@@TheBinklemNetwork I wouldn't call that green either dark or subtle. It's midrange at most. Dark and subtle would be forest greens. Forest green is an upper-class color; olive drab is a lower-class color, at least in the US. Some greens are associated with criminality and dishonesty. Green is my favorite color range, but it pays to be aware. Best idea that I ever heard: take note of the colors used in upper class clothing and stick to them as closely as possible. That way, you avoid unfortunate associations. I try to be as conservative as possible in my color choices because I was raised in a working-class town, so my color sense isn't upper class (to say the least). Back in the 1970s and 1980s, John T. I love the way Preston explains every topic. Colors are not an easy item to choose for our clothes. These videos are great and useful. Greetings from Argentina.
Loving to see the bloopers and clips, (those at 7:00 was hilarious!) it makes the video more spontaneous. I would also love to hear different background music such as jazz
Feeling even better about my vintage red (slightly muted/pale) sport jacket now, and will feel even better when my complementing silk bow ties arrive :P
I actually think one of the coolest and most positively striking color matches I've seen is browns and darker, more burnt oranges. It feels very western influenced, in a way, perhaps because it makes me think of arid climates and desert colors. I just really love how they go together though.
Interestingly as I've been assembling my wardrobe, what brought me here is helping understand colors a little better. I find that I gravitate towards brown, blue, and green, which ironically are also my eye colors.
For me, the black suit has its advantages just like the other suits in my wardrobe. There are certain colour ties that I wouldn't wear with any other suit actually.
I agree that brown is underrated. I used to hate it growing up. As a teen my favorite colors were red and black, but nowadays I'm the most drawn to brown and blue. I feel more confident wearing those colors but in a soohing way instead of a bold, attention-seeking way. Your descriptions of blue, brown and also green do fit me very well. I wish you had covered turqoise/teal as well though! It's an odd color that's rarely ever seen. I try to incorporate it into my outfits sometimes. Although I don't find much use for my turqoise pants lol, but my scarf that has a checkered mix of wine red and teal comes to much more use. It seems to be a controversial color that many people have a difficult time with, as though they're trying to decide whether it's blue or green. But I think it looks great with wine red, pink (as you said), yellow, black and brown. Also your description of orange was so spot on for my best friend that I laughed out loud, remembering how much I've cringed over the bright orange down jacket they bought a few years ago.
Most of my closet are blues, which is not just because it's a color I love, but one that I think suits me. I've got brown hair and brown eyes, and blue and brown make a really striking match color wise. It's no surprise I like to integrate a lot of brown into my style too, often with the blues, which creates a nice contrast that just works for me, and feels very reminiscent of 70s era color matching more than anything while still being timeless.
I do admit that I have a lot of black and grey, and when I picked up a strong blue and red, people actually noticed at the office. And yes, I do tend to grey and black so I fade into the background.
I don’t feel too good about the scientific points, but generally this is a good video. Mentioning the feelings evoked, and what people can infer about you if quite helpful. And I’m sticking to my initial choice of being bold and mixing up different sets of purple, yellow, orange, and green. It’s going to be quite difficult so wish me luck. 😂. I may even make it overly excessive for affect. Hope this helps others!!
My most worn color is black, then , white, then red, then charcoal grey. Black adidas sweater, dark Grey undershirt, black ripped jeans, red and white af1. Or black and white drkshadow chuck 70s. Or all white basketball shoes
A video with ivory, off white, and winter white would be greatly appreciated! What do you wear with these colors that doesn't make them look dirty, dingy, or that you forgot to use bleach when you did your laundry?
I often wear blue or pink dress shirts, even when wearing a jacket or complete suit. It's quite different, as most businessmen here in Japan wear only pure white shirts with navy or black suit: the "salaryman uniform." They will wear the exact same combination every day, all day. Their ties are usually muted and boring, too, and pocket squares and boutonnieres don't exist. Doing what I can to teach them they can do better!
I have a question about your suit ironing video, the same rules apply to ironing a thick pea coat? Or should I take it to the dry cleaner to have it ironed?
🤔 I guess when one goes on a date, make sure you give yourself a leg up wearing the right colors for the desired outcome. Wearing the appropriate colors is like subtle physiological comms. Note well taken.
While it is true that black can be overrated, over the years I have come to the conclusion that Gentleman's Gazette consistently underrates black. Black is powerful. That's why it remains the most prominent color in the most formal dress codes: White Tie, Black Tie, Morning Dress. Of course there are more and less effective ways to wear black, and "just wear black" is certainly an over-simplification. But if it fits your personality, I say embrace it. I wore a lot of black in my younger years, but branched away from it largely from what I learned here, at the Gentleman's Gazette. But now that I know the rules, I am ready to break them. It depends; the advice will be different depending on what court. For family court or a traffic ticket, don't wear jeans. Judges consider it disrespectful.
