10/10 restoration sir. Dremel really should up their game. UA-cam is a store front for them, rattling bearings and difficult speed controls shouldn't be standard equipment on Dremel products.
Great job! I've got one waiting for me to restore it. I bought a hood for it, but it does have the original hood on it. Sadly, it's stuck shut, and somebody tried prying it open with something that bent the hood. So, it has to go. That Spectraflame Red you used looks great. Mine is that Spectraflame goldish-yellow (the actual name escapes me at the moment), but I may change it
I think this may be one of the first red lines I've seen that actually show depth in the paint. It may be the more natural lighting. I've seen guys use the candy paints but from my view it never looks all that impressive. Anyways great job as always!
tips from me, I managed to remove the redline tires by using a curved center nail clipper instead of buying the tool because it is too expensive for postage if I only bought only 1 personal item
I think the paint looks great, and overall you did a really nice job... But I'd prefer it with original wheels. You could find some decent ones on ebay, and it would look more like it did in '68. That would be an easy enough fix, though. You did the hard part. :-)
Hey, you work with any Hot Wheels, right? Because I have a 67 Camaro with a broken hood but in my city don't have any people that restore HW cars xD. Oh and your work with restoration and customization with HW cars is excellent. :)
I'm a bit late to the thread, but can I ask what your acid solution is when you soak your base ? Is it diluted muriatic acid or some other concoction ? Car looks great, by the way 😎👍
I have a question. You've probably been asked before, but I couldn't find any reference to it. What exactly kind of metal are hot wheels made of? I can tell it's not steel cause there's no rust but it does corrode.
Did the reproduction hood snap on easily? I have a Corvette I need to restore and it needs a hood. The pins are present still. Also, what volts and amps do you plate? That car came out beautifully!
Fun fact: Hot Wheels came out with the Corvette casting before the actual life sized version hit the streets. This made GM mad and they threatened Harry Bentley Bradley who designed the sweet sixteen.
I know you probably mean threatened him with legal action, but I can't shake the idea of GM sending a couple of big lads around like "Nice design studio you got here... be a shame if anything was ta... _happen_ to it."
He used to work at GM as a designer but went to Mattel for designing Hot Wheels. The design team wanted to make the new Corvette Stingray but no drawings were released to the public yet. The design team sent a written request but was turned down. Harry Bradley remembered the Styling Center always had a door unlocked for easy access at the cafeteria. He made arrangements with a old friend at the center and within a few days took a trip to Detroit and came back with plans. Mattel then released the Corvette later on. Harry was severely rebuked and threatened by GM. This information is from Tomart’s Price Guide to Hot Wheels, the Complete Revised 6th Edition.
Those style axles are a pain in the butt when coming to restoring them. They are so bent and sometimes when I try to bend them back the other end of the axle turns. These styles came around 1969 into 1970. After that they did those plastic suspension bars in 1970-1972.
Hey Mr.Thangs🙂 That red looks great in my opinion! Why did you apologize for not being a dentist, are you often asked to do dental work?...haha😉 Hope all is well with you and yours. Stay safe😁
I'm aware a tailpipe is broken, I forgot to mention it in the video.
Awesome job. Paint turned out amazing.
You are really good at this. Like the 1911 pad!
Really nice restoration. That red looks great. Nice Corvette Stingray 👍
The second I saw the thumbnail I literally said aloud “Oooo yes please”
Nice resto, great idea to repair the hood pin
Great restoration, I think they look better with the small front tires, but I appreciate you keeping it original 👍
Awesome resto man!
Wow! Spectacular job! Definitely looks better than when it came out of the blister pack!
New subscriber Eddie from simple kustoms!!! Great tooling I did a couple of 1969 !! For a client
I like the small wheels up front as well. Great result!
Nice work, looks great
Beautiful resto, I like using the rivets myself. Great videos!
Another great job done
Very nice. I'm gonna have to set aside some budget for those tools like the sanding pads and vise. Awesome work!
Looks really good

Stunning restoration on the Custom Corvette. 🍻

This was a great i wake up and find a new video
USA made redlines had fixed wire axles like the one you restored, the Hong Kong versions were removable 👍
Good to know!
The Hong Kong cars have a blue tinted windshield, do they not?
@@Tim-57 Yes, Hong Kong made cars had blue tinted windshields.

Alright, I remembered something🙂
Great work, man! The paint finish is very smooth!
It looks like your work mat there is a firearm cleaning mat - it looks similar to the one I got from Springfield Armory for my XD 9 Service.
Corvette Stingray: Like if you're a Rush Hour 3 movie fan
What a fantastic improvement, looks the part. Thanks for the video.
Turned out nice
Looks amazing I agree that small up front would look better but this was a restoration.

Badass... wait till You see the Hot Wheels Gaslands Corvette build I'm boing once it's done :)
it looks great
Great vid! Do you know where I can find a hood for the ‘69 Mercedes Redline?
Looks amazing!
Thank you!

really nice
That situation with the axle wire is definitely something I've never seen on a Redline.
Great video nice job well done. Do you take orders? Looking to get some made. I make custom nascars but done a lot different lol.
Jasco is amazing. I used to use that in spray can form.

What exactly kind of metal are hot wheels made of? I can tell it's not steel cause there's no rust but it does corrode.
The metal is a casting alloy called zamak, which is primarily made from zinc and alloyed with aluminium and smaller amounts of magnesium and copper.
@@DT99race thanks for the info. Luv ya bye
Good video
Thanks!
I'm restoring the same year/model, and the axles on the one I am restoring are exactly the same.
Most of if not all USA made redlines from 68-69 have that axle setup ,the hon Kong cars have the removable axles
Ahh. Never knew!
@@WheelsNThangs awsome job by the way 👍
It is probably the best combination for a c3 corvette red paint with white interior
Agreed!
I have started using that same method of grinding the post heads off👍

Older than my dad
PS: the axles are call crimped axles. Hotwheels did it to save on costs probably.
You should restore a 1970’s Charger!

Nice
But.... why would SHE say that?
That's what HE said.
C'mon, man!
For some reason, it always tickles me that they make diecast metal toy Corvettes and the actual car body itself is made of plastic. :)
