Hi, as a pianist I’d like to share my theory of four difficulties in music. In my opinion there are four main ways for a piece to be difficult. One: physically difficult. It will make your hands hurt, or your hands will be to small, or certain passages are too fast/awkward to play naturally. The first piece I think of for this is Chopin prelude 1, because I have small hands and I can’t practice it more than twice before my arms hurt. Two: technically difficult. Polyrhythms, strange chords, weird counting, or other things that make your brain hurt. I don’t know if a specific piece I’ve had this with, but different measures of different pieces contain this. Three: artistically difficult. This is the most elusive, because there aren’t as many things you can do to fix this. If something is beyond your level of musical maturity, often you’re just screwed. For me, this was Mozart Adagio k540. The interpretation for that piece took me over a year after I learned to “play” it. Finally, the fourth only comes into play on certain occasions. Difficult to memorize. Whether it’s length, repetition, or stress, often some pieces feel impossible to memorize. When I first began to learn it, I constantly felt like I was getting “lost” in the pages of moonlight sonata.
@@SoumyaSingh-mp9ck lol i hear brett being called a boi so often it feels weird to see him called a man for a milisecond my brain was like "wait, who?"

True, and anyone writing an orchestral piece will be writing for a bunch of instruments they can't play. I've always wondered if there's a difference between concertos written by a composer who specialised in playing that instrument and knows it well and one who didn't, though.
Patrick Smith Erlkonig isn’t too hard, but the Liszt transcription of it for solo piano is. Schubert really couldn’t play the piano part of the lieder?

It just sounds like a different instrument when Hilary plays it. There are notes where she’s so gentle and soft that it sounds like flute. You never hear her bow “crunch” or any discordance. It’s unbelievable how beautiful she makes this instrument sound when other great violinists sometimes have issues with grating notes or hearing the bow too much.
If you really watch Hilary play, she has immaculate bow control! Oh, & teeny tiny delicate fingers too. 🤣My fat sausage fingers slam two strings on a bass guitar! Nevermind attempting an instrument so small!🤣
I hope you are safe and things get better :( if you are in lockdown it is tricky being around each other 24/7. And if not, the stress of a pandemic and global recession can add on to anyone’s everyday life stress. Be kind to yourself. And get help if you need it xxx
As an operatic tenor, these pieces are absolutely insane. There isn't a lot of super flashy, supersonic scales and runs in vocal music. The closest we can get to that "Paganini" style virtuosity is in some baroque pieces with all the melismatic runs. I've even done one of those from the Messiah. I wonder if it's at all possible to do these crazy tricks with the voice....?
I'd like to know the names of the soloists who aren't Hahn and Vengerov. I wish Brett and Eddy or editor-san at least mentioned them. :-( EDIT: looks like they just took the top result for each piece. The Ysaye was played by Hadelich and Paganini by Zimmerman.

Hilary Hahn playing Erlkönig
Them: Notices something in the phrase
Me: Staring at the towel on her chin rest
Same, she looks so professional 😍 and I love the camera work - her hair is bomb to
The_only_ Tr1v1a Brett, is that you?
She has the towel there because she will sweat and I think it ruins the violin
@@mh.quite.914 In the TwoSet video about violin repair, the luthier talks about how if the varnish around the chin rest starts wearing a bit, the oils from your chin can saturate the violin so much that the glue wont hold, and it cannot be repaired or reglued.
She plays it off time.. 35/100
Brett: *does anything*
Eddy: BRETT VOLUNTEERS FOR TRIBUTE!
I was a person who loves the violin but I am not that serious about it. I use it to like relax and do it when I am bored. But now after watching Twosetviolin I started to treat violin more seriously. I am still like a amature violinist but now I am starting to learn vibrato. But as I watch more and more of these videos I became more interested in the violin and started practicing more which really helped me. Thanks Twosetviolin!!! You guys are awesome!
Pathetique is another Beethoven that I found hard to memorise
Music is just difficult in general lol
Everyone knows this
Liszt did his own version of the Erlking (spelling?) and it fits into your first category. It is absolutely exhausting to play.
Jaquan Xanthan Well,I don’t.
We are going to see a lot of pieces by Brett in the coming years
Hopefully! The man's got a lot of potential than he gives himself credit for

As a non- musician Two-setter, my 40 hours practice consists of binge watching Twosetviolin content.
i'm a musician and I still do that..
"Imagine you composed a piece so hard you couldn't play it."
*shame*
Hahah
*i do that*
Not sure if this is what you're referencing, but apparently Schubert couldn't play Erlkoenig (on the piano)
I mean, there's people who write concertos for instruments they can't play, you know
True, and anyone writing an orchestral piece will be writing for a bunch of instruments they can't play.
Eddy: "You can't make a sound"
Brett: *makes a sound*

Eddy you can’t tell Brett to play Ysaye until you play Sibelius lol
YES
Le's not forget: Brett has to play Ysaye when 2set hit 4M subs
Everytime I hear the recording of Hilary Hahn playing "Erlkönig" I wonder where the second violinist is hiding
6:34 Brett needs to prepare for Ysaye - Sonata No.6
And last rose of summer
It just sounds like a different instrument when Hilary plays it. There are notes where she’s so gentle and soft that it sounds like flute. You never hear her bow “crunch” or any discordance. It’s unbelievable how beautiful she makes this instrument sound when other great violinists sometimes have issues with grating notes or hearing the bow too much.
right!!! she has such a sweet tone
Hilary doesnt know the word crunch xD
If you really watch Hilary play, she has immaculate bow control! Oh, & teeny tiny delicate fingers too. 🤣My fat sausage fingers slam two strings on a bass guitar! Nevermind attempting an instrument so small!🤣
AT 4MIL NOW ITS TIME
Honestly the crunch or dissonance gives me the same vibe as a vocal fry and to me seems more expressive
Brett and Eddy's friendship is more healthy than my relationship

Demon of piano: Liszt
Demon of organ: Bach
Demon of Piano is Rachmaninoff
Ahhh yes haha
piano Chopin
Bach is actually a demonic musician 😳
@@a.s.8607 Mereaux, Alkan, etc: what
As an operatic tenor, these pieces are absolutely insane.
#5 Bach - Chaconne
#4 Ernst - Erlkönig
#3 Ysaÿe - Sonata No. 6
#2 Ernst - Last Rose of Summer
#1 Paginini - God Save the King

I'd like to know the names of the soloists who aren't Hahn and Vengerov. I wish Brett and Eddy or editor-san at least mentioned them. :-( EDIT: looks like they just took the top result for each piece. The Ysaye was played by Hadelich and Paganini by Zimmerman.
I think because they’ve met Hahn and Vengarov they have a special place for them in their musical hearts
Thank you

What about Ning Feng, or Sivann Maayani Zelikoff
