) too, but it's mostly eaten in North part of India. And the crowdy noise is actually very normal in Hotels here 😂😂.I think it's hard for you to eat with plain hands cause this might be the first time you are eating this kind of food with hands, but it's our tradition to eat with hands. EDIT: for masala dosa, we actually put the masala in the dosa, not beneath it. You can try biryani(idk if you have tried it), but there are different styles of making biryani in each state.
Beryl is pretty experienced with Indian food and as a westerner she can also show it from your perspective so she probably the best guide to indian food for western people.
There are many varieties of idly ..like we can make idlies by mixing rice flour with lentils or fruits or vegetables and can make a fusion ...by this we can add flavour to it

To get the real taste of south indian foods, you need to try out our lunch menu or occasion menu. Unlike North Indians, we frequently add non-veg in our diet and we like to eat really spicy. Next time, try our meals too😊
But man did they butcher how to eat em. Don't think they tried the sambhar
@@meghbhosekar6811 I love sambar
@Journee yes that's true as well
I'm north Indian and my whole family Eats non veg mostly, probably because we are Muslims, so that's makes sense.

It’s popularly peanut but it’s also made with cashews
This is amazing. Finally seeing someone eating it with hands, like it always is meant to be. Kudos Lisa! Also try your hand at Rajasthani food- Dal, Bati, choorma etc. You'll love it.
Seeing a beer in a saravana bhavan seems so weird and so wrong yet so right
Those delicious Onion uthappam! Looks too good. Even as kid that used to be my all time favorite breakfast. Masala dosa is always the king of dosas... Looks yum! As a South Indian I can really taste this video. BTW I still don't think Pav bhaji is a South Indian dish. ☺
you're right i'm pretty sure pav bhaji is from the western side although i'm not a 100% sure
@@divyensunadham1477 yes, Pav bhaji is western (from Maharashtra)

The southern most and purest South indian state is only Tamil Nadu which is the cultural capital of South india
@@shiningstone6771 there are 2 southernmost states in India.....
@@teenajoe7433 Kerala is called CHERA Nadu which was splitted from Tamil Nadu.

Hey Lisa ! I live in Andhra Pradesh , south India , I am so proud of you for trying idli ! I eat idli, dosa and uthapam almost every other day at my home . 😊I am glad that you liked it ! You and Breyl didn't know what the last chutney was . It is the off white or bage or light yellow colored one .It is made of peanuts or groundnuts . Sometimes they add a little of coconut as well 🙂 . It is called the groundnut chutney . Thankyou again ! And bye 😃!
Love it! Beryl explains it so well..being an Indian I couldn't have done it better myself!

And also that crunchy dosa is called paper dosa cuse it has a texture of paper
hope it helps:)^_^
I'm a South Indian and I love the way she explains what are the ingredients and food ❣️
Pav bhaji is South indian?
Maharashtra is South India confirmed, I don't wanna hear no complaints from Kannadigas or Tamilians now lol
I know this might be painful but I dare you to make an Instant Ramen soup with no seasoning packet
I am an Indian and love watching your shorts whenever you try indian food I feel that you are missing that 1 present of indian magic and that magic comes when you eat this in india in your home but no complains I love your video and request you to try Gujarati food❤from india
I'm a north indian and my all time fav food is uttapam with sambahar and chutneys ofc.
Who are Tamil here
Im Indian and im not much into south Indian food but i still am happy to see you eat out cultures food
0:45 eating idly with a spoon or a fork is illegal 😤
Wo American hai bhai
Omg ! I am South Indian and you guys made me crave for dosa at 1:42 am.Happy to see a foreigner eat our food in the right manner.
0:47 this is idli 😑
She’s just explaining what idli is and how it’s made
Being an Indian and a south indian food lover, I feel so nice that u tried it
As a south indian I'm really happy to see the video
Beryl is pretty experienced with Indian food and as a westerner she can also show it from your perspective so she probably the best guide to indian food for western people.
Beryl knows her food so well I was impressed 😁😁
I’m South Indian and this makes me feel so happy that you tried this!!! Thank You!!!
There are many varieties of idly ..like we can make idlies by mixing rice flour with lentils or fruits or vegetables and can make a fusion ...by this we can add flavour to it
They all are breakfast recipes, intended to make stomach full in the morning. They are our everyday meal like pancakes and breads in the western. Glad someone showed South Indian recipes finally ❤️🎉
Yayyyy Beryl, happy to see you!!
