Everyone talks about Tyson and Macho Man, but Sandman was the toughest to learn. It took me about a week to get him down and finally beat him. He should have been AFTER Macho.
Dom LS1 I’m not saying he’s hard. He is very easy and I can beat him in the first round nearly every time. I was just saying that macho man is even easier to me.
Hell yeah! Tougher than Tyson and Macho Man! First time I got to him I'm like, "I'm dead!" Imagine being about ten years old and seeing that dude. Took me over a week to master him.
Mr. Sandman is very hard to beat,I can definitely beat him,but to beat him in the first round without getting touched by his punches especially his deadly uppercut is truly impressive
+blind poet38 Another way for people to tell if he will throw the uppercuts is when he blocks. After the initial rolling punches he will dodge ever high punch, the moment he blocks you know he is going to use the special punches.
They always got/get me too. The best I can do against Mr. Sandman is knock him down twice. He's as far as I can get in this game but it's still my favorite game of all time.
***** What emulator are you using? I'm playing on Jnes 1.1 with an Xbox360 controller and am able to dodge them. It took me awhile but it seems like dodging left left left seems to be the best way.
What makes this game the hardest Punch-Out IMO is how brutal the circuits system is. Having this three-strikes-and-out system on top of the increasing number of opponents in each circuit can make the player really on edge, especially if they've just gotten to harder fights like these and have no idea what to expect. You could literally be on your last little shred of health, just waiting for the round to end so Doc can rub you all over, while in just a few more punches you'll have knocked down Sandman the third time in the round. Every single bit of energy and focus is put all into just dodging the fuck out of all his attacks and punching him enough and with the right timing, otherwise that's it, you'll have to start on Honda's rematch all over again. That dreamland express feels just around the corner... and all you can do is pray. Just watching this video gets me tense man, this fight is one of the best bits of game design and one of the best NES bosses I've ever seen. Having Macho Man right after him puts so much pressure on the championship fight, since if you lose enough times, you gotta go back and fight Sandman all over again. With Mike Tyson, yes he's hard, but at least if you lose to him you don't have to do 4 other fights in order to get back to him, which puts a lot less pressure on the fight, at least for me.
He just destroyed Sandman. Finally got me a NES, again. I actually held on to my Tyson's Punch Out cause I loved it so much, as a kid. I still rem when my mother bought it for me in 1988. To a min to get the rust off, but it all came rushing back. Totally forgot about the Sandman strategy. I rem how to beat him within a min of watching this clip. Thx for posting.
The hardest fighter in the game to me, very hard to dodge his 3 uppercuts u never knew when they would come. I hated facing him, but I beat this game 2 times, such memories.
I always thought mr sandman was harder than super macho man, and I always wondered how he managed to always be on top of sandman. And then punch out for the wii happened.
He does 11 jabs to be exact. Most of them are easy to time as you start to avoid after 3 bounces, but his 6th and 11th jabs are a little tougher to time.
Excellent work! It was easier than I thought. I will have to ko Tyson and Sandman on the first round! I never did because I knew lots of tricks, but not the waiting trick to make them lose more energy! Thanks a lot HexidecimalBeefTrogg!!! ;) I rated it to the top!!!
amazing game, and the new for wii is just as good as the first one !, one of my fav games of all times thank you next level for doing something for the fans, and not the casual crowd
This game got so much easier once I learned you can recover from dodging quicker if you direction pad back the opposite way of your dodge! Still was a tough one to beat
I noticed something really weird. At 0:18 the smaller boxer's clothing changed from white to green. What's up with that? There's nothing wrong with that though; I like the color green.
I can usually beat Sandman, but I can only seem to get the timing down on his special 1/3 times. I usually get hit by the first one and then dodge the next two. Is there a trick to knowing when he's gonna throw it? I usually wait til he stops moving his feet and hopefully react in time, but that seems to be a shite method based on how little I dodge the 1st one.
His gloves completely touch just before he swings. So, I learned from another video. I haven't fought him yet. I just beat Adam Sandler (Don F) for the second time. I went till the end of the 3rd, and I got the win.
Normally, Mr. Sandman flashes white and pauses for a split second before starting his rush. All I can guess is that the recording software or the compression made it so that this very brief tell isn't visible in the video.
@theboombody You can get stars off him in the third round if you delay the second or third stomach punch like I do in the video. It doesn't work for the first two rounds and most people usually beat him or get beaten by him by round 2.
To syxtinine: I know and I can't wait. I think Mr. Sandman is a close second behind Mike Tyson in difficulty for me. I've never had trouble with Super Macho Man, but Tyson with his one hit knockdown and Sandman with his tricky timing are the definition of HARD!
nice strategy. i am going to try this this is where i am stuck. after you throw the body, i see that you threw another quick to make him throw. that is effective because he usually hesitates
Wow! Only way I've seen it done is having half life to start and getting knocked down for a second dreamland express. That delayed belly punch must do extra damage, nice.
I don't know about the NES one, but for the Wii, if you punch him when he flashes red during that pause punch with his right hand (your left), you get a star.
There used to be a thing with that old man in the stands that he would shout and stand up and if you punched while he was doing that it would be an instant TKO
It gives him the chance for him to throw a upper cut left and than doge than do at goer punch it delay mr sandman punch by a second I think it could be he is showing off
Yeah, I am only throwing two punches. I throw a punch and delay just a bit before I throw in the second punch to give Mr. Sandman a little more damage for the second punch.
@HexidecimalBeefTrogg I was wondering, because you fight him the exact way I do, and just use up hearts by missing punches on purpose. I was hoping there'd be a quicker way, like I discovered with Soda Popinski by watching another youtube video. I imagine it would be pretty tough dragging the fight out to the third round. Unless your really, really good at this game, you want to put this fellow away fast.
Night-night! Also, is it just me, or is the move pattern of Mr. Sandman in the original Punch-Out!!, more like Bald Bull in the Wii version than himself?
Yeah, sometimes he does it early and late. If he does the three punches late, I time it perfectly (like on this video where he doesn't even freeze beforehand). But when he does it early, it catches me offguard and I usually end up getting hit once from them.
I don't get it. In other playthroughs during the dreamland express, he makes a brief pause and then does it. But here there is NO pause. Not even a frame. He just does it. Is it the video itself or is there something I'm missing?
0:08 The very second you see him spam those uppercuts you just instantly tell yourself “This guy’s gonna fuck me up.”
😂😂😂😂
Lmao! 💪😡 me👉😵😴
💪💪💪💪
Mac: welp i am dead
Everyone talks about Tyson and Macho Man, but Sandman was the toughest to learn. It took me about a week to get him down and finally beat him. He should have been AFTER Macho.

I know the pain
For me it was sandman and king hippo Mr. Sandman one of my favorites also had the best intro
Honestly, macho man to me is extremely easy. I have a tougher time with bald bull.
Dom LS1 I’m not saying he’s hard. He is very easy and I can beat him in the first round nearly every time. I was just saying that macho man is even easier to me.
This guy scared the crap out of me when I first saw him do that little demo of uppercuts after the bell! 0:07
He's the very embodiment of intimidation.
His psychotic eyes will SCARE me for life
Hell yeah! Tougher than Tyson and Macho Man! First time I got to him I'm like, "I'm dead!" Imagine being about ten years old and seeing that dude. Took me over a week to master him.
Back when you were a kid in 1987
Yeah I’m 13 years old and he’s still scary also bald Bull was pretty scary as well
I considered myself an old vet of Punch-out and far beyond learning new tricks of the trade, but I definitely learned something from this guy.
Mr. Sandman is very hard to beat,I can definitely beat him,but to beat him in the first round without getting touched by his punches especially his deadly uppercut is truly impressive
Mr.Sandman: Welcome to Dreamland baby!!!
Mac: *Knocks Sandman out in round 1*
He put Mr. Sandman to sleep!! 💤💤💤
Those delayed punches are one of the few reasons why I cant beat him DX
+Quilava just watch his head. The moment his head stops moving he will throw a punch..
+blind poet38 Another way for people to tell if he will throw the uppercuts is when he blocks. After the initial rolling punches he will dodge ever high punch, the moment he blocks you know he is going to use the special punches.
Quilava Hit Him With 2 Hands
delayed punches or waiting for a punch can't react fast enough if I could I would probably be able to beat this game!
They always got/get me too. The best I can do against Mr. Sandman is knock him down twice. He's as far as I can get in this game but it's still my favorite game of all time.
that was Perfect. he's the only one other then Tyson I couldn't beat in the 1st round
sportstalk28 same
Ugh, those darn uppercuts ALWAYS get me!!! 😡
***** What emulator are you using? I'm playing on Jnes 1.1 with an Xbox360 controller and am able to dodge them. It took me awhile but it seems like dodging left left left seems to be the best way.
+Kevin Synan I use the old school NES. Remember, watch Sandman's head. The moment his head stops moving, he will throw the uppercuts.
Chris Nata I'm playing this on Wii U VC
Input lag makes this even harder
Ragnar Ahlman tell me about it
How the F*CK am i supposed to dodge those uppercuts.
+SnappyK9 watch his head. The moment his head stops moving he will throw the dreamland express.
I still cant dodge them uppercuts!! I'm like 0-103 against this dude!! I beat everyone else!
Ikr
I can't react fast enough
Don't feel bad. I could never do it. Mr. Sandman was my Mike Tyson lol. The last guy in the game I could get to.

Amazing how it comes back isn’t it

Joe Frazier was a legend. RIP
pretty darn good. he gets me almost every time with his surprise punch
OMG BLESS YOUR SOUL. I only beat him in the 3rd round but this video helped a lot!!! Thank you!
I always thought mr sandman was harder than super macho man, and I always wondered how he managed to always be on top of sandman. And then punch out for the wii happened.

Nice! Just what I was lookin for, thanks!😉👍
Masterful
best playing ive ever seen!
Wow! you made that look easy. Bravo!!
Could you imagine the amount of whoop-ass you gotta take to pull that off? Sandman was no joke.
flawless!
amazing game, and the new for wii is just as good as the first one !, one of my fav games of all times
thank you next level for doing something for the fans, and not the casual crowd
Dreamland!!!
Well done!!
Great video
Great match!
Thanks dude!I was trying to do it the hard way.hope tysons next like the old days
you gotta love those 8-bit sounds
Incredible... o_O
Timeless!
forgot to add to that reply, nice vid and good stragity. i'll give that one a shot next time i play
Anybody feel like when you get the final countdown on Sandman is one of the most epic moments in your gaming history?
Beat him in round one second attempt after watching this. Thanks dude
Very Nice vid!! Just got to Mr. Sandman today hopefully i can use ure tacs to beat him!!
nice job. that SOB always stopped me dead in my tracks.
Sob?
Sandman was scary playing with when I was a child!
Excellent video, is there any reason you are delaying the 3rd body punch?
well done sir
Sandman was a fucking animal. Tough rhythm. This game was so far behind its time. Great memories.
Finally! Someone else who uses the delayed hook strategy.
thanks for posting this video , you have no idea!!!
Great fight man.. didn't get touched one time... that's bad ass. I'm working on him now, i forgot you can punch in the stomach.. wish me luck..
----FLAWLESS VICTORY----

Some of his moves remind me of bald bull's moves
They re-used the body types for several of the characters. So there should be some similarities.
@@TheJollyMisanthrope like don looks like Joe
Great tiger and von kaiser both give stars in there uppercuts
Also popinski and macho are the same, as well as honda and tyson / mr dream
Mr. Sandman, bring me a dream.

His gloves completely touch just before he swings. So, I learned from another video. I haven't fought him yet. I just beat Adam Sandler (Don F) for the second time. I went till the end of the 3rd, and I got the win.
I didn’t even realize this was the guy who made phreds cool punch out
Mr. Sandman was that guy also had one of the best intros
A dream match setup would be Mr Sandman versus Von Kaiser. Os dang that would draw down the house
i got to sandman. after a minute. i shed bloody tears

Amazing vid! On a side note, Sandman's face when he does that twirly-fist punch is priceless. He's all like "Take that, bitch!" XD
bad ass video
Notice that in the introduction of the fight when Mr Sandman show's you his upercut's he dose four. But when he fight's you he only dose three.
At least he didn't tell you that the secret last character was Donkey Kong
Why the delay with the body punches?
It gives him the chance for him to throw a upper cut left and than doge than do at goer punch it delay mr sandman punch by a second I think it could be he is showing off
Tyson, Sandman & Bald Bull 2 are ridiculous.
vary nice
Yeah, I am only throwing two punches. I throw a punch and delay just a bit before I throw in the second punch to give Mr. Sandman a little more damage for the second punch.
Hey well done! I never defeated to Mr. Sandman
good video
That dude gave me such pains. It was a great night when I beat him finally. Much tougher than Bald Bull.
@rodneystiffington

@HexidecimalBeefTrogg I was wondering, because you fight him the exact way I do, and just use up hearts by missing punches on purpose. I was hoping there'd be a quicker way, like I discovered with Soda Popinski by watching another youtube video.

Why pausing after countering his hooks? Wouldn't it be faster if you hit him with all 3 punches?
sick
What’s the code to get to him?
actually its a technique called the delayed punch it does more damage than a regular punch at the end of your combo.
It took me like a thousand tries to beat Sandman, and when I finally did, I got lucky.
I took so long to beat this when I was a kid, I finally figured out to punch him in gut was his weakness.
oh, nvm i got confused(havent played this in a while) i thought you were doing that pattern when you were throwing the late punches at :50 to 1:10.
Is it just me or is Mr. Sandman's body the same as Baldbull's but with a different head?
Why do you delay the 3rd punch? It has to do something or you wouldnt do it.
Why are there dislikes? Dude fought practically a perfect fight, besides losing some hearts...haters...smh
Svaka ti dala
damn you made that look easy
Have to dodge to the left when he start throwing those uppercuts once I found that out no issues
I don't get it. In other playthroughs during the dreamland express, he makes a brief pause and then does it. But here there is NO pause. Not even a frame. He just does it. Is it the video itself or is there something I'm missing?
the times that i looks like you're only throwing 2 punches after he's stunned, are you really only throwing 2 or is that the viedo quality?
@hentipleasemalcolm:Although making mac transparent would really suck anyway. I prefer it like this.
lol i love his facial expressions. king hippo's too
Why do people do the little pause when they're punching him after a hook? Is that supposed to be more powerful or something?
OldSchoolBoi yes
