I didn't know those spoilers were so strong that they could support a person's bodyweight.
The wing is made of magnesium, Light weight and extremely strong.
The whole thing with the Superbird/Daytona wing was that it wasn't just some fiberglass body add-on for styling, it was designed for the super speedways to give actual down force so it was made strong enough for someone to sit upon without collapsing. Of course the car guys put a pretty girl up there (usually in a short skirt) to get a nice view.
Not to say mistakes were not made lol
Unless you are a bodyman doing this sort of work,no one knows the real hard work this is to do for a living.The wealthy people just lay down the money. That`s the easy part.
That wing is very strong to be able to withstand the weight of a 100 to 120lb petite woman. Her posture is excellent as she poses sitting on the wing. She's a picture of health and the Mopar is very healthy looking too.
Years ago I researched the history of the Dodge Daytona and Plymouth Superbird. The vertical stabilizers were cast aluminum, and the horizontal airfoil was extruded aluminum, as was the racing hardware, in order to withstand the aerodynamic forces at 200 mph. The airfoil was positioned and torqued down using massive socket head cap screws.

It's a single stage paint so there is no clear coat. Those were the days before clear
with the bucks to have the car restored... they don't have to worry about three miles to the gallon.
still... doing the restoration yourself is way more satisfying. ... the experience of tracking down the parts needed and mixing with the mopar car culture along the way was missed by the current owners.

Yes in my superbird, in the trunk the wing is a structural component to the car, one big crossbeam
It's all about distribution. The wing is capable of over 1900 lbs of downforce on the rear of the cars at speed, but thats on the full surface area of the airfoil. Where her frame was contacting the airfoil, the stress was much more concentrated as you could see the airfoil flex downward under her weight. Re-watch the video,,, you can see it happen.

The wide gap around the front of hood and nose cone might be period correct? It still needs to go. Makes the whole car look like some afterthought or kit car.

'Kit' car was the first thing that I noticed, when they rolled it out, that gap sticks out like a sore thumb. I've seen a few SBs up close an the nose cone was always flush, something's not kosher here.
cameraman655 If the nose cone is "perfect fit" it's NOT right! The resto shop got it right as this is how they came from the factory. May not look the best but that's the way they came.
I said it may be period correct, but... It seemed to fit better on the before pics, too. But, whatever... Its what turned me off about the brand growing up. Doors that won't close one day or glass that just drops the the bottom of door out of no where. I guess K cars were the worst. I have come full circle and love them now, though! But that nose cone would fit perfect on my ride. Take points away if they must.

Am I the only one that thinks that the fitment between the front nose and the hood and fenders isn't quite right? They could have done a better job getting the gap closer.

Yeah, I could tell from the pre-restoration pics that it started out white but that's one I would have changed. Although it's probably a lot more rare because it is factory white and therefore more valuable.
