- In this video I discuss the tiers for gear in FFXI. For this video I am only talking about 119 armor. The purpose of these tiers is to show the relative effective item level of different sets of 119 gear. Keep in mind that lower tier can still be very powerful to swap to for specific situations.

I would like to stress the fact that this is specifically for new/returning players who are overwhelmed and want a rule of thumb to help them break down the basics tiers for 119 gear. I am aware that this is a generalization and than some jobs will have BiS gear that is not listed at the top of this chart. When I post job guides I will go in to the gear that is best for each specific job.
Empyrean +1 would be in the B Tier with the Artifact +1 and Relic +1. I overlooked it while making this because at the moment it cannot be upgraded past +1 so for the purposes of this video (which looks at stats over utility) it is less desired. However, it has comparable stats to the B tier and it includes many pieces which are sought after for specific utility situations because they buff a particular job ability or skill. It is also highly likely that in the future it will have a +2 and +3 version.
Can you make an updated version of this list for late 2022? Nyame/empy+3 been confused.
I came back to FFXI around March of this year after a 12 year break. I'm still confused on how to know when I should be able to solo (with Trusts) certain fights/NMs. Many of them have a level next to the listing (124, 135, etc) but I usually fail above 124, even with three Flamma +1s and two +2s and a Malfeasance or an Eletta Scythe.
They need to hurry up with those empy gear upgrades. Been minor swap pieces for too long
So which ones shoudl I focus on when I get to 99. Sparks, homestead +1 and then Ambuscade right? All the others are fill in as we can?
Is a Corsair any good at 99, I want a job that will get me in even if im new to the game after a 13 year hiatus.
COR is *very* sought-after in the endgame. Their buffs and SC potential are coveted.
What about the Ratri+1 gear for DRK? That’s su3 but in my eyes it’s by far the best thing if you’re using Scythe. Maybe I’m wrong but I am a returner ^^
If you had to assign an arbitrary item level for each rank, what should it be? ... assuming that the worst available 119 armor is the baseline 119 level. For example, I've heard S rank tier is actually around 135-140. Thoughts?
That's not easy to say, but SE tends to focus on 5 level increments. You could say D rank = 119, C rank = 124, B rank = 129, A rank = 134, S rank = 139
As a generalization I can understand your ranking but I don’t feel it’s very accurate in regards to zitah gear. For instance Emicho haubert +1 for drk is BIS for TP in Accuracy situations and is not far behind valorous in regular situations as well. I would also argue that Adhemar jacket and bonnet is BIS TP for blue and other jobs that can use it. As well as sovereign gear for PLD all 5 pieces . For Sam w shining one Ryuo Tekko are pretty great. This is just off top of my head . I would refer new players to Ffxiah AH job guides before I would tell them to just go off a general guide.
Generally agree with your chart and it will help out newer players, but I don't think all +3 AF/Relic deserves to be up there; it really goes on a job-by-job basis.
The heavy Volte set should be S Tier as well, there's literally no better magic evasion/mitigation set for the jobs on those pieces.
Hey, first I will say that your previous ideas to help returning players were really good, especially doing chapter fights with poor 119 gear.
Now this on the other hand is the worst idea ever. Tiering gear like that is completely useless. What's the point in generalizing that AF+3 had overall high base stats when like you said it's not a reason to use it. New/Returning player will be completely confused and wont understand why he shouldnt use an S tier armor. You were just lazy here. There is no shortcuts here. Only way to tier armor is going job by job and piece by piece with explanation why something is better. tiering just by total base stats is totally stupid. Doesn't even show other general things like for example most SU3+1 being highest meva gear.
It is helpful for me, since I can think about how to progress through tiers as they relate to the content where they're acquired.
