I just fired up the trial version, and after a lengthy install (game itself, then figuring out the configs to get the screen res up to speed, Windower, PS4 controller hookup), the old school style gameplay actually still kind of holds up with all of the newer QoL tweaks. I quit way back during Promathia, had a bunch of jobs, with DRK my highest at lv63, and just recently 100% ditched FFXIV. I might actually get the full version and see how far I can get this time, now that I'm a little older and (hopefully lol) wiser since them early days.

Fave way to make gil? 1. Venus Orb+Mars Orb slave. If selling for 3m and 6m thats 9m for doing basically nothing. Of course getting each new slave 99 is the hard part but lets say you have 16 characters all earning 9m a month free for like 10 mins work. Its a lot of work (like ebisu rod) but once its there the pay off is clearly huge. Im not sure how many instances of something youd have to do to match 9m for 15 mins work. Lets say you get 1m from an hour fighting somehwere the other method would be 36m in an hour. Of course it relies on people buying them so some waiting time included

If you are willing to, and happy to pay that much for this game - then ain't nobody going to stop you. Or, if you have the disposable income you are willing to put into this game you could just flat out buy gil and not have to juggle 15 mules, and just spend the time playing the character you want to play.
@@nezkeys79 if you wanna put all that time in getting the mules up, more power to you. I barely have time to play one character. I'll just buy the Gil, and play what I enjoy.
Mercing will rapidly bring the game to a close if it carries on the way it is. It essentially is killing off the whole thing about people getting together and earning something, and that sense of achievement. The game is built on the concept of people getting together and doing content. Now people pay a merc, lot on an item in the pool and return to town, and then repeat the process. That player isn’t learning anything, removing the opportunity to create a battle with friends and linkshell members alike.
I disagree. People who are lazy wouldnt team up anyway and would probably just stop playing when forced to search groups for a long time. There are also people who simply dont have time to find a group or play frequently but for a short time (parents who play when kid is sleeping or make a homework etc.). The only chance to get some stuff for them is getting some thing merced. I also disagree about people dont learn anything, but this depends on who you hire for mercing. When I returned to game I had few things merced but I was allowed to be a part of strategy. So I was using my THF in whole Aeonic clear and I learned a lot. Not only about THF but all the jobs. I learned how tank had various approach for different mobs, how SCHs and BLMs executeed MB strategy. How melee zerg worked on something like woc (I learnt doing buffs in rotation there because I was on cor for those). I learnt all kind of strategy for HELMs in Reisen (People who merced stuff for me dont use SMNs zergs). What Im trying to say is that people willing to learn will learn a lot by watching people mercing stuff for them and can get tons of experience this way. Now if you choose a mercing group that use smn burn for everything and you go afk and return only to switch to next zone, then you will learn nothing, but thats your problem, not mercing in general.
I wholeheartedly agree with your opening remarks regarding mercing, but have concluded that it's not even a gray area. While not all mercs sell the gil they earn to RMT websites, or directly to players on discord, there are far, far, more that do than do not. Further, regardless of the actual percentage of mercs who are RMTing, which is irrlelevant, the very existence of mercs, most of whom will unscrupulously merc any content to anyone with no qualms. This makes it possible for someone with a brand new account to buy a couple of billion gil and pay mercs to gear them from A to Z with nothing which is not for sale, to include full aeonic clears, abyssea NMs for empyrean weapon drops, I've even seen the odd shout to requesting a merc to carry them thru nyzul&einherjar and assaults... smfh... In this way, people frequently get PL to 99 and 2100 JP, complete BiS sets, R15 REMAs, (including their Dyn-D W3 clears), sometimes even Master Trial reward lockstyle weapons, without ever actually playing that job in any content. This practice is common, which is responsible for the abysmal skill level of the average PUGger, as well as the unacceptable number of poseurs - impostors - frauds who typically stand around town trashing actual players and generally oozing toxicity, responding to anyone who calls them out for what they are by touting their BiS R15 REMAness which came entirely from mom's credit card.

Can you make a video for new players to make Gil? Anything besides Archeron Shield? I can’t even afford crafting or crystal transport or magic spells. Got the gear with sparks now I have to walk somewhere to get more sparks to turn in
As far as spells, I would suggest you see if there is an npc that sells the spells you need. If not then, you can possibly farm the spell from an enemy. Buying spells from the Auction House is typically expensive and not the best method. If you have not already done so, make sure you progress through Rhapsodies of Vana'diel as far as you can because that will save you some gil on crystal transport. I would also suggest leveling during the experience point sparks windows to gain sparks more quickly. The experience point windows are: Wednesday 3 PM EST - 7 PM EST, Sunday 7 AM - 11 AM, and Monday 11 PM - 3 AM. Another tip I would have for new players would be to always have signet. You can make a decent amount of gil selling stacks of crystals on the auction house.
Locations of a few npcs that sell low level spells: Port San d'Oria - (J-8) , Port Windurst - (H-8), Bastok Markets - (H-5), Selbina - (H-9), Lower Jeuno - (J-8), Lower Jeuno - (H-9)
cloudchief arcade thank you I appreciate your response. I’m at the point where I’ve got my sub job and I’ve come across something very very frustrating and I’m so frustrated with this game right now. I’m sorry to ask you but nothing is online about it. I set my sub job for WHM then realized I had to switch them in order to gain exp. I went to a nomad Moogle but when I try to change the sub job to make it my main job it won’t do anything, it just gives me that dud noise that means it can’t do it! I’m a BLM/WHM and it won’t let me switch to WHM/BLM so I can’t level up! What am I doing wrong! It let me switch to another job so I dunno what the problem is. Did they change the way it works?
Ok I had to make myself a completely different job as a main and a support and then reset to what I really was. Ridiculous. I’m going insane over this game. Sorry. And now I can’t spend sparks on an Archeron shield to sell bc I need to spend spark on equipment for the new sub job.
cloudchief arcade don’t I need the crystals to make things with? I’m also not sure how much to sell things for at the auction, everything seems completely overpriced
"Mercs" are only a thing on Asura, thank god. I actually wasn't even aware it was a thing, until a coworker of mine that also plays FFXI mentioned something about it. He plays on Asura, I don't, and I had never even heard of it before. It seems to me that the lowest of the low players have all moved to Asura lol, obviously not everyone, but it looks like every other server doesn't have a problem with mercs. I'll never move to Asura now after finding out about it. On a side note, nice video! I learned about a couple things I can do, for example the accolades.
I should have mentioned in the video, crafting is a good money maker. However, it requires quite a bit of time and gil investment beforehand. It is a good long term gil maker but not great for someone trying to make gil in the shorter term.
Crafting is still good for small change stuff (i.e. turning cheap mats into something commonly bought for double/triple the base). It is however extremely expensive and/or time consuming if you're aiming for the high cost goods. Unless you're a diehard crafter or doing it for personal goals, crafting is just not worth the time.
Co-signing this comment. Tizona's MP recovery is the bread and butter for keeping up BLU's ability to offer support/defend spamming White Wind and Occultation, especially when all your spells cost 10-20% of your MP pool and DPS wise it's barely behind Almace. Outside of that, this guide is absolutely solid.
That really depends on you. I think it is worth it. Is it worth it for everyone? Nope. If you ever played FFXI before and didn't like how time consuming it was, I think you would enjoy it. Or if you want to play a MMO where the progression bar isn't constantly moving then I think you would like. Either way it is a MMO and it does take time, energy, and effort to get thing done. Is that for you? That is a question that every individual needs to answer for them self because FFXI is not for everyone. Do you want a large world with loads of different content and tons of activities to explore lots of gear and equipment to obtain? Then I think it would be for you.
Yeah i concur i returned and went to asura. Its the most populated but that doesnt necessarily equate to meaning good. In fact Asura has loads of problems imo and ive neve loathed the game so much. So much so ive quit again. Here are the main two reasons: Mercs Bots Basically its just elitists asking for riduculous money for clears or levelling. Over 100m gil to fully job point something for example. Then you have bots in levelling or farming areas which are basically people with auto scripts set up to claim anything within 2 feet. Then you have the non bots or mercs just like you. What it equates to is a hot mess of competition that just makes you say things like "theres always some ass hat intefering"
@@nezkeys79 So sorry this has been your return. I'm personally on a smaller server (Phoenix) and it's wonderful. There are more then enough people to get things done and you aren't tripping over anyone to do them. My current linkshell is maybe 20 people but thats still more then enough to do and beat all end game content. You need to find yourself a dedicated group of non elite idiots and just focus on playing stuff with them. If you cant find that on Asura, you may need to go elsewhere. I wish you the best of luck!
@@shinchimax8609 yeah its not just that either. I loathe how long and cumbersome it is to log in via pol and once i am playing the game has major issues in combat as far as im concerned. Heres why...so lets say i pull 30 efts and bugards in escha zitah (on pld) and then when i try to engage it wont engage and when it does finally engage the enemies are spazzing out rotating around my character locking me inside them making it impossible to do anything properly (annoying as fuck if youre trying get them in front of you for ochains bonus). Usually tho and this is my second issue...trusts dont heal unless you are engaged. All of this leads to unneccesary deaths. Ive already deactivated the accounts (altho i can still login for a while as the payment only just came out my account). The thing is ive just bought stormblood and enjoying that. 11 recently has been and exercise in patience and temper control. I am defo ready to move to a server where people actually play together and im not fighting with bots and mercs everywhere i go
If your not lvl 99 then you should be after sparks instead of money. Use your sparks to purchase all the gear you need. It's in place so you do not need money at the lower levels. There used to be a market for crafting and gear selling early on but most people are at end game or working up lower level jobs. You only really need money after 99 when your buying items to work on mythic weapons or purchasing high end armor. Just follow your Rhapsodies guide and you will be fine until those days get to you.
Yes, there are still a lot of FFXI players. The distribution of players across servers is not even though. On my server, Asura there are almost always over 2000 people online (many more during peak NA times). However, on many server there might only be 500-1000.
@Charzey Good point. I guess f2p games never get updates cause they just can't make money . I guess I should say its a shame the free private servers aren't as complete without expansion updates.
@Charzey Thank you for your well thought out posts and personal concern for my finances. I enjoyed trio boxing this game for years and its a shame i can't enjoy the outdated game mechanics anymore. To me, its just not worth the sub, but I am glad others still enjoy game. After the 75 LV cap break it lost much of its magic for me.
I tried to get into FFXI as a new player, but i couldn't even level past the wall of bots walling me off from quest mob kills. A shame really, the game was great. But there are claim-bots everywhere, so be warned.
Not sure what which quest mobs you are referring to. I would agree that claimbots can be annoying, although they are quite beatable. However, I can't think of any quest mobs that would be heavily camped.
@@cloudchiefarcade Literally the first limit break quest is where I ran into these claim bots. I made a reddit post about it 4 months ago when it happened, and was shamed by the community saying "What did you expect starting FFXI so late?". Awful community. The mob being claimbotted were the Explosures. After moving forward, more and more mobs, particularly limit break mobs, were contested. I'm pretty blown away by how toxic the community is in talking about this problem, its why I quit. Have a read, if you like. www.reddit.com/r/ffxi/comments/a75erb/bots_in_ffxi/ Maybe i had an outlying experience?
@@joevader10 the community told you that you didnt have to kill mobs for the drops anymore but you didnt want to listen. play on a private server and get over yourself
Merc - Short for Mercenary. Selling content to other players. They sell job points, armor drops, content clears etc. It is fairly common on Asura unfortunately.
@@Nightweaver1 all the people paying for this stuff should just go to another server where people will team up and do it for free like the game was intended. Id love to see asura just be a bunch of mercs as none of them would wanna pay for mercing anything cause theyre mercs themselves and id have no sympathy for how the seever would end up. Theyd just move their disease to another server tho. All those that are forced to pay for stuff on Asura shouls band together and move to another server where people actually do stuff together

Im asking the same for a long time now. He doesnt use addons so he needs to catch all information from chat, but his chat has almost no filters and has terrible resolution/number of lines, so its basicaly unreadable. So he is basicaly just guess what tp move he will get hit by for example, which strips this game from any tactical approach, which is weird for a person who doesnt use addons, because he I believe wants to experience the game's mechanic and react on them by himself. Except its impossible when you cant see anything im chat log.
Background: 1920 x 1080, Overlay: 1920 x 1080, Menus: 720 x 480. The reason for this is I prefer the menus at a larger size. And I do understand some people don't like this view but it works for me since I play on a couch using a TV so I prefer larger menus. I did just get a larger TV so I might try out smaller menus with a dual window setup. The Dynamis D footage is my computer before my recent graphics card upgrade. I have not had a chance to go record Dynamis D since then.

A lot of Valefor heroes on here ^^ -Ambria
Omfg I'm on YT. Hell yeah!
Any chance you could make a monster rearing video?
"Mercs" are only a thing on Asura, thank god. I actually wasn't even aware it was a thing, until a coworker of mine that also plays FFXI mentioned something about it. He plays on Asura, I don't, and I had never even heard of it before. It seems to me that the lowest of the low players have all moved to Asura lol, obviously not everyone, but it looks like every other server doesn't have a problem with mercs. I'll never move to Asura now after finding out about it.
On a side note, nice video! I learned about a couple things I can do, for example the accolades.
We have a merc that moved from Asura to Shiva and he’s constantly shouting 500 JP for 15 mil........And no one taking him up on the offer!
Lol spamming bahamut fight is not only extremely difficult to do but damn, if you want to burn time, atleast cloth is expensive
How many plutons, boulders, and beitsu do you typically get from unity nm coffers?
10-15
@@cloudchiefarcade And i take it it's random as well? Like there isn't a unity NM that only drops plutons
@@AllThingsLeague Correct, all unity nms have a chance of dropping any of the three types
Can bst still do stuff that other jobs cant? (Like solo certain things)
I needed a how to make gil back in 2004...
How goes the technical difficulties, Cloudchief?
It is a work in progress. But it is going well.
My better half would like a guide on emperyean weapons. They are working on Twashtar. Is that a possibility for a video?
Cloud Chief, can you make a video about what to do with all the items we get lol. Do we just vendor them>?
Everything has a use. If you don't have a use for it, just vendor it. Super easy.
BLoody hell, this game is still up????
You forgot Crafting ^_^
I should have mentioned in the video, crafting is a good money maker. However, it requires quite a bit of time and gil investment beforehand. It is a good long term gil maker but not great for someone trying to make gil in the shorter term.
I have cooking and fishing mastered. Neither of them make any decent money. I put so much effort in to getting ebisu+1 and lu shangs+1
Still playing ffxi cloud?
Don't make Almace if it is for Blu, Tiz is just better.
@Charzey Indeed, make the main hand first though. Wish I had made Tiz instead.
Co-signing this comment. Tizona's MP recovery is the bread and butter for keeping up BLU's ability to offer support/defend spamming White Wind and Occultation, especially when all your spells cost 10-20% of your MP pool and DPS wise it's barely behind Almace. Outside of that, this guide is absolutely solid.
do BOTH.
I made the mistake of using CC and please write a script dude
{gil} {do you need it?}

Do you play on a potato?
Classic Mode!
He meant "Merching" right?
Mercing as in being a mercenary get me this drop or clear for X amount of gil type thing
FFXI worth it in 2020?
Currently on asura and want to return. Any server suggestions?
Odin
Anywhere except Asura, Odin is a solid choice though
Yeah i concur i returned and went to asura. Its the most populated but that doesnt necessarily equate to meaning good. In fact Asura has loads of problems imo and ive neve loathed the game so much. So much so ive quit again. Here are the main two reasons:
Mercs
Bots
Basically its just elitists asking for riduculous money for clears or levelling.
I am defo ready to move to a server where people actually play together and im not fighting with bots and mercs everywhere i go
Obviously this is for high level play.
Chief come to horizon server.
i love how this guy just assumes that everyone is level 99 and has all their endgame crap unlocked and have no need to horde sparks.
Decent Amount of Money.
there are still a lot of players playing FFXI ?
Yes, there are still a lot of FFXI players. The distribution of players across servers is not even though. On my server, Asura there are almost always over 2000 people online (many more during peak NA times). However, on many server there might only be 500-1000.
aman trove, ive never made it past two chest before rape
A shame this game still charges a sub.
After the 75 LV cap break it lost much of its magic for me.
o.o that FPS lol.
I tried to get into FFXI as a new player, but i couldn't even level past the wall of bots walling me off from quest mob kills. A shame really, the game was great. But there are claim-bots everywhere, so be warned.
@Charzey Idk what that is supposed to mean.

Wtf is merking?
Merc - Short for Mercenary. Selling content to other players. They sell job points, armor drops, content clears etc. It is fairly common on Asura unfortunately.
@@cloudchiefarcade darwinning RMT...except....Real Time Trading
@@cloudchiefarcade Replace "fairly common" with "nearly ubiquitous" and you get an idea of what it's like to be on Asura.

2019 and you still play in 640x480.
God all you UA-cam FFXI'ers play in such low resolution. Is this 800x600? What is this, 2003?
Hoo that guy at 12:00 needs a better computer. Nothing like good ol' 5 FPS.
@@cloudchiefarcade Ohhh, right, bigger menus for playing farther back. Makes sense. I probably should play with larger menus. Then I might actually be able to read when Kei's about to slice me in half with Dancing Fullers.
If you wear glasses or contacts you will be able to read small menus and text from anywhere in your room. I know cause i wear them

FFXI is garbage in 2019. I play on a private 75 era server before they destroyed the balance of the game.
I disagree this game is still better than some of the other MMOS out there, even though it's broken it's still good. Won't find a MMO like this. It's a rare gem.
THe game isn't garbage, you just don't like it. That's fine - that's your opinion, you don't have to like it. The thing is, noone fucking cares what you think, or gives a shit about how you play on a 75 server, or what you think of balance. So, offity fuck, and carry on being a loner. We will continue to play on a non-dead, non-buggy, well balanced version. Pissant.
