  • Few parks can match Kennywood when it comes to historic, hard-to-find rides and attractions. Among the most iconic is the Noah's Ark walkthrough funhouse. Once a common attraction at amusement parks, Kennywood is now home to the only Noah's Ark still in operation. 2016 marks the 80th season for Noah's Ark at Kennywood, and we're celebrating with a major renovation--including the restoration of a beloved feature that was removed in the 1990s.

Glad they restored it - there was a similar Noah's Ark in Blackpool Pleasure Beach for many decades, and I loved visiting it as a kid - sadly now gone though

Apparently we had one here in Maine but it burned down in '69 (I was born 20 years later) so I always wondered what the legendary funhouse was like that all the older folks talk about lol

At 1:03 the man in the purple shirt and yellow shorts is my dad. There are even photos of my dad wearing this exact outfit in photo albums. He said that he remembers seeing the camera that filmed him walking in, but he didn't know what it was for.

For me, the elevator scared me more. It was just too loud for me.

I lament each day that passes in which i still dont get to ride the 90s Noah's ark i grew up loving (probably partly helped kindle my love of Halloween actually.)
And the Gold Rusher. Id give absolutely anything just to go on them just one more time 😢

I'm glad I got the chance to experience the elevator version. the skeletons beneath a glass floor terrified 10yo me, but they left a lasting impression that I remember fondly to this day. Now at 40 yo, I'm also glad they returned the whale entrance as that was a classic entrance, even though not technically an original piece. the only thing i don't like about the current ark is a lot of the strange animatronics inside are now gone and replaced with realistic looking animals. I remember 2 "brothers" with huge heads and huge noses rocking back and forth sawing a log. I wish i could see footage of them again as they were so bizarre.

I'm glad to see that the submarine business was removed. It should be brought back to its original design,

Today I was at kennywood and it’s not even scary anymore it’s like u think something will pop out at any moment but really nothing happens it’s sad how much it changed and how it’s not a thriller anymore

So are they taking out the horror themes and bringing it back to the funhouse style?

I'm so excited for this. I never saw the 1960s noahs ark so this will be a whole new experience for me. So are scenes just like on the 1960s version returning? Was that snake from the 1960s version or the 2016 one?

  • @amoney1421

i miss the 1996 scary noahs ark, with the skeletons under the glass reaching up at you and the submarine part at the end getting attacked by the squid or just imploding on you. now kennywood is hellbent on turning the entire park into kiddieland apparently

When I went on this when I was ages 4-7 I was terrified of the skeletons (I didn't realize the glass was there and thought I had to walk on the poles😂) the gorilla (only one?) and the flooding room. I'd probably be less scared of it now considering I'm 15😂but I still wonder what i missed in there

I think I know a place where they could put it. Between volcano and Johnny rockets. They would need to take out cosmic chaos and they have the area where King Kahana was. They might need to make the path next to Parkside cafe a bit narrower though. When I went to kennywood this summer I thought it could fit there. It might be a bit smaller too. I could be wrong though.

+Coasterknight I don't understand -- Noah's Ark already has a place. Nothing needs to be removed. They're just renovating it to look more like how it used to. The whale's mouth would not take up that much space.

I agree, and by what I've heard around the water cooler (Keurig)....many folks don't like the "improvement" to The Old Mill either. Hey it is still nice to ride in the boat, but the bright day glow black light stuff just isn't doing it for many.
