    I didn't know the tonneau cover was a separate piece, I thought it was part of the casting. Great job, the purple looks beautiful.

    I wish I'd seen this video before I renovated mine, but mine was in worse shape, ie missing a wheel, no bed cover, no glass. I swapped the wheels for some rubber ones and I drilled the base to fit a new axle, I have left the metal bare and I am happy with results, although at the time I did not know of the wheel removal tool. A great video and approach, your voice is steady and calming, you dont talk down to your watchers and give of your experience and knowledge freely. Thanks.

    Beautiful job! The fleet side is based on Harry Bradley's 1964 El Camino, and is the only one that I know of. I bought two of the RE issues in the lime gold color and one of them I removed the orange ramp. I would also like to say that because of you and your videos, I was inspired to build a 1964 El Camino using one hot wheels 1964 chevelle, one johnny lightning 1964 chevelle convertible, and one johnny lightning 1965 El Camino. A johnny lightning 1969 mustang was used as a donor for the wheels. All in all it came out pretty good. Again thank you for the work that you do and the inspiration to take on such a project

    Harry Bradley customized his personal ElCamino, and then applied those custom touches to the Custom Fleetside; which, as the name implies, is a C-1500 C10 full size truck.

    Beautiful! It turned out great, I really like the vinyl top. I haven't tried clear coating it, maybe with a matte clear.... idk if that's even possible (to protect it) nothing so annoying as to have it roll off at the end and get a ding! Sorry! (I've toyed with the thought of using a couple of lines of hot glue -- or something on the spinning base to try and mitigate that sort of thing) Cheers and happy day! :)

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  5 років тому

      Ha! Actually I can't even see the scuff while looking at it without the camera. I have it pretty zoomed in so it shows everything! Usually the cars stay on with the crinkle paint that's on the base but the stand has a slight bend in it now. I guess it's time for a new one :)

    Good research on the origins of the casting. I had thought the Fleetside name meant the casting was based on the 1 ton pickup of the Fleetside or C10 series models. The more beaten up the casting, the greater the wow factor when the restoration is revealed.

    Because I've never used RLShop Magic Black, do you use the hardener with it? A suggestion for your tonneau cover, super thin (blister pack/vacuum formed) clear plastic trimmed and glued over it and painted with magic black or a mix of 25% satin/75% matte. IDK if that's too much work, but it's an idea.

    • @WheelsNThangs
      @WheelsNThangs  5 років тому

      No hardener with the Black Magic, according to the Redlineshop it won't mix. Great idea on the cover, I may have to break out the VF again!

      "and the Custom Fleetside, (based on his own customized 1968 Chevrolet C-10 Fleetside)" it is the pickup truck, according to the Wiki piece. Since the casting looks exactly like the pickup truck to me, save for the back window, I think the Wiki piece is correct.
