I used a G29 for 6 years before switching to a CSL DD. And yes, the DD is leaps and bounds better, but I was perfectly happy for the 6 years I was "stuck" using a G29. If all you can afford is a Logi or a used Logi or something, go ahead and get it, you'll still have a tremendous amount of fun with the wheel, and if you ever do upgrade it will make you appreciate your new hardware even more.
Reaching 6 years on my G920, and I've gotten an emotional attachment to it because it's what got me into sim racing. I'm hoping to receive my DD bundle later this year.
Realistic sized steering wheel or gtfo. Couldn't believe how tiny those non DD logitechs were, felt like a cheap leather wrapped kids toy. I'd rather just go for not garbage from the start.
My son asked for a racing setup, so I'm getting him the G29 second hand. It's so common that people use these things 10 times and then get bored. Make sure you are an enthusiast before you invest heavily into something. I really like my quest 2 and was considering a quest 3, but I've decided against it because I rarely have time to play the quest 2. Don't let perfect be the enemy of the good.
Still on the G27, but i think its time for an upgrade, was going to get a cheap clubsport v2.5, but its belt driven so i backed out, time for a CSL DD.
For me sadly the g29 is pretty much the only entry level option As neither Moza, Thrustmasters or Fanatec are sold officially here and importing any of them would double their price in taxes thanks to Brazilian ridiculous import taxes Sometimes it sucks to be a Brazilian…
No contest, csl dd kills the G29 if you get the boost pack. It is not convincing at first because the settings are harder to set. But the change to direct drive just can’t be explained until you make the jump
truth is real price difference for G923 vs CSL DD is $295 vs $520 for a wheel and 3 pedal setup since you need to add the clutch upgrade for the DD to the price. I got the g923 + force shifter + Playseat Challenge for a total of $555 so also considering an entire sim chair setup for the $550 ish budget is a good deal. Having a sim chair with racing position is going to provide an experience superior to just a better force feedback on a desk chair if you are tight on budget so its something to consider. I might upgrade to the CSL DD down the line once i build a proper PC to get best out of it but for xbox racing I think G923 is pretty great and compact with my sim chair and shifter included.
I ordered the Fanatec this morning for $399, comes out to $436 with shipping through UPS. Also you have to be able to sign for it, or go pick it up at a given local location.
100% agree with you and your closing statement's. Sadly, i still use a PlayStation, and the extra money, as i would go loadcell if upgrading, leaves little change out of 1k. As i play for fun and do not have that much spare time, the G29, is fine for me.
Just get stand alone loadcell pedals. I think the force feedback got better but it does not do anything for my driving. Biggest upgrade going fanatec was getting good pedals for me.
you forgot: the noice the wheels make + durability. Even the fanatec pedals are on magnetic mecanism, so there is almost nothing to broke. while on logitech they can start do some strange thing while accelerating/braking
I had a logitech wheel and upgraded to the mclaren gt3 bundle from fanatec. There is a big price difference here. The G29 is $200 here while I paid $489 inc shipping for the gt3 bundle
I used a non force feedback wheel for a year and just upgraded to a g29 about 5 months ago and the difference is tremendous cant imagine how it feels to upgrade to a DD wheel
If your on a budget, there are plenty of Logitechs on the second hand market. It's really hard to recommend a new one when there's the CSL DD, Moza R5, and Cammus C5 for only a little more.
The thing that makes G29 a killer beginner wheel, is that second hand, they are dirt cheap for something that can get you into sim racing. Yes DD is better, but just figure out if you even enjoy sim racing enough to invest in DD. And then sell the G29 for someone else to enjoy, and get into sim racing.
The G29 is a great wheel to start with. It's not very expensive and works really well. I had mine for 6 years and gave it to my son last year. He's still using it. I replaced it with a Logitech G Pro. I have not had any issues with Logitech over the years . Driving Force Pro/G25/G27/G29. I wish DD was available back then.:) I don't expect any now.
When did you get it? I ordered a bunch of things including the csl dd around 2 months ago and there are no signs of it, so I was wondering if you ever received it
I strongly believe all non DD entry level offerings are bait and a waste of money at this point, the difference is way to massive and the prices for lower end products, not so much. There is only 1 purpose to your first sim racing wheel, and it's to figure out if you like sim racing enough to spend time on it and how much you value that time. You don't need anything more than a $50 second hand 10 year old logitech g27 to figure that out.
It is very simple: get a g29/g920, used. Try the ”hobby” out. If you cant get into the hobby with a wheel like that, it wasnt for you. Upgrade later. You will likely get all your money back when you sell it.
Thanka for the video! I purchased the csl dd r2r bundle for £350! Bargain for my budget and didnt even realised they existed. Glad i didnt go for logitech as the noise they make is a big deal breaker for me
I would make the jump in a heartbeat if the only price difference was the base. But it's not, I'd need to get an actual wheel as well, or possibly two of them because I also do rally sometimes, and also load cell pedals. Not even to mention I have no idea if my desk will take the abuse. It's like a 3/4 inch thick desk from Ikea and it's handling the G29 completely fine but I have no idea about an 8 Nm DD wheel. I'm considering only going for the load cell pedals at first but I'm so hungry to experience what DD is like...
You could sell your g29 on fg marketplace for 200-100$ depending on condition than buy fanatics ready to race bundle that contains a 5nm DD wheel which is double the fg as the g29 and more refined aswell, you can also buy the 8nm version for another 100, both come with pedals and a wheel, it’s what I did.
Unfortunately, Micro Center doesn't sell a thing related to Fanatec. Because they are direct to consumer. So you are forced to pay their shipping. Listen up, Fanatec, get off your pedestal. Start out by having only select store direct businesses you want to work with.. and damn are we ever going to hear about the so called qr2?? Or is that more Fanatec smoke we have to take?? Other contenders are easily stepping on Fanatec grounds!
I play on a g29 on ps5. It’s great for gt7 and ok for Assetto Corsa but it absolutely sucks for Assetto Corsa Competizione. I wonder if the dd pro would bring in a little more car control. I don’t really care if I get any faster as I can set the AI to my performance but I just want the car to feel more realistic in my hands. Does anyone know this answer?
The only way for you to buy the Logitech is if Fanatec is not available in your country. Or if its more expensive than orig MSRP thwrefore making the purchase unjustified. But then again you got other better options like thrustmaster, moza or cammus But under normal circumstances, you shouldn't buy the Logitech cause you're like comparing a turd from a chocolate. Looks similar at a glance but totally different in reality A fairer comparison would be a T300, Thrustmaster TS-XW, or the old CSL elite 2.5 wheelbase than the logitech
While i love my Ferrari alcantara T300 and it has served me really well. I also have the loadcell pedals i bought later. And yeah it works really really well. However In the current market that wheel is just obsolete. The CSL DD is too close in price. has better FB and is part of an more impressive eco system. So even though i am an very happy TM customer. I cannot recommend my purchase anymore. And that is awesome. Because that is the power of proper competition. What we unfortunately fail to see in so many aspects of our lives.
@@1barnet1 sadly fanatec is not a viable option from where I lived cause it's double the price compared to the moza or cammus counterpart who stayed mostly close to the MSRP that's been implemented from other regions.

The csl dd is playstation compatible, but you have to order the new V2 hub + wheel and will end up at a price of 480€, but I think its still more worth due to the V2 HUB beeing a Modular wheel.
I dont know which one you should get, but I know you need to sub to the channel

Great video. Had a g27 for years. Finally upgraded to a DD in 2022. Huge difference. I still am surprised at the difference almost a year later.
yeah its a huge difference. But then again the G29 is far smoother than the G27
