      Yessss! Vivaldi and his many rainbow keys.
      I dunno why, but I really love pieces written in Minor for some reason, like RV 420 Cello in A Minor, and RV 416 Cello in G Minor.
      Some of my favorite ones from Vivaldi are actually in E Minor, like RV 432 Flute, and RV 484 Bassoon. And these other E pieces: Spring is an awesome E Major piece, and Winter's 2nd Mov in Eb Major is really lovely.

    I mean I know it’s just the title but to answer your question there is so many concertos in D is because D major is one of the open string key so it is commonly used and since D major is used D minor will probably also be used as a minor version or that for a more depressing effect,

      Also it is because of the tuning of the old keyboard instruments. Before mid 1700 they did not use the equal temperament, so the semitones weren’t all equal, the implication being that it was litterally impossible to play in some keys. That also explains why the keyboard works share always the same tonalities and why Bach’s “Well tempered clavier” has this title. Bach was one of the first composers who applied sistematically the equal temperament, and composed that work in that manner to show the world that it was possible to play in any tonality. And this also explains why the not so common tonality of C minor for his Passacaglia & Fugue.
      All the instruments were de facto tuned after the keyboards, so they played always in those 5/6 tonalities, the exceptions being very rare.

      Are you familiar with relative minors? D’s relative minor would be B, and that would give it the appropriate minor third sound. I don’t think this is why though, I think it’s because D has 2 sharps, it’s not an overcomplicated key to write in, and can easily modulate to G and C, which many classical pieces are written in. Just why I think D was used so much.

    • @PierrePblais
      @PierrePblais 4 роки тому +3

      @@TheEternalWayfarer This is not entirely true. You are confusing equal temperament and the more general notion of a tempered tuning, which are not the same. it is important to note first that equal temperament as we view and use today was not possible until the turn of the 20th century with a way to measure frequencies and pitch precisely. Equal temperement was acheived in Bach's time and throughout most of classical music's history by perceiving beating fifth, and was actually not truely equal, but that's beside the point. Bach was in favor of a well tempered system, but his system was most likely one of Werkmeister temperament in which the fifth narrows as you circle through the cycle of fifth, but even that is uncertain, only that Bach did not use actual equal temperament. www.math.uwaterloo.ca/~mrubinst/tuning/tuning.html
      "Contrary to what you've been taught, Bach did not compose the Well Tempered Clavier to promote the equal tempered tuning system. Equal temperament actually did not come into use until the *20th* century. Bach's motivation for composing the WTC was to demonstrate the feasability of composing in well temperament and to demostrate the varying key colors in well tempered tuning as one progresses around the circle of fifths. The various well temperaments used in Bach's time are distinct from our equal temperament. Well temperament represented a departure from the various meantone tunings that were used in earlier music.
      [...]
      The well temperaments used throughout the 17 and 18 hundreds also allow one to modulate amongst different keys. However, the octave is not divided into equal steps. Rather, some semi tones are smaller and some are larger. Overall, perfect fifths tend to be pretty close, while the quality of major thirds varies around the circle of fifths, with the more unstable major thirds tending to fall on the black keys, giving the various keys different characteristics. "

    *D major* signify *Dignity* shining like _Diamond._
    *D minor* signify *Destiny* Demanding _Determined soul._
    actually, many composers decide on the key as the symbolic sign of what they want to express. c major for clarity and light, a major for loveliness and exotic, b major for full of emotion and deep sentiment, so forth.
    and also there is a technical issue. certain keys are played easier with certain instruments, so if the composer wants to highlight specific instrument, the choice of the keys narrow down to fit the instrument.
    twoset being professional musicians they probably already know this, it is quite often said in classical music, i just wrote it because i like to see what others say about it.
    watching this video i sort of feel that in a few years we might see twoset publish their very full version recording as serious debut album. if they keep practicing.🌸🎵

      just in case you're interested, my theory would be that on the cello and double bass (and viola, but who cares about the viola) the lowest string is a C. So, writing in a key of D makes it so that those instruments can still actually do a vibrato when playing the lowest root note

    • @alexanderjam7459
      @alexanderjam7459 5 років тому +3

      Tom Vos Music - also a very comfortable key for violins to play in, although once you reach the virtuosity of a concerto I suppose that doesn’t make a massive difference. Still makes rapid scales, arpeggios, and chords easier though.
