VERY impressive little project! I do have to make one observation though. I don't have a miter saw, but I do have a radial arm saw that could work perfectly doing the notches on the bottom of the legs. Having seen this video, it definitely gives me some inspiration to try it.
But seriously, nice work and thanks for keeping it simple (but elegant). Took me thirty years to realize it’s best to build a plant box around a premade plastic one
Those turned out great Jon! Thanks for sharing how to make the decorative legs. The planters look really nice but I think the legs make all the difference in how beautiful they are!
If it were an issue, when fully dry just dab each one with some silicone or better yet mix up some epoxy and fill them that way. Theoretically they could be an issue long term because they act like a tiny channel for water to infiltrate. Easy to solve nonetheless.
Hi Jon, great looking planters. Bought my plans and now curious where to get Red Grandis from? I see your on the island and I'm in the Okanagan, perhaps you could point me in the right direction?
Awesome build and video Jon. I'm just curious; do your kids have more interest in woodworking? I often hear about parents trying to get their children involved in Woodworking. Good for Walter to assemble the table! DD
Always so clean… thank you for the great great oroject!!! 🙏🙏 And you Sir- are the grand freakin champion of pencil lines and glue beads!!! 👊👊👊 take care out there !!
Beautiful, thought the wife was going to love them, but she regulated them to the sidewalk for moringa shrubs and wants a tall tapered look for the porch. Pointed me to junk big box cedar fencing pickets nailed together on Pinterest. Talk about picking a Yugo over a Mustang, meh. Maybe math combined with your design and tapered legs instead? Breaks out tape measure and pencil. P.S. Your videos might just be medicinal, I have to track my blood pressure for the Doc, and I find watching one of your videos first drops mine a solid five points :)
Thanks John, that’s awesome! … i’m actually planning another planter build for next month… It’s going to be about 30 inches tall and have tapered legs about 12 inches wide and 35 inches long so more of a rectangle.
Great video Jon, I'm looking forward to building this project soon. I'm from north Texas and I've been shopping around trying to find the wood you used (Red Grandis) and am not having any luck. Is there another name for that type of wood. Once again, thanks for the videos and I always look forward to your videos.
Thanks! I’m not sure but I know April often uses Cedar for outdoor projects… maybe Cedar is less expensive In Texas then it is here in NJ and it’s also a good wood for a planter.
I gotta say I've never had success seating pocket screws with an impact driver. Everyone does it but I always strip the screws. Clearly it's just me LOL
Too fancy to be practical for most. One person's take. Sure some people will like this. So, for them. Some feedback if you choose to take it that way. Cheers!
It's the attention to detail that makes you one of the best woodworkers on UA-cam. Great build and a very clean look.
You're right Indy. Small details, most of times make the diference.
They look beautiful, Jon. Thanks for taking the time to make them & share the process with us.
You're work has such a careful, thoughtful feel to it. This is the most elegant 'planter build' I have seen on UA-cam and I have seen many.
Thank you!
Bought the plans for these and I'm looking forward to making a set.
The way you make these straight lines is mesmerising 🤩
Thank You Jon
Love the way u cut the tops and bottoms of the legs. Very cool!
Thanks Joe!
The leg detail is slick!👍👍👍👍
Very cool. Thanks Jon.
Beautiful work.
I really like the way you made the legs. Thanks. You've given me some ideas.
We enjoy seeing your work and we are happy to see and support our channel ...
💙
Absolutely beautiful and elegant piece. Thank you for sharing !!!!
Thank you!
Those are really beautiful. Finished the video this morning. Just beautiful.
Thanks!
@@JonPetersArtHome you’re welcome
These are gorgeous, Jon. I’m building my own house now and this is some nice inspiration for when we eventually get to landscaping!
Amazing box!
A lot of learning for me in a 'simple' build video😇.

Nice, clean looking project. I really enjoy the precision you always use in your builds! Thank you! 👍
Nice looking pieces.
Brilliant work!

Really nice planters
they look like expensive planters but so simple to make great job
As always, another beautiful and well-planned project, Jon.
Nice simple project, Jon. Hadn't heard of this type of wood before!
Nice Build! I like the table saw trick with the designs on the legs.
Nice planters, Jon.
Bill

@@JonPetersArtHome Your very welcome Jon! Have a wonderful week!😎
Better looking than most IKEA interior furniture!
Spectacular looking planter boxes Jon! I didn't see the leg making tutorial in my subscription feed, but I love the look of that design.
Thanks! Yeah I think a lot of subscribers stopped getting notifications 🤷♂️ .
Well done once again Jon. 👍
Thanks David
These planter boxes are gorgeous!! Fantastic build, Jon!
Thanks! I’m really liking the Teak oil finish 👍👍
No one else talking about the complete lack of saw dust! It’s like magic.
But seriously, nice work and thanks for keeping it simple (but elegant). Took me thirty years to realize it’s best to build a plant box around a premade plastic one
Thanks, yea worked pretty good with the platers I made last year… also going to add another coat of oil at the end of the season
Have been waiting for this video. Love the look of these.
Thanks Nail
First the Wild Wild West, now this?!? Can’t wait till the end where the planter battles a giant spider.
Kevin Kline ?
You don’t see timber ripped on the mitre saw often, that’s a cool techno
Great video
Good job
lovely project :)

I have to agree, the leg/foot detail is what sets these apart. Nice!
Excellent video!!
Thanks Cindy
Very nice
These look great, Jon~! I'll be picking up this plan to add to my JP collection~! 😉
Awesome Thanks Andrew!
Got your plans Jon. Just what my wife ordered:-) Red Grandis... hmmm...
That’s awesome!
Beautiful planter Jon & I really like how you used that plastic insert! Yet another one of your projects on my to do list! 👍👍😉😉
Thanks Steve!
👏👏👏👏 very good
awesome
These came out awesome Jon!! Looking forward to seeing what you guys put in them. Hoping all is well, Dirty Jersey oat!!
Thanks Brother and have a Happy Easter!
Beautiful planters. Question... Are you at all worried about water pooling in the downard facing pocket holes?
Thanks, no not really but I’ll post an update at the end of the season.
If it were an issue, when fully dry just dab each one with some silicone or better yet mix up some epoxy and fill them that way. Theoretically they could be an issue long term because they act like a tiny channel for water to infiltrate. Easy to solve nonetheless.
Really beautiful work, Jon! They look great! 😃
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! Really appreciate it 👍
Super build. Too bad there are (so many) ugly pocket screws. Love your detailed explanations.
Thanks, you could also build with dominos

When making the first bevel cuts on the legs you stated the height of the blade is 1/4”. Is that at 45° or 90° before setting the angle?
Yes, it’s best to make the cuts on a test piece first and check the height of the blade for both cuts.
Beautiful, thought the wife was going to love them, but she regulated them to the sidewalk for moringa shrubs and wants a tall tapered look for the porch. Pointed me to junk big box cedar fencing pickets nailed together on Pinterest.

Been looking for this one, did I miss it?@@JonPetersArtHome
@@JonPetersArtHome Did you end up producing this one?
Jon, where do you source the exotic lumber species you frequently use?
Hi Kevin, Mounteath lumber here in NJ
Thanks jon!

You might try Leroy Jordan Lumber Company in Dallas.

Love them, awesome video. Do you have a link for the plastic that you screwed under the legs?
Thanks, no I just picked them up at my local hardware store.
Ok, I'll check my locals here. Thank you Jon.
Would pine work for this if painted with exterior white paint by Rustoleum? Any reason for not giving this option?
Sure that will be fine… I do take them in and Store them in the garage for Winter
Jon I don't see the free plans
durring the whole video the only thing was went thru my mind was how the hell he drew this line by hand
😂👍 takes a little practice but anyone can do it.
Looks great! Do you have plans in metric?
Thanks! Sorry no… that’s something I hope to add in the future.
@@JonPetersArtHome looking forward to it man 👍
That's not a Planter box that's a planter home

Wasn’t Red Grandis that Chris Christie aide who got arrested in that concrete supply kickback scheme a few years ago?
Ha ha 😂😬🤷♂️ I don’t know but could be.

I miss carpenters, why is it that joinery has been replaced by pocket screws?
I would love to build this and sell but no one wants to buy these planters for a reasonable price they want it at Walmart prices
