I don’t understand all the negative comments on Preston as a presenter. I think he does a great job, not just a great job for his age, but a great job. Period.

It is unclear to me why UA-cam recommended these videos to me, a female, but I watch them with enjoyment even though I do not always agree with everything said. What I do NOT enjoy, however, is the rudeness of some of the individuals who make comments. Personal attacks are never appropriate and certainly are not gentlemanly. Constructive criticism is one thing, but I have seen some truly brutal personal comments posted after some of the videos and directed at both of the presenters. I do not understand why those posters are on a site intended for gentlemen. Certainly people should feel free to criticize, provided their criticism is intelligent, polite, and constructive; otherwise, they are just trolls. I enjoy Preston Schlueter's delivery. The speed of his delivery is perfect, not too fast and not too slow, and so is his enunciation. Never do I have an issue understanding anything he says. If some people find his delivery a little stiff or unnatural, I am sure that will cease to be an issue with time; I have noticed improvement just in the few weeks that I have been watching the videos, although I never found him displeasing to begin with. In other words, cut him some slack; sometimes it takes a little while to get comfortable in front of a camera.

Many of these principles can be applied to women’s fashions as well, and it really helps me buy good gifts for the gentlemen in my life. Both presenters are informed, articulate, and enjoyable. I'd rather use my Late Grandfather's suit, he was my build and was a sharp dresser. I still wear his wool overcoat from 1952, keeps me warmer than any down parka I could own and looks ten times better. Great video.
Amazed at the ignorance and rudeness at some of the comments; there are some who just seem to be permanently angry with someone or something else, and rather than deal with that honestly, they make personal remarks about a person they don't know at all. This young man is extremely tall, quite thin, and clearly has a degree of physical disability: that does not make it acceptable to mock him. And anyway, there's nothing to mock - he dresses well; his advice is good; his voice is clear and understandable, which is very useful for those of us with hearing problems - sheer volume is no use to me, for one. Even the worst of comments here aren't as bad as some things you'll find on UA-cam - but that doesn't make rudeness, cruelty, and offensiveness any better. To the one who said 'this guy creeps me out' - well if so, go and watch someone more to your taste. What creeps me out are people who can master a computer keyboard, but can't manage to stop themselves behaving like jerks.
Great video! I enjoy bending the rules slightly, when appropriate. I personally enjoy Preston’s good use of English and his clear annunciation. Too many of us get sloppy with our speech. There’s just something special about Preston that I like. I feel like he’s the announcer on my favorite radio show, or that teacher whose class I really enjoy.
I’ve been a person who likes dressing in suits for over 30 years since I was 18 years old. I find myself agreeing with your videos and even learn new things. I show these video to my kid because videos on table manners was a great way to learn and the video has enough humor to keep my kid entertained as well. Keep up the good work and I look forward to watching more videos.

Honest suggestion for the cinematography: zoom out. The presenter has a natural weight shift and uses hand gestures. This is fine except the frame of the video is cutting him off at the bust. Thus a relaxed, confident demeanor becomes an odd, un-natural lean with hands hovering at the bottom of the screen. You have a competent speaker. Play to his strengths.
I like Preston. I see people say otherwise, but both Preston and Sven have their own unique delivery and are better suited for different subjects. On-point delivery man! Thank you for the continuous stream of great videos!
Perhaps it's because I'm older (61) but trousers with belt loops and no belt look goofy; like the person didn't finish dressing. I see it fairly often so I suspect it's just me. :-)

I am absolutely looking forward to the "body type" video because I have found myself wearing the "Olymp No.6 super slim fit" shirts way to frequently. They look really good and by now I almost consider them to be "muffin top proof". Hassle free so to say. That is until I take off my jacket. At that moment I go from razor sharp businessman to upscale nightclub bouncer.
I'm late to this party. Style is coming later in my life. At 40 years old I am learning. I haven't seen the negative comments, I don't go looking for them. But you, Preston, are an excellent presenter. I am watching as many videos as I can and I have not found one presented by you I have not enjoyed. Thank you for all the information.
I don't really like to compare those channels to the Gentleman's Gazette because those channels tend to gear more towards casual style and they have many videos which the youth can actually follow. To make it simpler, I consider the advices of this channel as more advanced and sophisticated compared to the channels you mentioned which I think give simpler and easier tips for men of all ages.
Another thing special about this channel is that the Gentleman's Gazette doesn't endorse random brands for sponsorship. They actually pick sponsors carefully compared to the other channels.
The presenter is fine. He's giving good advice and content, I think the negative comments come from the fact that this is partly a style channel and his "style" doesn't seem natural.
Even though I've never heard of these "style rules" from anyone and thus the video is a little silly to me, this channel is by far one of the best classic/elegant menswear youtubes (if anyone has any suggestions for similar content please tag me). Several people mentioned that they prefer Sven to Preston and personally, I can go for either. Maybe in the beginning Preston wasn't as smooth as Sven but now he's doing just fine.
Quality information with in depth suggestions while being upfront. Thank you for the video not a bad way to start next years shopping with tips like these.
These are cracking videos. I agree with the main point: the inclination of men to follow 'rules' is an expression of how insecure we are about clothes. Well done for using your influence to buck this trend.
For color harmony it might help to think of color like music. Black and white are your major and minor chords. The colors in between are like musical notes that bridge those two chords together and create harmony. Always use your eyes when matching colors just like you should use your ears when writing music.
So I'm kinda new to this channel but I know who Sven is and at first I was a little confused about Preston (since this is my first time watching Preston). I will say I love Preston as a presenter and I hope to see more of him
In support of #3, specifically about shoes: I watch a channel from a cobbler, who posts videos of himself repairing shoes. He does some high-end work, and is often entrusted with the most expensive shoes to repair -- and charges accordingly, as some of his repairs require hours of work. Many of the shoes he works on are constructed so as to be worth the cost, but sometimes he works on shoes from expensive European designer houses and it's pretty clear one is just paying for the label. Cardboard heel blocks and midsoles, slapdash stitching or all-glued construction, and other inferior materials and techniques abound, and then you find out these shoes might cost as much as 4 figures! The things are probably not meant to be worn for more than one season, to go with that season's styles, to be tossed out and replaced when the new styles come around in the next year.
Great presentation! Agree there should only be guidelines and each individual needs to choose his own set for his own time, place, and social circumstances. I still follow no white after Labor Day to Easter as just going to get muddy in sloppy weather. Plus, ingrained in me and old habits die hard. Even hard to wear bright colours during this time too. There also is the rule about no more than three colors to be worn at the same time. I find this to be helpful as keeps focused and not look like a clown.
Some topics I would love to see covered on GG: - Deep dive on shirt collars: shape, construction and a bit of history - Matching tie knots to collar shapes and widths - Repairs: How to choose an alteration/repair tailor or shoe repair shop, how much and how often to invest in repairs, and when to call it quits and retire a hard-worn garment or pair of shoes. - How the classic menswear industry is making itself more inclusive to men with unique needs, and where it needs to work harder (e.g. In Japan, I've come across tailors with silhouettes for men who use wheelchairs, i've met trans men who are apprehensive about visiting a tailor, etc) - Ideas and influences on classic menswear that come from unexpected places (e.g. countries that are not the US, UK, Italy, France and India, from womenswear, resource scarcity, etc) - How to shop while you are far away from home (e.g. finding shops, using your time wisely, crossing language/cultural barriers, dealing with emergencies, etc) - How to distinguish real quality from heritage, in an age where brands are continually changing (and in some cases making up) their story and quality standards.
I went to a mens conference called No Regrets and I was rocking some nice khakis, reddish brown semi brogue Allen Edmonds, white shirt a nice orange Brooks Brothers tie that had little navy blue squares with a Navy Blue Blazer with a brown striped pocket square and I got lots of compliments. Thanks to the Gentleman's Gazette for all the information I picked up.
I appreciate this one, because I can't stand being a clone of fashion like most men the follow every style to the T. I take great honor in originality, taking styles, and tweeking it to fit my personality. Thanks very much.
If only I had GG when I was in high school I'd have saved so much money with Rule 2. As for Rule 10, I like matching my socks to my shirt or sweater rather than my pants because I like the contrast, but in more formal situations I'll usually go with greys or dark blues to not be too flashy. Well... The rule about wearing sunglasses with hats (fedora, boater, & etc). I remember seeing a GG video about wearing sunglasses with hats as a no no. However, in a video (Men's hat anatomy & vocab) a year after that video uses examples of people wearing hats with sunglasses. In my opinion, that is a rule to break, bend, or disregard. Great video by the way.
For those of us who travel often, having a large wardrobe is more a burden than a benefit; and I must concur with quality outweighing quantity. As for 5A, I break the monochromatic ideology frequently as I have adopted the ivy style. I love using color in my outfits as a way to set me apart from the crowd...and if you do it right, women will notice you more. This ties into number 4. To me, fashion trends are like new cars; shiny, bold styling on the outside with the latest gadgetry, but likely to not last very long.
I love this video, Preston! The information is clear and well-organized. The cadence and pitch of his voice makes it that much better. Also, I don’t know if anyone has mentioned this, but Preston looks like Taron Egerton (Eggsy from Kingsman)... and that’s a MAJOR positive for ladies who enjoy that look... like me :)
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this guy presenting. He was very clear and succinct. This just reveals the sheer level of idiocy from the public. They must hate themselves if they can't see the good in this presenter... He was pleasant.
I know it’s a rather late comment on the video, but there we are. I enjoyed this video personally, as I do most other Gentleman’s Gazette videos. I would just like to raise a point about the, ‘no brown in town’ rule. Yes, I should agree that this is a slightly antiquated rule, however it must be pointed out that this was originally with regards to the colour of one’s shoes. Brown shoes were always reserved for outdoor pursuits such as shooting or hunting. The style of such shoes was to include broguing - and thus brown shoes are most commonly brogued. As a result of the nature in which these shoes were worn, shoes falling into this category were viewed as too casual for wear in the city, where people would work and thus dress smartly. While this rule may indeed have been a way for aristocracy to distinguish themselves from parvenus, it was still a valid point. Brown shoes for country and outdoor events, black for city events! A matter of casual versus smart. In the modern era, however, as more and more people have ignored this rule, the norm now includes the wearing of brown or brogued shoes in town. Although as you quite correctly point out, it is still highly uncommon if not particularly shocking to see brown shoes in an office setting due to their inherently casual nature.
A great video... lots of good points. I do want to say that I really like your attitude of "at the end this is you, find what your style is". Far to often I've heard people treat the rules for men's dress like they were brought down from a mountain on stone tablets.

Having a lot of clothes or garments is 1 thing. The MAIN thing is to take proper care & store your clothes, shoes, coats, hats, etc properly. 😉. Dust, lint, moths, odors, stains etc can make your nice clothes or accessories wear out fast.

I am absolutely looking forward to the "body type" video because I have found myself wearing the "Olymp No.6 super slim fit" shirts way to frequently. They look really good and by now I almost consider them to be "muffin top proof". Hassle free so to say. That is until I take off my jacket. At that moment I go from razor sharp businessman to upscale nightclub bouncer.

I'm late to this party. Style is coming later in my life. At 40 years old I am learning. I haven't seen the negative comments, I don't go looking for them. But you, Preston, are an excellent presenter. I am watching as many videos as I can and I have not found one presented by you I have not enjoyed. Thank you for all the information.

I don't really like to compare those channels to the Gentleman's Gazette because those channels tend to gear more towards casual style and they have many videos which the youth can actually follow. To make it simpler, I consider the advices of this channel as more advanced and sophisticated compared to the channels you mentioned which I think give simpler and easier tips for men of all ages.
Another thing special about this channel is that the Gentleman's Gazette doesn't endorse random brands for sponsorship. They actually pick sponsors carefully compared to the other channels.
Alpha M yells at you. I don't really like being yelled at for ten straight minutes. If I did I'd just go hang out with my ex girlfriend.

The presenter is fine. He's giving good advice and content, I think the negative comments come from the fact that this is partly a style channel and his "style" doesn't seem natural.
Even though I've never heard of these "style rules" from anyone and thus the video is a little silly to me, this channel is by far one of the best classic/elegant menswear youtubes (if anyone has any suggestions for similar content please tag me). Several people mentioned that they prefer Sven to Preston and personally, I can go for either. Maybe in the beginning Preston wasn't as smooth as Sven but now he's doing just fine.
Preston looks like Marcus Halberstram from the movie "American Psycho". Keep up the good work guys!

For color harmony it might help to think of color like music. Black and white are your major and minor chords. The colors in between are like musical notes that bridge those two chords together and create harmony. Always use your eyes when matching colors just like you should use your ears when writing music.
So I'm kinda new to this channel but I know who Sven is and at first I was a little confused about Preston (since this is my first time watching Preston). I will say I love Preston as a presenter and I hope to see more of him

In support of #3, specifically about shoes: I watch a channel from a cobbler, who posts videos of himself repairing shoes. He does some high-end work, and is often entrusted with the most expensive shoes to repair -- and charges accordingly, as some of his repairs require hours of work. Many of the shoes he works on are constructed so as to be worth the cost, but sometimes he works on shoes from expensive European designer houses and it's pretty clear one is just paying for the label. Cardboard heel blocks and midsoles, slapdash stitching or all-glued construction, and other inferior materials and techniques abound, and then you find out these shoes might cost as much as 4 figures! The things are probably not meant to be worn for more than one season, to go with that season's styles, to be tossed out and replaced when the new styles come around in the next year.

Great presentation! Agree there should only be guidelines and each individual needs to choose his own set for his own time, place, and social circumstances.
I still follow no white after Labor Day to Easter as just going to get muddy in sloppy weather. Plus, ingrained in me and old habits die hard. Even hard to wear bright colours during this time too.
There also is the rule about no more than three colors to be worn at the same time. I find this to be helpful as keeps focused and not look like a clown.
Some topics I would love to see covered on GG:
- Deep dive on shirt collars: shape, construction and a bit of history
- Matching tie knots to collar shapes and widths
- Repairs: How to choose an alteration/repair tailor or shoe repair shop, how much and how often to invest in repairs, and when to call it quits and retire a hard-worn garment or pair of shoes.
- How the classic menswear industry is making itself more inclusive to men with unique needs, and where it needs to work harder (e.g. In Japan, I've come across tailors with silhouettes for men who use wheelchairs, i've met trans men who are apprehensive about visiting a tailor, etc)
- Ideas and influences on classic menswear that come from unexpected places (e.g. countries that are not the US, UK, Italy, France and India, from womenswear, resource scarcity, etc)
- How to shop while you are far away from home (e.g. finding shops, using your time wisely, crossing language/cultural barriers, dealing with emergencies, etc)
- How to distinguish real quality from heritage, in an age where brands are continually changing (and in some cases making up) their story and quality standards.
I went to a mens conference called No Regrets and I was rocking some nice khakis, reddish brown semi brogue Allen Edmonds, white shirt a nice orange Brooks Brothers tie that had little navy blue squares with a Navy Blue Blazer with a brown striped pocket square and I got lots of compliments. Thanks to the Gentleman's Gazette for all the information I picked up.
I appreciate this one, because I can't stand being a clone of fashion like most men the follow every style to the T. I take great honor in originality, taking styles, and tweeking it to fit my personality. Thanks very much.
If only I had GG when I was in high school I'd have saved so much money with Rule 2. As for Rule 10, I like matching my socks to my shirt or sweater rather than my pants because I like the contrast, but in more formal situations I'll usually go with greys or dark blues to not be too flashy. Well... The rule about wearing sunglasses with hats (fedora, boater, & etc). I remember seeing a GG video about wearing sunglasses with hats as a no no. However, in a video (Men's hat anatomy & vocab) a year after that video uses examples of people wearing hats with sunglasses. In my opinion, that is a rule to break, bend, or disregard. Great video by the way.
For those of us who travel often, having a large wardrobe is more a burden than a benefit; and I must concur with quality outweighing quantity. As for 5A, I break the monochromatic ideology frequently as I have adopted the ivy style. I love using color in my outfits as a way to set me apart from the crowd...and if you do it right, women will notice you more. This ties into number 4. To me, fashion trends are like new cars; shiny, bold styling on the outside with the latest gadgetry, but likely to not last very long.

I know it’s a rather late comment on the video, but there we are.
I enjoyed this video personally, as I do most other Gentleman’s Gazette videos. I would just like to raise a point about the, ‘no brown in town’ rule. Yes, I should agree that this is a slightly antiquated rule, however it must be pointed out that this was originally with regards to the colour of one’s shoes.
Brown shoes were always reserved for outdoor pursuits such as shooting or hunting. The style of such shoes was to include broguing - and thus brown shoes are most commonly brogued. As a result of the nature in which these shoes were worn, shoes falling into this category were viewed as too casual for wear in the city, where people would work and thus dress smartly.
While this rule may indeed have been a way for aristocracy to distinguish themselves from parvenus, it was still a valid point. Brown shoes for country and outdoor events, black for city events! A matter of casual versus smart.
In the modern era, however, as more and more people have ignored this rule, the norm now includes the wearing of brown or brogued shoes in town. Although as you quite correctly point out, it is still highly uncommon if not particularly shocking to see brown shoes in an office setting due to their inherently casual nature.

I do want to say that I really like your attitude of "at the end this is you, find what your style is". Far to often I've heard people treat the rules for men's dress like they were brought down from a mountain on stone tablets.

Preston moves like an Alien who's just been given a human body and is learning how to use it , saying that he's becoming a great presenter.
Having a lot of clothes or garments is 1 thing. The MAIN thing is to take proper care & store your clothes, shoes, coats, hats, etc properly. 😉. Dust, lint, moths, odors, stains etc can make your nice clothes or accessories wear out fast.
Pedantic perhaps, but it’s definitely smart to master the rules before bending, breaking, or disregarding them.
